Cookie Posted November 26, 2018 Posted November 26, 2018 So yes then, Tomorrow I get through my Student Loan yeeeeh, and I want the tarot people on here to recommend me their favourite books on the cards. I intend to buy a few to keep me going through the long winter months. "78 Degrees" is one I'm definitely ordering at midnight tonight when the zeros will become a distant memory in my bank account. My interests are tarot & the kabbalah; Jung-ist influenced tarot; psychology and tarot; tarot magic & talisman; Golden Dawn influenced tarot book; and of course ye olde symbolism. But i'm open to anything, although bare in mind i'm pretty much a beginner so nothing too complex...although i did read the Book of Thoth, so i guess that sort of level is my yardstick. Indie, underground and partisan books welcomed. In fact i've learned more from sites like this than i have from any coffee table, mainstream tarot book! Many thanks
gregory Posted November 26, 2018 Posted November 26, 2018 Anything by Barbara Moore. Paul Huson: Mystical Origins of Tarot Cynthia Giles: The Tarot - Methods, Mastery and More (which has sometimes appeared with a different title, so I ended up with two. A friend was very pleased !) Mary Greer: 21 Ways to Read a Tarot Card and others. Benebell Wen: Holistic Tarot Duquette: Understanding Aleister Crowley's the Thoth Tarot Nancy Antenucci: Psychic Tarot And let's not forget: Lynda Cowles: The Tarot Playbook :D I could name more....

Yes, thank you gregory[/member] these are exactly the type of books i'm looking for. Just had a quick look at a few you recommended and the Holistic Tarot , the Psychic Tarot, and the Paul Huson look very good. And Duquette is a must. Just come across Moore's tarot shaman website too...this looks very interesting. many thanks for your help.
DanielJUK Posted November 26, 2018 Posted November 26, 2018 As well as Gregory's excellent list, I thought to add some psychology books, there isn't too many of them but some ideas... Benebell Wen: Holistic Tarot has a little bit of psychology in it I have read online (I keep meaning to buy it!) a classic of tarot psychology is Tarot and Psychology: Spectrums of Possibility by Dr Arthur Rosengarten. He is a Clinical Psychologist and it is very technical about psychology and each card and does explain Jung's Theory of Synchronicity, it's not the easiest read but a good reference book. I noticed on amazon there is a hardback version which is very pricey but there is a paperback which has a rainbow on the front, that is my version. I don't own these books but they look interesting on the topic.... Robert Wang has a trilogy of psychology + tarot books, they are - Tarot Psychology, (vol 1) The Jungian Tarot and its Archetypal Imagery (vol 2) and Perfect Tarot Divination (vol 3). Tarot and the Archetypal Journey: The Jungian Path from Darkness to Light is by by Sallie Nichols and with a foreword by Mary K. Greer. I am really interested in it but it's preorder only and out in May 2019! Mary Greer has also a lot of great Jung writings on her blog and across the net, she has written many articles about it. The Psycards is an oracle which use Jungian archetypes and a great oracle buy and has many books for it.
Raggydoll Posted November 26, 2018 Posted November 26, 2018 Cookie: I’m a fan of Benebell but I do not feel that Holistic tarot is a fair representation of who she is and the type of work she does at this moment in time. (She’s way more open about spirituality, divination and magic now, back then she tried to explain everything in a rational, scholarly way) There was a great thread about it over at AT back in the days and it brought up all of the things that I myself had issues with. You can take a look at it if you like to get a really good grip on both the pros and cons of this book: https://www.tarotforum.net/showthread.php?t=229099 (the discussion gets really interesting once Teheuti = Mary K Greer jumps in. If I remember correctly then Benebell herself also showed up to address all the criticism. Those were good times! ^-^ )
Guest Night Shade Posted November 26, 2018 Posted November 26, 2018 Modern tarot by Michelle Tea is good, with, as the title suggests, more modern interpretations. She also pairs a short spell or activity with each card. Tarot and Magick by Donald Michael Kraig is a good one too. I think it may be out of print, but you may be able to find a copy somewhere. For simple Tarot spells, 365 Tarot Spells by Sasha Graham and Tarot Spells by Janina Renee are my go-too books.

I got in tarot after it closed down, so I missed it. But AT is like the Woodstock of tarot! It is a most fascinating site, i will always go to the archives of AT if i want to read up on a card etc. Some of the discussions are real thought-provoking. And there's some real highbrow stuff on there, i was reading stuff the other night and I hadn't a clue what they were on about!! Some real knowledge on there! Real Evolution of tarot meanings which i hear so much about. I'm reading it now...yes very good discussion!

I loved being able to have access to her great mind like that! (I was a member for many years but I spent most of the time reading and lurking. I was very self conscious about my English back then, it took quite some time for me to work up the courage to start interacting. And when I discovered the auto-correct feature on my phone and PC it made things much easier :)) )
