Faye Posted November 30, 2018 Posted November 30, 2018 I’m new to Tarot Reading, but my road to reading has not been straightforward. I’m super practical, very sceptical, and not inclined to much that’s rather “alternative”... but I have also inherited my family’s kenning, and it’s been something I’ve kind of hidden from everyone because my immediate family don’t believe in that all. I got a pack of Tarot cards recently to help channel my kenning, and it’s helped. I’ve been getting really strong readings since I started, and they all make perfect sense. Like, my cards read me the riot act, harsh truths, but they’re honest - a lot like me, really, and I appreciate the advice. However, because of my sceptical side, there’s been the thought in the back of my mind that I’m just reading too much into everything (excuse the pun). My scepticism got completely squashed today though, and now I’m freaking out. :bugeyed: So.... I’ve been stressing over a bunch of stuff recently, trying to control one thousand bad situations at once, and just not coping. I thought I’d search for advice on how to cope with certain things, and went for a 3 card reading (first draw was what really led me here, middle is clarifying where I am, third is advice for the future. It’s my standard read for advice). As I started shuffling, the Chariot popped into my head and I thought “haha if I draw that positive at least I’ll have a handle on things.” A few seconds later, the Chariot fell out, facing upwards and inverted, and I just felt like  “obviously I’m trying to keep it all going, this is clearly my own stress reflected back at me, I must just be overreacting.” I ignored it as best I could, and put it back in the deck. Shuffled, washed, shuffled, clicked and cut my deck. Then drew my three cards. My centre card? Guess. Position? Guess that too. When I saw the inverted Chariot again it just all hit me and I knew I was being forced to read into that card. I mean, what are the odds, seriously?? In a 78 card deck, for it to be the same card you’re thinking of, twice, inverted both times??? It’s 0.004% likely, well beyond the rational coincidence! It freaked me out, even without the kenning that’s like :bugeyed: :bugeyed:  I’m just wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience and how you all dealt with the “oh sh** this is real, I better start listening” moment.
Saturn Celeste Posted November 30, 2018 Posted November 30, 2018 I have that happen when I do readings. I've had certain cards pop up for returning clients and using a different deck each time but have the same card pop up usually a few months later. That is really weird but the tarot is like that! Also, make sure you're shuffling your deck very thoroughly. To get a really good shuffle in make sure all your cards in your deck are upright, then deal out 4 stacks of cards. You'll have 2 left over so put one on the left stack and one on the right stack. Then take each stack and shuffle them together until you have the entire stack shuffled. This will ensure a full shuffle. If you have more than one deck, try using a different deck and see if the card still pops up. Then you really can get goosebumps! ^-^ And welcome to the forum Faye! Make sure you stop by our introductions section and let us all say hi to you! https://www.thetarotforum.com/introductions/
Faye Posted November 30, 2018 Author Posted November 30, 2018 Thanks Saturn Celeste, it's reassuring to know that it's happened to someone else and the world hasn't ended haha :) thinking it might all be in my head was a little comforting, just to have an "out", like a safety net, and having that yanked away was a little disconcerting, to say the least. But maybe Im thinking of it wrong? Maybe this is the safety net? As long as I stick to the rules, that is ;) I'll swing by the intros section and say hi! X/
Elin by the Sea Posted November 30, 2018 Posted November 30, 2018 I've had similar things happen. One thing that gets me a lot is that I'll keep getting the same card in certain situations (even with different decks). If that happens, I'm going to pay attention to it; maybe it's trying to get a message through my thick skull. ::)

X/ You'd be surprised how often this happens to readers, especially those who read for themselves. We call those cards, stalker cards. ;)
Jewel Posted November 30, 2018 Posted November 30, 2018 You'd be surprised how often this happens to readers, especially those who read for themselves. We call those cards, stalker cards. ;) No kidding! I have had plenty of stalker cards, what is even more interesting is to keep a notation of them in a journal and what previous readings and positions that showed up in the previous time. I reference back to those readings in an active reading often times as a way to see how this card is "behaving." It is not as rare as you would think for that sort of stuff to happen. Welcome to Tarot

Elin by the Sea Posted November 30, 2018 Posted November 30, 2018 @ Elin by the Sea, I might have to get another deck soon, sounds like it might come in handy! Careful now, that might lead to a severe case of Tarot Deck Acquisition Syndrome! I've a mild case of it myself ;D

I've a mild case of it myself ;D Haha sounds like I'm going to have to keep an eye on that, sounds serious! ;) I'm such a hoarder, you just KNOW i'm going to be neck deep in cards before long

That's why we have the de-enabler thread! https://www.thetarotforum.com/talking-tarot/this-is-the-de-enable-thread-concerning-buying-and-reading-of-tarot/ I guess the benefit of joining a forum of tarot readers is that you're already prepared for these situations before they arise hehe ;D ;D
Jewel Posted December 3, 2018 Posted December 3, 2018 I guess the benefit of joining a forum of tarot readers is that you're already prepared for these situations before they arise hehe ;D ;D Actually is because most of us have gone through it at some point or another and we end up knee deep in decks we will never use and often scratching our heads as to why we bought them ....
Faye Posted December 3, 2018 Author Posted December 3, 2018 Jewel I feel like you’ve just described 95% of all the things I own lol
Guest Night Shade Posted December 3, 2018 Posted December 3, 2018 Actually is because most of us have gone through it at some point or another and we end up knee deep in decks we will never use and often scratching our heads as to why we bought them .... Many times I've bought a new deck just to buy a new deck - not because I really wanted one or needed one, but because I thought I needed to keep building my collection to be a true "Tarot Person". It's insane.
Raggydoll Posted December 3, 2018 Posted December 3, 2018 Jewel I feel like you’ve just described 95% of all the things I own lol  X-D This was how I felt like 6 months ago before I started my downsizing/'life simplifying' thing. It was very freeing but I'm not done yet. It's an ongoing process (struggle?) ^-^
Faye Posted December 3, 2018 Author Posted December 3, 2018 X-D This was how I felt like 6 months ago before I started my downsizing/'life simplifying' thing. It was very freeing but I'm not done yet. It's an ongoing process (struggle?) ^-^ I am seriously impressed you’re doing a big clear out - every time I try, I get 10 mins in until I convince myself that I’ll *definitely* use those 7-year-old tin scraps I forgot I had X-D more power to you for actually working through it!
