A little nervous, but hey!

Hey everyone,

I've dabbled in tarot for a few years now (very very minorly). I started when I was about 18, and I'm in my mid 20s now. I've always found it very interesting and really, really wanted to learn but I've always found it very intimidating and extremely hard to trust my intuition.

I ordered the Tarot of Pagan Cats deck today and I thought, well, now I've committed to a cute deck with kittens all over it I better start learning what to do and not relying on the tiny little guidebook I got with a set from the newsagent in 2012.

I'm a bit slow picking things up but I really hope I can learn some things by being here  :)

Hiya!  Welcome to the forum!

There is so much to learn about the tarot, it can feel so overwhelming at first!  My best advice for learning to read the tarot is just to start doing readings - I use the little guidebooks when I'm not sure still so its totally fine.  Once you've got enough posts (minimum of 5) you'll be able to join with the reading circles - the Newbies is a great place to start reading for others!  But you'll find loads of discussions about the cards and lots of welcoming people :)

Also, I don't have it personally, but I love the Tarot of Pagan Cats :)

Its great to have you here, dive in and enjoy!

Hello, I am a 42 year old single mum who has dabbled with Trot for years, I have also been intimidated with the cards over the years, understanding them  and the combinations are quite overwhelming, but have felt more drawn to them over the past few years.  My understanding is more clearer now although I feel I still have much to learn but i feel more now when the cards come out, not sure if its because I have more life experience and I can relate better to situations now?  Anyway Im on my journey with the Tarot Cards and am loving it xx

Hello Ella!  Welcome to TT&M!  No need to be overwhelmed by the tarot.  We have many threads here that discuss that very feeling you're experiencing and you'll see that after a week or so of participating in our various threads that you'll feel so much better than you do now.  And yes, I agree, life experiences can lend great wisdom when sorting through our various situations.

Hi and welcome from another newbie!

I know what you mean about feeling overwhelmed - sometimes I read some of the amazingly insightful, eloquent posts on here and I think, there's no way I'll ever have that kind of storehouse of knowledge and understanding. But I think we just gotta take it one step at a time. Patiently and joyfully enjoy the ride, right?

Hope to see you around, maybe at the next Newbie exchange in December. Just looked up the Pagan cat tarot, how cool!

Hello and welcome, brown9944!  I was a Tarot dabbler too, but now that I've joined this forum, I'm all in - I bet you will be soon too.

And yeah, cat decks rule!  :)

Hello and welcome to you as well, Ella Bella!  I know what you mean about reading cards in combination - it can be so confusing.  We have a game in the Chatter section called The Two-Card Tarot Game; you can practice reading card combinations and have a lot of fun at the same time!  Hope to see you there!  :)

Hello Brown9944 and Ella Bella! Tarot can be super intimidating. There are so many cards, and so many decks, and so many books... it can definitely make your head spin! Sitting with a deck and just pulling cards and studying them really does help. It can take some time to find the deck that really "speaks" to you, but once you do? Whew! It'll have a lot to say.

Happy reading! brown9944[/member] it sounds like you've got a really cool deck on its way to you!

Hey,

You totally got this! The Tarot gives the gift and potential to increase, use, and trust our intuition. I personally journal or record all the readings I do for myself so I can reflect, which I leave a space for in my journal. It helps me learn a LOT about a card but it helps me realize any intuitive hunches I had. Plus affirmations help too! I hope you have fun learning the Tarot  :)
