Guest Night Shade Posted December 11, 2018 Posted December 11, 2018 Is anyone else turned off by cards that have oversized, decorative borders? A few years ago, I bought the Mystic Faerie tarot, because I loved its beautiful artwork. When I went through the cards, however, I couldn't get past the large scrolling borders around each card. The cards all started to look alike, and they made me think of framed portraits instead of spiritual tools. Fortunately, the cards were slightly crumpled on the side, so I had an excuse to return them. All in all, I think I'd rather the space taken up by a border be used to portray a scene that represents the card's meaning. What do you all think?
Thoughtful Posted December 11, 2018 Posted December 11, 2018 l really dislike oversized borders because they seem to detract from the images, and also because it makes the deck bigger to handle and l find them difficult to shuffle. l go for trimming them, which l had to do with The Everyday Enchantment and the Druidcraft decks. They now shuffle well and the images become more alive as though you are actually in the scene.
River Posted December 12, 2018 Posted December 12, 2018 I don't mind borders, but with the oversized ones, it depends. I don't think I'd mind the Mystic Faeries or the Jolanda or even the Spiral but I don't like the Labyrinth and the Crystal.
Jewel Posted December 12, 2018 Posted December 12, 2018 My overall preference is borderless cards, but honestly I have little problem with decks with average borders. Oversized borders I am not so fond of. I was lucky to have a friend that trimmed my Druid Craft for me and it really changed the deck and my connection to it, and as mentioned by someone else so much easier to shuffle.
Bookworm Posted December 12, 2018 Posted December 12, 2018 I prefer borderless, and I wish I was talented enough to trim. Having seen some pics of the Crystal after trimming, that might be where I would begin. The Enchanted also.
