After a heavenly reading, have you ever eagerly awaited the arrival of the 2 of Cups into your life and your dream lover, only to look at yourself in the mirror one morning, and think: "Man, I feel like a woman!" or vise-versa if you happen to be a woman... as Jung's Anima & Animus pays you a visit.

Or awaited the tranquility of the 10 of Cups only to find out it's reefer psychosis.

Or perhaps it was The Tower you dreaded, only to put a coin into the slots at a casino and win the jackpot...The Tower would be The house falling about you in bankruptcy.  This we have named The Spin, when the small amount of dark in the fluffy card pays you an unsuspected visit, or the tiny bit of light in the horror-show cards comes good for you!

Night Shade & yours truly were going to do a thread just about Spin of the cards, but we've decided to, as it's Christmas, open up the books and let this thread be about anything you please ... as long as it is about tarot.  Card meanings , spreads, love- hate, God - The devil, Heaven - hell...whatever.

This is like buying one and getting infinity for free !!!!!

Anyway, I'll start off the thread.

A lot of people want to know about feelings...how does he/she feel about me? ... but i find feelings are fickle (esp in the young) and change like the wind.  Thoughts are concrete and reliable & don't change so quickly.  And i expect that being sensitives we've all had that notion that so and so is thinking about you.  I think cards that registrar thoughts are a much better indication of how someone views another.

So, in your view what is a card/s that tells you that someone is thinking about a person, and why would the card indicate that, and in what way are they thinking about the person?

I'll give you my three:

The Devil because of it's association with obsession ...naughty perhaps unhealthy thoughts but not necessarily.

7 of Cups is the archetypal thought card... the clouds even look like cartoon thought-bubbles.

8 of Pentacles would be repeatedly thinking of someone over and over and over because of the infinity of the 8 & the repetition of the worker, and the intensity on his face.

Any thoughts?

As for cards that that show that someone is thinking about a person:

4 of Cups - The person is so absorbed in thoughts of their loved one that they're oblivious to everything else.

2 of Wands - The globe the man holds could represent the person who consumes his world, the one he can't stop thinking about.

6 of Cups - Thinking about your old friends and family members who you haven't seen in forever.

I am having one of those moments where everything falls into place in the weirdest way.  Will you join me?

Here is the Ten of Cups from the Mary-El Tarot.

Which card or cards tell you that how a person is thinking about you is completely different from how they feel about you?

My choice is the 2 of Swords.  The woman on the card is totally lost in thought, blindfolded to and with her back turned to her emotions (the water behind her).  Whoever she's thinking about, her inner feelings may tell an entirely different story.

My card would be 4 of Cups.  He's desperately trying to ignore & fight his feelings, & think of anything but her.  However, his emotions won't let him.

And The High Priestess in this context!  A prim & proper lady who is immaculate & conservative & doesn't like profanities (like a Great Aunt we all have maybe), but has these wild passions inside, fantasies of debauchery with the gardener etc (i'm thinking Lady Chatterley)

Probably more common than we imagine!  Repression of emotions, feelings & your real self is exhausting.

*Magically appears out of thin air like in "Bewitched" LOL*

Did someone say "debauchery"?

I've never thought about that before... I just always assumed she's single.

Now that I think of it, I don't think she's a virgin? Not so immaculate, but I still think she's single.

I'm getting off topic on my own co-thread here, but this reminds me of something I was thinking about last night.  Sometimes I wonder which is the "real" me,  the person I am IRL, or Night Shade.  Night Shade says and does things that I would never do (IRL I'm extremely introverted, and have trouble even speaking to people).  I can't decide if she's just a persona who comes out to play when I'm online, or if she's the real me finally given the liberty to express myself.

Or maybe it's a combination of both.

It's not one or the other and it's not a combination of both.  It's so much more than that.

You, Night Shade, don't pick two keywords and wonder which one is the "real" Six of Cups or King of Wands, to name two random cards.  You delve into nuances. You look at traditional and creative interpretations.  You consider the assigned position of each card and where it appears relative to other cards.  You look at context - the question that was asked, the situation to be evaluated...and so forth, with wisdom, experience, intuition, kindness...and so forth again!

"The real you" is at least as complex as a Tarot card, aren't you?

And to circle back to the main focus of this thread - it feels like you asked the cards "who is the real me" and pulled the Six of Pentacles.  You concluded that sometimes it's one, sometimes the other, depending on how your inner resources are allocated at a particular time.  Sounds reasonable to me.  Little did you know that the Pentacles in the sky were going to start spinning, the fellow seriously handing out the alms was going to start to sing and dance and throw his money up in the air, and the two hopeful supplicants were going to be joined by a whole crowd.

If you feel comfortable with yourself--your OWN self--own it. Why not? How many years will you lose, not doing so? I have lost a few of my own.

You're doing beautifully putting forth yourself. Why not take that into your own self, past, hurt, growth, awareness?

For the record, I am an INFJ...there are many of us who are SUPER introverted, despite seeming otherwise.

Thank you, Grandma[/member] .  I love your 6 of Pentacles illustration.  This forum has been so good for me - ever since I joined, different parts of me that I've kept hidden inside (even from myself) have been coming out, and I'm starting to get to know and really like them!

Okay, let's get this thread back on track here.  We've talked about thoughts and feelings - now let's add actions into the mix.  Sometimes people act one way, but their thoughts and feelings are moving in an entirely different direction. So which cards do you think represent someone who is just "putting on an act"?

My pick is the 2 of Pentacles.  The man on the card is juggling the Pentacles with a "no sweat, I got this attitude", but meanwhile his emotions (the sea in the background) are all churned up.  He looks like he has it all together, but he may be about to drop the ball.

Posted

Sometimes I wonder if the Nine of Swords might be putting on an act - "feel sorry for me, look how sad and anguished I am"!  And if that doesn't achieve his goal of focusing all the attention on poor him, he will lie down and stick knives in himself Ten of Swords style, to prove his point.

I diagnose him with Factitious Disorder!

"Factitious disorder is a mental disorder in which a person acts as if he or she has a physical or mental illness when, in fact, he or she has consciously created the symptoms. These people are willing to undergo painful or risky tests to get sympathy and special attention."

I think The Magician depending on where he is in the spread could be looked at 'putting on' an act. He has all the tools but does he really know how to use them or is he just putting on a show?

And another version of the card in the reply directly above this one, a tribute to a consummate politician AND actor, the late great Ronald Reagan and his lovely wife Nancy!
