Grandma Posted December 24, 2018 Posted December 24, 2018 This thread started out as a way to have some fun, and it continues to succeed. But it also offers flashes of serious brilliance. Thank you Flaxen for an interpretation that is funny but will also be useful in actual readings as well. 6 of Pentacles could also be putting on an act - eager to show off in public how generous they are, pillar of the community etc. What strings are attached to this benevolence? What do you need to do to ‘deserve’ this generosity? I forgot to explain what I meant. The part of this interpretation that made me think differently about the card is the idea that the strings can be pulled both ways at the same time. I've previously seen it just one way or the other. Not only can the donor dictate behavior from the beneficiaries, but the beneficiaries can manipulate the donor. Just pretend until they get what they want, then take the money and run! So in that way, everyone on the card might be acting in ways we do not expect. How depressing.
sandrang123 Posted December 24, 2018 Posted December 24, 2018 I've been out of range (family, travel, work, holidays). I agree with you, Night Shade[/member]. Two of pentacles most always springs to mind. It seems to be "balance" but it can also mean "division" or "divorce" or "acrimony" which is just about the opposite. Sometimes (personally) I feel like Temperance, as a Trump, challenges me. I also agree with Strength when reversed. The other card I feel veils duplicity is the ten of pentacles. I never really embrace the "happiness" there, largely because 10s are end of the line, so if someone in their earlier years pulls it...well then, what next? All Best, Sandy 6 of Pentacles could also be putting on an act - eager to show off in public how generous they are, pillar of the community etc. What strings are attached to this benevolence? What do you need to do to ‘deserve’ this generosity? Good one, Flaxen[/member] . A lot of politicians come to mind...
Guest Night Shade Posted December 26, 2018 Posted December 26, 2018 So, another spin on the first three spins: Which cards suggest that a person's thoughts, actions, and feelings add up to "they don't even know what they want? My pick is the five of wands. The men on the card are flailing off in all different directions - maybe they represent the different parts of his psyche and their different wants and needs. Or maybe they represent the five senses, and how each one always seems to interpret a situation in a different way.
joy Posted December 27, 2018 Posted December 27, 2018 The 8 of Swords. The woman is bound, blindfolded and trapped. But she could remove the blindfold, I do not think she is that bound. If she knew what she wanted she might just do that.
Grandma Posted December 27, 2018 Posted December 27, 2018 How about the Devil? The RWS Devil looks more sad and confused than evil. He is bewildered, raising his hand as if to say "Hey I'm over here! Did you forget about me? I'm perched like some forsaken elf on a shelf back here. I don't care what these two do in the privacy of their bedroom but don't expect me to watch!". Maybe he is having an identity crisis and has either forgotten or doesn't want to use all the power vested in him as the lord of darkness. If he wanted, he could just smite them or something, and set himself free.

What am I doing stuck down in this pit with these two freaks? But then again I am king here so, perks and all"
Guest Night Shade Posted December 28, 2018 Posted December 28, 2018 So, I've been hearing the song "High Hopes" by Panic! at the Disco nonstop all over the radio lately (not complaining - I love that song), and it gave me an idea for a card spin. At first, I was going to ask "which cards show that you're hopes and dreams are coming true?", but of course I had to twist it. Now the question is - which cards show that you're hopes and dreams are coming true - but at a price? My pick is the 9 of Pentacles. The woman on the card looks like she had it all, but that snail in the foreground might start eating away at her garden of riches. By the way, I know you must have heard the song a million times, but just in case you want to hear it again, here it is.
Grandma Posted December 28, 2018 Posted December 28, 2018 That's an insightful reading of the Nine of Pentacles, Night Shade. I never thought of it! I'm not sure I ever even noticed the snail. How much richer our readings can be, the more symbols we see on the cards. Here's a more optimistic, confident version of a song with the same name. It makes me think of the Page of Wands and the boy on Six of Cups.
Guest Night Shade Posted December 28, 2018 Posted December 28, 2018 Thank you for this, Grandma! I haven't heard Frank Sinatra in ages, and I love this High Hopes song too.
Guest Night Shade Posted January 16, 2019 Posted January 16, 2019 This is a fun question. If a character on a Tarot card could speak to you, what would it say? For instance, I think the wolf on the Moon card would say "what are you wasting your life for - get out there and howl!" And I think the beggars on the 6 of Pentacles would say "the things I have to do to get money for more Tarot cards!". What would the Tarot people say to you?
Grandma Posted January 16, 2019 Posted January 16, 2019 The Hermit is saying "why is whatever you can't find always in the last place you would ever think to look?" or alternately, "thank god this mood lighting hides the dust in the corners".
