Rarehare Posted December 16, 2018 Posted December 16, 2018 I was just curious if anybody has the Ma’at and what they like about it? It doesn’t seem to have classic RWS symbolism, but some of the images are evocative and it’s cool that it has lunar and astrological associations. Thanks!
Flaxen Posted December 16, 2018 Posted December 16, 2018 I have it. :) The artwork is absolutely stunning - the depictions of some of the cards is breathtaking. It does have its own system but you can still read with it easily. The cards are large though - better for showcasing the art but can be tricky to shuffle. The Devil is a controversial card in this deck - it emphasises the ties to physical existence. Some people reacted quite strongly to it.
Asher Posted December 16, 2018 Posted December 16, 2018 It is available as an app (by Fool's Dog) that includes Julie's unabridged book which explains the astrology, symbolism, her entire system. As Flaxen said, it is a stunning deck! I own all of Julie's decks and they are amazing!
Little Fang Posted December 16, 2018 Posted December 16, 2018 I got excited thinking I missed an ancient Egyptian deck. Without buying it, is there an explanation on why they called it... Well it's technically titled MAAT not ma'at. Hm.
AJ-ish/Sharyn Posted December 16, 2018 Posted December 16, 2018 ancient Egypt has long been one of my interests. I was confident from her blog Cuccia-Watts understood the subject she built her system around. Imagine my disappointment to find the she had totally ignored or missed one of the basic tenets of old Egypt. 10 day weeks. Which throws off the system she based the deck on. Put it back in its box and sold it.
gregory Posted December 16, 2018 Posted December 16, 2018 I have it. I find it too bloody - that's the only word I can think of to describe it; I don't mean the blood of violence. It is beautiful, but...
Saturn Celeste Posted December 16, 2018 Posted December 16, 2018 I wanted it so badly when it came out but thought it was too expensive at the time. Now look at the value! ::)
Rarehare Posted December 17, 2018 Author Posted December 17, 2018 I’ve always found the 3 of swords so evocative that I never forgot the deck. The hardcover is selling for a lot now, do you think the value would continue to climb even if it wasn’t paired with the original deck? (I agree with The Devil being confusing unless you see if from the standpoint of transformation and physical ties...it’d be interesting to see what the book says...there’s a workbook that sells for less, not the Corrine Kenner one, but a new one, but can you learn as much from a workbook as a guidebook, esp. w/ a lunar cycle incl.?) Btw...which card has the snowy owl on it?
AJ-ish/Sharyn Posted December 17, 2018 Posted December 17, 2018 you'd be far better served with her Journey Into Egypt deck http://www.newmoontradingco.com/Journeyintoegypttarot.html her decks and books have always been expensive, she self-publishes and self-distributes, and I think the books are print on demand. (I think at one time there were 11 for the Ma'at deck) She really did her homework with Journey and the companion workbook showing her own journey painting the cards is really special and her system wheel is in accord with her intuition and ancient Egyptian calendars. the apps for her decks are good too, at Fools Dog for under 5 bucks for cards and book!, on ios and android.
Asher Posted December 17, 2018 Posted December 17, 2018 Btw...which card has the snowy owl on it? That would be the 6 of Wands.
