Thank you!!  <3

That's lovely! I'm not a trimmer myself, but I can see that the finished result is actually more usable (smaller) as well as retaining the relevant title and being nicely proportioned. And the job itself is very professional - gosh, you could convert me LOL

Really nice.

Thank you! I’m really pleased with how it turned out!

That is so beautiful, the deck should have been published like that!

I also admire your bravery, I don't think I'd be brave enough to trim an OOP deck like that - I do own this one, so I do have the option...

As you can imagine, this was not my first trimming project. I practiced on a lot of mass marketed and affordable decks first. But I guess it also comes down to personal philosophy. For me it’s incredibly important that every single one of my tools are truly ‘mine’ and that I can alter them in any way that I feel will enhance their effectiveness or add to the overall experience when using them. The more I bond with my tools and really infuse them with my energies, the more I find that my gifts are enhanced and my abilities as a reader expands and evolves. I’m fully aware that this is not the case for everyone so I am not suggesting that anyone should do what I do. If you do what feels right to you then that will help you expand your full potential. I believe a lot of our gifts and powers are tied to our authentic core and that’s how I explain my experiences in this area. I go with what I’m called to do.

My first trim was the Llewellyn, so easily replaceable (and I have a spare...). Made it so much more usable, love the Llewellyn, but the cards were too big and the borders were too wide. I think I'd want a LOT more practice before trimming a hard to replace deck. Still half way through a spare Tarot of the Cat People, looking lovely, but I need to replace my corner cutter.

I think for an OOP deck I'd want a better paper trimmer as well. Not that I'm even considering the possibility of doing it  ;)

Of course your not considering it. That would be crazy  ;) I will say that one should be extra careful with decks that have a glossy or thick lamination. The mother mary oracle is one that has a lamination that could peel if you use dull tools. But this particular deck (the dark goddess) was like a dream. The card stock is so compact and lovely that the edges look as new (but better, since they are now silvery  ^-^). The Stellas tarot was another one that turned out wonderfully (that one is also OOP so this is not my first crazy-project  8))

This is my latest project that I’m super stoked about. It’s the white sage tarot - or should I say The deck formerly known as the white sage tarot, now nicknamed The Intuitive White Sage Oracle 😉

So, this is a deck I’ve been really conflicted about. I love the imagery and I can tell how intuitive and powerful the symbolism is. I just struggle to fit it into my idea of  Tarot, and I also dont resonate with some of the associations (both when it comes to the chakras assignments but also things like letting a snake represent the devil. It just does not fit into my own ideas and beliefs. Though I certainly understand and respect the theory behind it.)

I decided to try reading this deck intuitively instead and I started with majors only readings. I really loved that! But it felt like a shame that I couldn’t work with the minors in the same way. Their titles bothered me a lot and it stopped my intuitive process.

So, that’s when I decided to do a minor procedure on the deck as a whole ☺️

This is the before:

And the after...

This is the mass market tin version so it turned into a really lovely mini deck (I adore mini decks!). I like that it’s a fairly inexpensive deck that is readily available. I have the first edition too and I won’t be trimming that.

This deck is now perfect for my intuitive/psychic readings. The images are much more suggestive this way (in my opinion!)

I have this deck and really like it, but can see your issues with it and have a few of them myself. I love it mini! I am scared of cutting my cards as I don’t have a steady hand, but this looks really nice!

I used a paper cutter so that helped a lot, but I still get why you hesitate

Oh, I’d still get it slightly off center even with a paper cutter...

😁 But with this project you’d only have to get one side straight. It would be way worse if you messed up all four sides 😅

Raggydoll, the July images you posted didn't make the forum move, can you repost them?

You’re right, I hadn’t noticed they were gone! I might have them stored on my computer, but I’m not 100% sure. I’ll look later.

@AJ-ish/Sharyn I had unfortunately not kept those images, but I could take some new if you like? There won't be a comparison but I could still show you how the deck turned out. It is the dark goddess tarot modification you are curious about, right?

I saw them when they were there, I'm just thinking about new members reading threads from the beginning. I wonder if they were be seen in the way back machine and lifted from there?

You've made the White Sage Tarot look very much like something I want. Whenever I see it I always feel "it's nice but..."

Now I see what the problem is, it shouldn't be a tarot it should be an oracle. I am absolutely not heading over to Amazon to put it on my wishlist along with some new blades for my papercutter (the heavily laminated reprint of Tarot of the Cat People killed the blade and my corner rounder. Oh yes, I'm not adding a new corner rounder either 🤣)

I've also not been reminded that I quite liked the Zillich and this could work for that as well. And the Zillich has definitely not been added to my wishlist either.

You are being a terrible influence on me. Or I'm just incredibly weak willed around tarot decks (and books, notebooks, chocolate...) 🤣

Now, thinking of the Zillich, it's a shame about the back as it's rather nice and the symmetry will be ruined, but I can live with that. But, if we're turning tarot into oracle can we dump cards we don't like? The Zillich is so lovely overall, but that Hierophant does nothing but annoy me. With a tarot deck you're kind of stuck, snip those titles off and....

I'm kind of reminded of the Dreampower, except in that case I'd just dump all the minors. I could have done better! (Weird deck, taking his other decks into consideration I don't think R. J. Stewart cares for the minors much.)

That went off on an unexpected tangent!

Yes you can. (And I would! But I probably wouldn’t throw them away, just store them separately and not include them in the reading.) I think 78 cards is a bit much for an oracle so you can absolutely remove some. Feel your way with it. You can always add cards back in again if you change your mind. But I have left cards out before and been very pleased with it. I’ve done it on oracle decks too (the ones that were oracles to begin with 😉), mainly because the card had disturbing imagery or a redundant theme.

Yes. And who knows. When it’s no longer a hierophant then you might find a new identity and purpose for it and find that you like it.

Only using the majors is definitely a classic way and even if it’s s bit on the thinner size for an oracle it will still work because of how balanced the major arcana usually is

But an interesting one and I feel that it definitely belongs here since we are talking about new purposes for decks! And leaving out cards is also a way of modifying or personalizing a deck!
