RavenOfSummer Posted December 28, 2018 Posted December 28, 2018 Does anyone have plans for working with their cards as we begin the new year? These could be certain elements of your practice you want to focus on, things you want to learn, working with certain decks, etc. I am recommitting myself to a daily tarot practice. The power of working with the cards in bringing other important aspects of my life and journey into focus is profound in my experience, and I can really see the difference between when I am at least doing a simple reading each day and when I am not. My tarot practice also supports my journaling, and my journey through the Bardic grade Druid course that I am currently on. I want to continue to deepen my lunar practice through working with tarot and oracle. 2018 has been a wonderful year for that thanks to the Lunar Group Readings tribe, and I want to continue to be aligned with the lunar cycles by reading intentionally at the new and full moons, and to try to incorporate more waxing and waning moon work as well. Similarly, I want to continue to use the cards to deepen my connection with the seasonal cycles of the year. I have been stockpiling some longer spreads that I want to try, so I would like to make time to work with some of those longer spreads. I want to intentionally work through my deck collection. In my enthusiasm I have managed to acquire quite a few decks that I've barely worked with yet. I plan to join VGimlet's Deck of the Week regularly to help me work through some decks and see what they have to teach me. Hopefully I will make some new connections. This will be my priority this year over acquiring new decks, though there are a few releases I am waiting for. I'm also planning to send a few decks to new homes. Finally, not tarot but divination...I would like to finally put some time into learning the runes. So, what are you plans for your tarot practice in 2019?
Guest Night Shade Posted December 28, 2018 Posted December 28, 2018 Like you, RavenOfSummer[/member] , I want to work through my deck collection, maybe focusing on a deck a week. I've never done deck interviews for any of them, so I think that's something I'll try. I've also never used any of the spreads that come with the LWBs, so I'm planning to try out some of those as well. I would like to have a daily Tarot practice, but when I try to put myself on a strict regimen I always fail, so I think I'll just try to do the best I can when the Tarot spirit moves me. I also want to keep up with Tarot journaling, which I'm enjoying so far.
Flaxen Posted December 28, 2018 Posted December 28, 2018 This year, I’d like to go for depth. I have a lovely collection of decks but sometimes miss the time when I only had two! I’m going to work with 4 decks for three months each. The first is Tarot of the Crone which is my Winter Solstice to Spring Equinox deck. Haven’t decided on the other 3 decks yet - one will be a TdM/Historical. I’m thinking about the Matthews Arthurian as I love the landscapes and it would complement my Druidry.

You don't want it to lose the sense of love and spirit that brings you to your practice. I do find I have to nudge myself if I fall out of my practice, and I always then feel better once I get back to it, but at the same time I don't want anything to feel forced. And yay journaling! I'm glad you started a journal! ^-^ This year, I’d like to go for depth. I have a lovely collection of decks but sometimes miss the time when I only had two! What a beautiful idea, Flaxen. I also want to focus on depth over breadth this year, and I love choosing seasonal decks and aligning with the cycles of the year in my practice. I'm looking forward to seeing what other decks you choose!
Petalene Posted December 29, 2018 Posted December 29, 2018 My tarot goals: 1. Do at least do a daily draw and journal it. I know it won’t happen every single day, but I still want to try and I won’t get down on myself over it. I currently do one every day, but I don’t always take the time to journal it. 2. At least large spread a week. More is great. 3. Write my own LWB for the deck that got me started on tarot. When I bought it, I didn’t know what to do with because no LWB. While it’s RWS based, the connections aren’t always obvious since I’m new to tarot. It will help me with my understanding of the specific deck and with tarot in general. 4. (And like a few others on this thread) Use the books and decks I have. I recently came across the concept of a depth year and I want to commit it for tarot. I have a couple of decks I haven’t done much with and it’s time to start using them! I haven’t hammered out the specifics yet, but I’m going to take some time to plan this weekend. I am going to finish Understanding the Tarot Court by Mary K Greer first and then do the activities again with another deck. 5. And this will be first, restructure how I’m journaling. What I’m doing right now works, but it could be better and prettier. Review my entries at the end of the month to see what new insights I get. That’s what I’ve got for right now.
2dogs Posted December 29, 2018 Posted December 29, 2018 I'd like to get back into one of the monthly exchange circles. I'm not much good with actual Tarot compared to other cards but the Quantum Tarot seems easier for me.
Bookworm Posted December 29, 2018 Posted December 29, 2018 I'm going to try to do at least four readings a month for myself, in line with the phases of the moon. The lunar circle has been great in helping me see how the moon affects me and others. Another focus for me, at least in the first part of the year, will be the sacred feminine. I'm going to keep working with the Asherah, because that has been really helpful in that regard. Also, I have a brand new Dark Goddess deck, which I haven't even looked at yet, and I plan to devote a lot of attention to that. ETA: I forgot to mention that recording my readings, daily draws, etc., in my physical journal will be a major focus of my year.
Rowena Posted December 29, 2018 Posted December 29, 2018 I want to spend more time working with my cards, and more time going in depth, and studying each individual card (especially the majors.) I also want to start working with other decks, and I want to become fluent enough to confidently do exchanges. But mostly, I just want to keep up my practice.
Grizabella Posted December 29, 2018 Posted December 29, 2018 My plans are the same as ever. Just reading the cards professionally and putting some mileage on my Everyday Enchantment deck. I try not to pin myself down with a bunch of "I will do this" type stuff. I find it works better for me to just go with the flow, as the old saying goes. Making lists of stuff to do with the card makes it more of a chore for me while just doing whatever comes along is a much more rewarding and enjoyable schedule.
Arch Posted December 31, 2018 Posted December 31, 2018 I will continue my journal as it is a very stabilizing influence on my life. I also plan to complete my practice draws. (Maybe transform it when I have gotten through all the cards look into different subthemes etc) Other than that I don't have any firm commitments to Tarot. I think it would be a mistake for me to add any more things to do right now. I need the surplus in other areas.
DanielJUK Posted December 31, 2018 Posted December 31, 2018 In 2018 I got back into reading for other people, I wasn't doing this very much in the 2 years before as I was emotionally exhausted and I found it hard to deal with other people's problems as well as my own. But this year I got back into it! I love reading for other people and helping them but I think I shifted the balance too much one way and I neglected my personal readings and my own tarot work. This year I want to balance both, reading for others and my personal tarot work. So that is my big goal! My other goals this year.... - Try to make some predictions coming up each month generally in the world based on tarot - Monitor my own transits in astrology, see how they turn out - start learning TdeM as a system - start learning Thoth as a system Those are my plans ahead <3
legendaryelement Posted December 31, 2018 Posted December 31, 2018 2018 was my Year of Weekly Deck Changes; I chose 4 decks for each month/zodiac sign & had a *Wild Week* every three months to keep things more on track. For 2019, the change-up will be with the 36 decans of the zodiac year.
Saturn Celeste Posted December 31, 2018 Posted December 31, 2018 My tarot plans for 2019 is to do jobs, jobs, jobs. Keep improving my website and promoting it. When I'm not reading for others, I want to keep working on the tarot library here. I haven't added any cards for a long time. I want to keep my mentor program going strong and I have a fanfic about Fallout 3 that I want to write and get posted on Scribophile! lol
AJ-ish/Sharyn Posted January 1, 2019 Posted January 1, 2019 this sounds interesting. In aid of that I found this 2019 moon phase to print https://www.calendar-12.com/moon_phases/2019 I seldom do readings for myself because my life is so mundane...so I'll start with mundanes. I'm going to try to do at least four readings a month for myself, in line with the phases of the moon. The lunar circle has been great in helping me see how the moon affects me and others.
Eric13 Posted January 1, 2019 Posted January 1, 2019 I'm immersing myself back into tarot reading, starting from day one and by the summer I will be doing readings again. I've already bonded with a new deck, the classic RWS and I'm practicing multiple times a day now. Turns out I have 2 well known Wiccan shop's near me which I never knew about.
Canid Posted January 1, 2019 Posted January 1, 2019 I’m tackling Kabbalistic Tarot...love it! Although, it may take a bit longer than one year...
Lantana Posted January 2, 2019 Posted January 2, 2019 I am also going to try committing to a daily tarot practice. I've fallen off tarot a bit in 2018 as making art became more of a priority. I used to never do daily draws because, as a disabled housebound person, I saw no point. Every day was usually the same, so seeking daily advice felt pointless. But now that I'm slowly having more obligations in my life, a daily draw makes more and more sense for me to do.
Starlight Posted January 2, 2019 Posted January 2, 2019 this sounds interesting. In aid of that I found this 2019 moon phase to print https://www.calendar-12.com/moon_phases/2019 I seldom do readings for myself because my life is so mundane...so I'll start with mundanes. That's a great link - and it showed the info for the moon phases in my local timezone! I might schedule some Tarot readings around the moon phases as well, which is about once a week or so. Either readings or meditating with a card.
Anouk Posted January 2, 2019 Posted January 2, 2019 I plan to bring more meditation and mindfulness to my tarot studies through a deeper understanding of each card selected for the day. I had this epiphany this morning about the card of the day. It's important because it helps us to build our own experience and meaning with the cards, making our own associations. And, importantly, it gives us a focus for the day to observe our own interactions with the world. So now when I select a card I ask "What shall I observe today?" For example, today I selected the Ten of Swords (which is really brutal in the Shadowscapes deck). But I chose to see it as a learning opportunity for understanding that card by looking at how those feelings manifest, and the impact it has on me. While remembering that if something bad happened, it's the card for the DAY, not my entire life. I actually had a great day and went out and enjoyed myself. But I've learned my association with that card is releasing harmful delusions, and also not allowing fear of ruination to rule my life.
Grizabella Posted January 14, 2019 Posted January 14, 2019 My Tarot plans for 2019 are pretty simple. I'm dedicating all my energies to building a professional Tarot business. My life is very stable now even though, we all know that old thing about the best laid plans of mice and men, so unforeseen things might come along. However, I know without so much as a smidgen of a doubt that my home here is permanent. No more having to wonder what next and face having to pack up and move yet again. I'll be opening an online store for my arts and crafts sales. I'm working on items for that. I want to build some inventory before I open that, though. Everything will be geared toward Tarot and other divination methods. It will be quite diverse, too. Everything from jewelry and apparel to card cases, soft sculptures and oil paintings. Everything will relate in some way to divination.

Grizabella Posted January 14, 2019 Posted January 14, 2019 I'm really glad you're excited about it, Raven. I hope others will be, too. My work is time-consuming and mostly one-of-a-kind, so it takes me a little while to produce items but I like to think they're worth it. Nobody has disliked my stuff yet. X-D I used to do custom work, but I prefer to just produce items and sell them as I create them now. If anyone would like to see certain things, I'm certainly open to suggestions and working on something similar. I just prefer not to take orders. There's a lot of pressure for speed with that and what I do isn't able to be speeded up much. For instance, I created a wedding neck piece for my grand-daughter's wedding on Halloween. I worked for 10 days straight, doing nothing else but beading on it every waking minute, but it still took me ten days to complete.
Guest Posted January 14, 2019 Posted January 14, 2019 Have my wife's deck published.I took a break from my personal project and made her a deck for Christmas. Now she is assuming I shall put as much effort into her deck as I do my personal decks... Well that's gonna burn up a year of my life...and a pile of money I'm sure.
