I'm trying to find a reliable android app that gives accurate card explanations, a good range of different spreads and allows for user shuffling and card selection for spreads, and collates data to be able to provide information about trends in your readings. I want to use it as a learning tool.

What is your favourite app, and why?

I love the Fool's Dog apps!  There is a free one that gives you the idea (although I don't like it very much, it goes between decks and didn't feel coherent enough for me).  The others you have to pay for but they are totally worth it!  Can't find a link right now, I'll be back in a short while with one...

Here's the link http://www.foolsdog.com/appList.html

It doesn't do the data stuff you're looking for, but it allows shuffling, different spreads (set ones and also a freeform mode) and has a journal where it records all the readings you make with it.

Thanks. I have the free version. At least it's a good way to see other decks, but yeah I can't handle the inconsistency. It looks good, but it doesn't work properly on my phone.

I agree Fool's dog apps are good, well thought and there's a lot of choices amongst recent decks

I also use sometimes Uni tarot. It's free and easy to use, but it's more restrictive in decks(only historical decks) and spreads (there's not a free form spread for example).

on Android, I love the Galaxy Tone apps, full list on Google Play - https://play.google.com/store/apps/dev?id=8723559602127594367

Galaxy Tarot is their RWS digital version but is not available in all areas / countries. they used to have the Wild Unknown but the creator has pulled a digital version currently but they are excellent. But they have made quite a few. I use their card of the day daily :)

Thanks everyone. I decided to get the shadowscapes dog's fool app as a handy companion for my deck, and I paid for the upgrade of galaxy tarot as its very thorough and collates data on symbols and everything. Ugly app, though. They really need a designer [emoji12]

On a PC I love the free PROGRAMME, Orphalese. But it only runs on Windows.

It's brilliant. The free version only lets you use three decks, but even so... Registering it for one computer is only $29.99, or for 3, $49.99 - and then you can add as many decks as you like (I think I have about 70, which is overkill :D )

I've been using the Golden Thread Tarot app. It has card explanations, and you can draw daily cards and do spreads (or it can teach you how to do a spread with your real deck).  You can also log your daily cards and your reactions to them.  I found this super useful as a beginner when I didn't even have a real deck.  It was a great way to get into tarot. I still use the app when I'm "on the go" or if I just want to lookup a card real quick.

The same people have a couple other apps that are slightly different, but also awesome! One is an "academy" that teaches you the basics.  One of the other ones (Luminous Spirit Tarot) connects your tarot readings to the lunar cycle -- it's pretty cool! Their decks are beautiful, and I can't wait to buy one of them.  I'd link to their website, but I'm not allowed to post links.  Just google Labyrinthos, they should pop right up.

The apps are completely free (and free of ads).
