MysticMoonlight Posted January 16, 2019 Posted January 16, 2019 I most certainly do experience Tarot fatigue. Sometimes while doing a reading late at night and I can't make sense of things because my brain is done for the day but I don't want to "lose" the reading, I write it down. I write down the cards drawn for the reading and the order they were drawn and go back to it the next day or even later if need be. It works fantastically for getting a fresh perspective and seeing things with "new eyes."
Guest Night Shade Posted January 16, 2019 Posted January 16, 2019 But mostly, know when to hold 'em and know when to fold 'em. lol Like Grandma's image for the Page of Pentacles! X-D I think this one is my favorite, Grandma[/member] ! X-D
Guest Night Shade Posted January 16, 2019 Posted January 16, 2019 Oh gosh do I ever! But from my writing and art experiences I know it's just that I need to "prime the pump". Sometimes, at least for me, that means I need to just do something else altogether while I "refuel". I don't even try to break the stand-off with cards. I use my art supplies---learning watercolor was what I did for awhile. Right now I've got an oil painting to do on a big cross-cut saw for my brother so I'm doing some studies and planning for what that will entail. Going on walks, reading non-Tarot stuff, writing, and other things that will use my right brain on other things besides Tarot and divination in general is always good. I tend to be a hermit by nature so make myself get out and talk to real people every day. That's the one that I often find the hardest. Especially in this cold weather. Once the fatigue passes, I actually seem to be hungry to get back to the cards. What's important for me is to just chill and not try to force the issue. You never lose the ability to read so there's no need to get worried about losing the ability. Just let it be and do other things. If you stress that you'll forget, trust me---you won't forget any more than you forget how to talk if you don't talk for awhile. Thank you, Grizabella[/member] . I'm a bit of a hermit too, so I get what you're saying about talking to other people (that seems to be a trend among tarot people). When I get Tarot fatigue, I worry not only that I'll lose my ability, but that I never had any ability in the first place. It's reassuring to hear that I can pick up where I left off.

That's a really good idea - I tend to stick with a reading until I can make some kind of sense out of it, but it sometimes turns out to be nonsense!. I like the idea of putting it aside for a while, and trying again when my mind is fresh.
DanielJUK Posted January 16, 2019 Posted January 16, 2019 I think everyone does! I think this occurs in 3 different ways.... 1/ deck reading fatigue - you just get tired of doing readings, probably you use one deck or a few same decks all the time. There are two solutions to this, have a rest and total break or shake it all up, change how you are using divination! new deck, new method, use it differently! 2/ divination fatigue - sometimes you just get tired of the whole area. This is more dangerous as some people have entirely quit tarot communities / forums and stopped doing it! With this, it's a good idea to have a break. Often this happens when you are dealing with stuff in your life or maybe you have mental health problems. I think this is more about burn out by so many things happening, so take a rest from divination. You can come back to it anytime! It's sad when people entirely pack it up with this but you can take a break as long as you want. 3/ reading for others fatigue - If I do a lot of readings for other people (or sometimes on one topic for myself), I start to burn out. I love reading for other people and helping people but if I do too many readings dealing with other's problems it exhausts me. I know I can only really do one detailed reading a day for someone or a few smaller readings. The people I know who are professional readers, tend to space out readings as well so they have a rest. The answer to this one is taking breaks, having a rest and doing fewer readings for others if you need more time away from tarot. Also you can be affected by other people's energy when you are very sensitive or empathetic. The answer to that is to look at grounding / meditation techniques. Drink more water, carry gem stones / crystals that protect or shield you more. We all get fatigue though, so just go at your own level. You often see people here having a month out of the forum for a rest!

I do use mostly the same decks all the time, so it's probably time to start using the ones that I've hardly ever used before. I did have a bit of divination fatigue, but it's already starting to fade. And I tend to do readings one right after the other, so spacing them out sounds like a really good idea!
HermitWriter Posted January 18, 2019 Posted January 18, 2019 I've definitely gotten Tarot fatigue. There's absolutely nothing wrong with taking some time away for self-care, and the passion does come back. I try to look at it the same way as writers' block. It usually means the well is dry, and I need to take some time to let things refill and percolate a bit. Of course major life crises will have a bigger impact, but even just day-to-day stuff can wear you down. Some days, when work has been a bear, and I still have 1,001 chores todo, and a deadline to hit, and a story to edit, etc. etc. etc., I'm just out of gas. I've learned (hopefully) to be ok with letting some things wait a day or two. Sometimes, that means my deck goes unshuffled. Other times, throwing a tarot spread provides a lovely 20 minutes of peace. I don't read professionally yet, but even then, it's important to take self-care into account. Most "regular" day jobs account for days off, so there isn't any reason you shouldn't do the same with your practice if you're a professional. It's a common trap for writers to fall into as well, the mindset of "produce words all day every day!" Anyway, I hope you're feeling refreshed and renewed. And if you need more time to get there, that's a-okay!

I think taking time off from the cards has really helped. I'm not a professional reader, but I think I was trying to do too much Tarot stuff at once - so a few days off really helped!
Iekthecat Posted January 22, 2019 Posted January 22, 2019 Sometimes I’m just done for the night, nothing goes in or out and I don’t feel like Reading cards and that’s fine. I never pushed it and after a couple hours or day everything is ‘clear’ again.
EmpressAdora Posted January 22, 2019 Posted January 22, 2019 I get really bad headaches if I read too much.
