So I was shuffling my new oracle deck today and a card fell out from it?

Does this card have a significance for me?

I had read somewhere that cards that drop from the deck while shuffling carry a message with them for the reader...not sure if it is true?

Please help understand this

I set them aside and consider them energy cards, telling me what energy I'm bringing to the reading (consciously or subconsciously) that might color the selection and/or reading of the cards. They're extremely helpful, although, for me, it rarely happens. Others may feel they have different significance. I think you have to work with the cards for awhile and figure out what it means for you, in particular.

EDIT: I should say that when I first started with Oracle cards especially, I used to think the card that fell out was the "real' message regardless of what I drew. I later realized it was my own energy kind of expelling itself as I shuffled. I only figured that out after recording my readings and going back through them with later insight.

Day Soleil[/member] Thank you for your inputs, just to add, it was the first time ever I was touching this deck. It’s was just me trying to activate it. Really not setting it for a reading. And strangely the card that popped out was completely opposite of the state I am in right now. I can choose to ignore the card but still wanted to be sure if it has any significance or meaning for me 😊

For me they're just fumbles. I just pick them up and put them back in the deck.

The cards are wonderful and awe-inspiring but the magic is in us, not the cards. No outside spirits or forces do anything and the cards don't have a mind of their own. I know it seems like the opposite is true and nobody has ever figured out exactly why they work but they do in combination with the reader. However, we can't give our power away to some spirit who is supposedly causing the cards to move on their own. The magic works best when we listen to the little voice of intuition when we're looking at the images.

l have had cards popping out whilst shuffling, l make a note of the card put it back in the pack, carry on shuffling,  and if it appears in the reading it does want to be heard.

Often I felt it was me not shuffling properly and it confused me. So what I do now is, I decide before I start shuffling what to do with the ones that fall out. So I would say while shuffling 'I do not even look at the ones falling out'....

I rely on intuition for things like this quite a lot.  As Grizabella says I see most of them as just a fumble or clumsy shuffle and I'll put them back in the pile without looking to see which card it is.  Sometimes, though, one will fall exactly where I lay my cards and if it feels like, yeah, that one REALLY wants to be there I'll take it as the card that was meant to be there.

Do what feels right for you!

For me, when I do readings I usually only use the cards that fall out. From personal experience I have found these cards to be the most pertinent to the reading. So I will keep shuffling until I have the number of cards I need or no more fall out or the number of cards starts getting too much, sometimes changing decks if I feel the need. I try to listen to my intuition as much as I can.

I don't really ascribe to any hard and fast rules of reading, so what I do changes depending on what I feel appropriate in the moment.

Do you feel like the card that fell out held any significance? If so, then try looking a bit deeper at the card. Sometimes the meaning may not be obvious straight away. If you feel like it was just a card that escaped while shuffling then put it back and carry on. It's entirely up to you to decide how much meaning you give it if any at all :)

I definitely use the card that falls out, but only if its one, which it mostly is.

Sometimes I clarify further with new cards or if I was planning on to do a bigger spread, I use it as the first card/core card.

I'm a clumsy shuffler, so unless I'm getting a really strong vibe to look at the card, it goes back in and I chalk it up to having small hands! :)

I'm a very clumsy shuffler so I regularly have cards that fly out. I go with my gut/intuition when it comes to applying the card(s) to my reading. Sometimes I just put them back in the deck and keep shuffling as normal.

Sometimes when I put them back into the deck and keep shuffling, those same cards that went flying out show up when I draw the card(s) for my reading.

Trust and go with what feels right for you. You'll know

I look at the card, and if I feel like it's the right one, I put it down. 90% of the time I end up using the card that fell out, but sometimes it's just not the card I need.

Now I don't pay too much attention to falling cards. If there's only one I look at it an if it reappears in the reading I pay extra attention to it. If there's more than 1 card that fall, I pay no intention at all and put them back in the deck.

I used to attribute meaning to fallen or flipped or jumping cards. And then my hands got terrible somehow and now cards fly everywhere and I don't bother unless it literally screams "read me! read me!" when I pick it up :P

Yes, if I have a "jumper", I take it seriously.  Oddly enough, I'd agree with Grizabella that the magic is in us and not in the cards - but I've reached the opposite conclusion!  ;D.  For me, all the cards in a spread are there by random chance - so the ones that I've dropped are equally random and equally worth considering.

That said, if I drop half the deck, I won't spend three days trying to do a 36 card reading!  :)

I love this idea. One of the regular gods I work with is fond of throwing things when divining things. I've always paid attention to fallen cards because of that.

Ha! Love this! I had the silliest mental picture when I read this of a bearded someone standing over your shoulder and reaching over every now and then while you're mid shuffle to pull cards and throw them like a toddler throwing a tantrum XD

Not the most dignified of things to do but I'm pretty sure it's something Dionysius/Baccus would get a giggle out of trying! XD
