Eric13 Posted February 6, 2019 Posted February 6, 2019 I'm leaning more and more towards this myself. I know the minors and court cards, even Ace's have their place, it the Major Arcana's I find myself only drawn to towards answering the question, the metaphors and even the numerical values with their numerical partners. Numbers are very important to me, but not so much with the minors. I feel a master can advise more clearly that that's the way to be what you are, that's the spiritual exercise you have to do better with the Majors.
tag Jorrit Posted February 6, 2019 Posted February 6, 2019 I lost interest in tarot for many years and returned to cards when I discovered Lenormand. After learning Lenormand and its language I found that, within the context of questions that are posed, 36 cards are more than adequate. Then I began to become interested in Marseille tarot and for me the 22 majors work great.
Saturn Celeste Posted February 6, 2019 Posted February 6, 2019 I'm leaning more and more towards this myself. tag Jorrit[/member] Hey! Nice to see you here! X/ Joe, when I was learning tarot I soaked up the minor arcana like air and learned it very quickly. But what I did have trouble with was the Major arcana so I went through a period of time where I just read the majors. As I got better with the majors I then added the Aces because they were not my strongest cards and as I learned them I eventually added the courts. Once I was confident reading these cards, I tossed in the minors which I felt the most comfortable with and before I knew it was was reading all 78 cards!
Eric13 Posted February 7, 2019 Author Posted February 7, 2019 Great and interesting answers. Thank you. I think the Ace's work in well with the Majors too. I feel the numbers on the Majors could also represent the same as the minors, as well as their paired cards. Ex: 2 and 12 and so on, or 6 being about a restoration of balance and harmony, persevering.
Raggydoll Posted February 7, 2019 Posted February 7, 2019 I’ve also heard people saying they only use the majors, the courts and the aces. I personally prefer to use the whole deck but I have done majors only readings (usually with marseille style decks).
Thoughtful Posted February 7, 2019 Posted February 7, 2019 I’ve also heard people saying they only use the majors, the courts and the aces. I personally prefer to use the whole deck but I have done majors only readings (usually with marseille style decks). l have only ever used the full 78 cards, but l am intrigued to know if you feel you can get a full reading from just the Majors. In fact l will have give it a try.
Saturn Celeste Posted February 7, 2019 Posted February 7, 2019 l have only ever used the full 78 cards, but l am intrigued to know if you feel you can get a full reading from just the Majors. In fact l will have give it a try. Sure you can! You'll get an all majors reading! Even with 6 cards, you can do some form of reading. It won't be a 78 tarot deck reading but it will be for the query that was asked the 6 cards. There are still decks being printed that are majors only. Personally I used it as a tool to learn. It really helped me reading it 'stripped' down. I didn't have to do it for long and when I did read other people I told them that the minor arcana was not included in the reading. But the readings went very well.
Thoughtful Posted February 8, 2019 Posted February 8, 2019 Most people l read for choose to have a general reading which l like doing. Most of the questions they have in mind get answered with the full deck. Just wanted to ask if the Majors covered all issues for a general reading i.e. work, stress, fears, house moves, why didn't l get job, etc. l suppose the best answer is to try it all out on a willing family member ;D before l do this with my reading clients.
DanielJUK Posted February 8, 2019 Posted February 8, 2019 I have done only Majors readings for myself and there used to be an occasional Majors reading circle on AT. For me they are concentrated, "destined" readings. They were very powerful for me but I wouldn't like to do every reading like that. I think the mundane of life with the Minors adds balance to the reading. There is a place for Majors readings, like if someone wants to know their destiny or for a karmic message or an important message directly from the universe but in most readings I think the Minors add a dilution of the earth to a spiritual message, make it easier to take and reflect our day to day living. For day to day readings I would personally find Major only readings too strong to take in constantly, they seem to throw really deep stuff at me, so I do it occasionally and use it when I want that kind of reading. I strongly believe in finding methods that work for us in readings so if you like the readings with it, that's great
Flaxen Posted February 8, 2019 Posted February 8, 2019 I like doing Majors only readings - especially when I use my TdM or other historical tarot decks. There are a few spreads I particularly like: 3 cards in a line - does exactly what it says on the tin. :) I like to use directionality to help with these readings - who's looking where can be very illuminating. Pyramid Spread - Mary K. Greer has an excellent post about it on her blog: https://marykgreer.com/2018/08/27/the-cadillac-of-readings-the-pyramid-spread/ Tirage en Croix - this is a great workhorse spread and can be used for many issues. http://www.tarotforum.net/showthread.php?t=79794
Thoughtful Posted February 8, 2019 Posted February 8, 2019 Thanks for the links Flaxen, l will try those out, and also Daniel for your comments  Think l will use the Majors for myself only, and carry on shuffling and reading with the full deck for others readings. Its what l am used to.
Cobweb Posted February 10, 2019 Posted February 10, 2019 I haven't done a majors only reading for ages but I found it really helpful when I first started out. I read only with the majors until I was confident I knew them all and then I started to add in other cards... can't remember now what I added in next, though! I figure you can get a perfectly good reading with just the majors. After all, isn't the whole of life supposed to be set out in the fool's journey? :) In fact, I'm feeling inspired to go away and try it again...
Eric13 Posted February 11, 2019 Author Posted February 11, 2019 I'm feeling that two decks of using only the Majors will give a good thorough reading. I need to have someone where I live best a tester for this.
Asher Posted February 12, 2019 Posted February 12, 2019 I do read with the Majors, when I feel like using some of my wonderful Majors-only decks. My readings are usually thorough, and I use smaller spreads. I did an online webinar a few years ago on Majors-only readings, taught by Rachel Pollack. She was great and led us through spreads from the mundane to the spiritual. So, for me, I feel I can read on any question with just the Major Arcana. Think I’ll use them for my reading today!
