Tiggy-cat Posted February 9, 2019 Posted February 9, 2019 Hi all! A question: Does anyone else have the “Infamous Dollar Tree Tarot” deck? I was lucky enough to get one years ago from someone on another forum but I’ve always wondered...there are Aces but no pips 2-7. Only 8-10, then Royals and Majors. Is this a defective set, or is the deck just so weird and cheesy that all of them were made that way? I actually really like the illustrations on it and have considered making my own missing pips, since the artwork would lend itself pretty well to that.
DanielJUK Posted February 10, 2019 Posted February 10, 2019 A friend in America on AT sent me this deck with another deck I bought from her years ago, I really wanted it for it's legendary and cheap status and we don't have Dollar Tree here! This deck should be 78 cards but they notoriously left out a whole collection of numbers in some decks. If you browse this old thread discussing the deck on AT here as the pages go on, people start complaining of missing cards in the deck. What is weird is that it's a whole sequence that is missing, one person all the 1's another 7's and 8's, all 4 would be missing! One person used two decks to make one complete deck. So it was so cheap that it seems most of the decks had missing sequences in assembly! I wonder if any deck was ever full of 78 cards! hmmm I am going to go and look through mine now to see what is missing :) Maybe see if you can buy a second to complete it or the missing cards are part of the charm! <3
DanielJUK Posted February 10, 2019 Posted February 10, 2019 reading all the posts carefully, as well as loads of incomplete decks. There was only 70 cards, Aces and 1's (separately) and no 8's, 9's and 10's! As Le Fanu quoted then, "70 tarot cards and 8 instruction cards = 78!" If you have different cards to that who knows. Each deck was a random surprise!
DownUnderNZer Posted February 10, 2019 Posted February 10, 2019 I bought two of those and saw one of them recently (still unopened) when I was hunting down other decks. Not sure where that other is though, but it was opened. I did like it! I think with my move a few years ago some decks went MIA. Mind you, I do still have stored boxes that I have never opened, so... DND X/ PS I didn't know each deck could be different or missing anything. I didnt read that AT thread.
Tiggy-cat Posted February 10, 2019 Author Posted February 10, 2019 This is all very interesting to know, thank you! I believe mine has Aces and ONLY numbers 7-10, so it’s missing all the 2’s thru 6’s. Sounds like it might be worth putting out a call to anyone with a different incomplete deck who wants to sell it to get mine complete. I do like the artwork but I’ve never used it.
gregory Posted February 10, 2019 Posted February 10, 2019 The original deck had no 8s, 9s or 10s - exactly as Daniel says. Mine has: majors, courts and aces and 1-7 of each suit, + 8 cards with positional indications like "your wish". I never heard of one the other way round. It wasn't incomplete as such, it was just "different". But if you want the whole thing, there's also a coloured version that has everything, from Fantasma Toys. I got mine from a magic shop in London, UK http://www.fantasmatoys.com Sadly they don't seem to be listed there any more. But they are on Amazon UK: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Fantasma-FAN070-12-Wishcraft-Tarot-Cards/dp/B00CL10NDK and US: https://www.amazon.com/Wishcraft-Tarot-Cards-marked-Fantasma/dp/B00ANXQ0CG
Tiggy-cat Posted February 11, 2019 Author Posted February 11, 2019 Interesting, thank you! Wow, $17 instead of $1. I wonder though if this set really does have all of its cards?
