Hi,

I've been using Biddy online to look up meanings for Tarot and sometimes look up Youtube videos for individual cards, but I was wondering if anyone knows a great website for real noobs like me to learn Tarot? xP

I'm looking for free tarot guide sites, even if it's from a blogger, and cheap, but effective tarot books. But I can't read wordy or high vocabulary books...my attention span sometimes shuts off or fly away, unfortunately... I'm someone that learns best when it affects my emotions...But I don't think there are tarot guidebooks like that lol, but I'm just looking for a good cheap guide for beginners that also talks about reversals.

And if a book mentions 6 of cups as being a past life connection because I believe in that strongly and it has rung true for me so far.

I know I can search it out myself, but I wanted to know what has worked for you individually? I would like to compile them and see which would be good for me ^-^

I found 21 Ways To Read a Tarot Card by Mary K Greer to be invaluable. It's broken into chapters with based around activities that teach you to read the cards you as you see them, unread of solely memorizing meanings.

I used learntarot.com (it's still up) when I first got into card meanings. That was a very long time ago...

I liked it because I used to memorize the keywords next to the card images. I'm very visual so that was very helpful. I could actually see which of those keywords were "heavier" on that page, so it made it very easy for "hacking" readings a bit if I were stuck as a newbie. It gave me a clue of sorts and that helped me to learn the typical "behavior"/energy of each card in a reading setting in it's various forms.

I learned using the Golden Thread Tarot App (available for androids and apples): https://goldenthreadtarot.com.  I liked the simplicity of the card drawings and keywords.  The full tarot meanings are available here: https://labyrinthos.co/blogs/tarot-card-meanings-list.  As for topsy-turvy world of tarot reversals, I found the following webpage helpful: http://blog.littleredtarot.com/13-unconventional-ways-reading-reversals.  I hope you find some helpful sources Soul Light!!! <3 <3 <3

There's Dusty White's tarot site at Easy Tarot Lessons.

He wrote the book "The Easiest Way to Learn the Tarot" which is available in Kindle format.

And he has a free tarot course as well.

I have his book but I got it well after I'd learned how to use Tarot. It looks good, flicking through it, and he advocates building a personal relationship with the cards, linking them to your own experiences.

I also recommend this.  It is a workbook and it allows you to learn as well as develop your intuition and confidence in your own intuition.  It is a resource that can apply to any deck with illustrated pip cards.  It is also takes you through a wonderful personal journey and helps you determine what learning techniques work best for you.  You get to play with the cards, learn the cards, and bond with the cards.

Wow

Thanks guys! These suggestions are perfect!!

Now to compile them and do a quick lookie at each one.

There was this site called https://thesimpletarot.com that I was looking at recently, I was wondering if anyone's given it a try? Is it a good stepping stone for learning tarot? I didn't want to go in depth with it because I was worried it was too limiting. Especially since they're not Rider Waite cards.

Ohhhh I also wanted to suggest What's In The Cards For You by Mark McElroy - it has exercises to do for 30 days and is fun and practical.  The exercises do not take long and help you associate Tarot with everyday life.  Another book that gave me some good "Aha!" moments was Tarot Tells the Tale by James Ricklef.  His writing is really engaging as if you were sitting with a friend with a great sense of humor discussing tarot.

Thanks for more suggestions! i'll also take a look a them as well!

So far, I've only took a quick scan at the ones with web links and I'm really interested in https://labyrinthos.co/ and the easytarotlessons site by Dusty. I think it would be interesting to pair up with a buddy or a group to do tarot reading.  ^-^

I've enjoyed Daily Tarot Girl's YouTube channel, which usually leads me down a rabbit hole of other suggested videos. I think hers in particular is good for beginners, especially the playlist she has for learning tarot.

As far as books go, I'll go ahead and admit it: "The Complete Idiot's Guide to Tarot" and "Tarot for Dummies" were two of my first tarot books (the latter came with my first deck). I referred to the "Idiot's Guide" for a long time, because it really did present things simply and clearly. I currently really love "The Marseilles Tarot Revealed" by Yoav Ben-Doav. I'm not 100% sure that's a good book for beginners, but if you're interested in Marseilles decks, it's a great resource.

I definitely second (or third) anything by Mary K. Greer as well as Rachel Pollack. Theirs are usually among the (sometimes few) books that most libraries seem to have. Rachel Pollack's "Complete Illustrated Guide to Tarot" is also currently available used on Amazon for about $10 including shipping.

It can take almost as much time to connect with tarot guides as it does to connect with tarot decks, so don't get too discouraged if one book or author doesn't jive with you. There are many resources out there!

Wonderful thread and great suggestions. I tend to go all out, check out every book our library has and then become overwhelmed 😳

I like the biddy site as well. For books I love 78 Degrees of Wisdom by Rachel Pollack and anything by Mary Greer. Really like Tarot for Your Self.  I just checked out Learning the Tarot by Joan Bunning and it seems like it will be a nice read as well.
