DoNotDelete Posted March 17, 2019 Posted March 17, 2019 Hi all. X/ I did a reading and as I picked 9 of swords, I got the intuitive thought "friend". Can 9 of swords really symbolize a friend? I thought of my best friend Paul. Can he be in some sort of trouble without me knowing it? Should I text him and ask if he need my help? (we normally don't talk about emotional issues). I'm thinking this silly thought that maybe he needs help with a riddle or an enigma? Or is it so that 9 of swords - that I've learned is a negative card - actually can be a friend? I'm so eager to find this out. I have such thirst for tarot knowledge. :bugeyed:
Bluelagune Posted March 17, 2019 Posted March 17, 2019 What was the question before you drawn your card?
DoNotDelete Posted March 18, 2019 Posted March 18, 2019 What was the question before you drawn your card? No specific. I also thought that it might have been related to earlier discussions here at the forum - that something was lagging so to speak.
Bluelagune Posted March 18, 2019 Posted March 18, 2019 First, you need a question for drawing cards. Otherwise (1) it don't mean anything and (2) just thinking about a broad topic would give your subconscious too broad of an answer. So be very specific in your question. Good luck! And welcome to the forum. X/

And welcome to the forum. X/ I disagree completely! In my personal readings, I rarely have a question. Sometimes I do get a broad response - like, my deck is saying here's a universal energy you need to be aware of, in both yourself and your surroundings. Sometimes it's gets VERY specific to somwthing pertinent in my life. I honestly only use specfic questions with client readings, but not my own.
Bluelagune Posted March 18, 2019 Posted March 18, 2019 libra[/member] - I don't want to get hand slapped again for overrunning thread, can you explain for your draws? Koblo[/member] - is it still lagging or you found your answer?

Some people don't like to cry and always push worries aside, but I think it really helps if you sometimes just let it all out. Its such an important part of healing. The message for me could be "crying is your friend" cause you might feel better and consoled afterwards. OR one of your friends is in trouble at the time, and this is some sort of message that got to your subconcious?

And welcome to the forum. X/ I never have a question. But koblo - have you considered getting a mentor ? You seem to have a lot of questions about individual cards, and a mentor could help with that. Card meanings can be hugely variable, depending on context. I would wonder, here, if you find friendships difficult (I know someone who does, and it is a terrible strain on him...)

Card meanings can be hugely variable, depending on context. I think this is an excellent suggestion! A mentor will help you to build a solid foundation of understanding for the tarot tradition as well as to be more confident in listening to your own intuition.
Tulirose Posted March 22, 2019 Posted March 22, 2019 The Nine of Swords is not only a negative card (I have read over and over) but it is also "the worst card in the Deck" I have read in several texts by some of the heavy hitter Tarot names. The 'Nightmare' card is even worse than the ten of Swords because the thought of all the bad things that can/may/will happen is worse than the 'after-event' symbolized by the Ten of Swords; when your already 'dead'-metaphorically speaking (or not) then what else worse can happen? Maybe you have strong empathy for this person and intuition kicked in about a situation related to them, which seems to have been your first response from the way you tell it. OR maybe this person represents a threat to you that you have yet to internalize, or, you have never put such a thought into your own words to your self, so to speak.
Sunny Posted February 3, 2020 Posted February 3, 2020 Well it depends of how you did the question. As a person, an anxious person As a impact that comes from a person means they will cause you frustration, overthinking and anxiety too. Not a nice state. If you asked what kind of friend...? I would go for the second one, because they will impact you as a friend in that way.

There's waaaaay too much emphasis on the person in the card being in their own self-imposed mental prison. They can't stop to appreciate ANYTHING positive around them, because all they're preoccupied with is the negative. And if not, they'll find a way to do it at some point because they secretly thrive on drama. If they don't know how to be a kind "friend" to themselves, how can they be expected to be one to anyone else? Just no, no, no all around.
Grizabella Posted February 7, 2020 Posted February 7, 2020 The 9 of Swords could mean a premonition. For example, couldn't it be said that the 9 of Swords is having a premonition about the 10 of Swords? A premonition of---say---a spinal cord injury or even a murder? Or foreshadowing a "friend" stabbing you in the back?

and_it_spoke Posted February 8, 2020 Posted February 8, 2020 What if we turned this around: @DoNotDelete, you drew the 9 of swords and thought, 'friend'. Have you been the best friend you could be? OR do you subconsciously worry that you haven't been? One way to look at the 9 of swords is a recollection of past grief or regrets (Swords, knowledge, a distraught person apparently waking - dreams and subconscious alerting them to a past trauma or misdeed). Possibly in your subconscious, you know the friend has had some trouble you opted not to assist with or otherwise ignored the issue. So you see this card and it evokes thoughts of this friend but your subconscious feelings. It could be a prompt to evaluate how you handle and prioritize friendships *OR* an overactive sense of duty and obligation. You've got a lot of valid insight here from possible meanings, to ways that may work best for you to utilize tarot. I hope everything is OK and maybe some of this insight helped out.
