Aspen Sage Posted March 25, 2019 Posted March 25, 2019 So, I understand the nature of the elements and how they pertain to the suits. I understand which elements are complimentary and which are opposing, but what does that actually mean? My readings have been fairly balanced in terms of elements up until this point. Today I did a Celtic Cross spread which was about half and half, fire and water. I know those two elements as being opposing, weakening each other and resulting in steam. But what the heck does that actually mean? What is being weakened or strengthened exactly? Is it a cause for conflict? How does one interpret the positions of the cards vs. the elements that they are presenting in terms of their interactions? Does anyone have clarity in how to better understand these elemental interactions? Thanks!
Guest D76 Posted March 25, 2019 Posted March 25, 2019 Hi, Aspen Sage. I will try to briefly explain this, but I am not sure that my english will be good understandable (this theme are specific, difficult to be translated correctly). Fire and air - yang, bright, male, light. Their natural place is on top, periphery (levitation) Water and earth - yin, female, heavy. Their natural place is the on the bottom, center (gravity). О.k….WATER and FIRE…..(not “vs.”, but “and” !). This opposition is not a CONFLICT! This is a special type of harmony. This is ACTIVITY, when two elements of different nature into the process of mixing. This is similar to the alchemical process. Thus, the “Masculine” sees himself as "activity", and (in the same time) perceives the “Feminine” only as "passivity". In the aggregate (complex) this pair gives a purely functional view of development (of growth, evolution) - the "active" makes MOVE (activates, push) the "passive". On the other hand, the “Feminine” sees himself as a "potentiality", and (in the same time) perceives the “Masculine” only as "relevance". In the aggregate, this pair gives a purely structural view of development (growth, evolution) - the "potential" BEGINS (or beget..) the "ACTUAL". This is very productive “relationships”…- something harmonious can be born ... -------------- Much worse (can be) when related (allied) elements begin to interact Air and Fire together can give over-aggression ... Water and the Earth together can giv stagnation...
Aspen Sage Posted March 26, 2019 Author Posted March 26, 2019 Oh wow, thank you! That's quite helpful. The reading was beautiful and this ads quite an interesting dimension to it! The books I have barely touch on elemental dignitaries and don't really go into alchemical interactions at all. Are there some books or good on-line resources that you would recommend to learn more?
