I guess I get to have the privilege of breaking the ice in the Using Tarot forum! (It actually makes me nervous, in spite of how much I would "talk" before. ;))

My daily reading on my eating urges (yes, I still have to deal with that ... especially with the recent loss of our AT home), I had the Queen of Swords for my "Issue" card. I'm using the Karma Tarot and am attaching a photo so you can see her. Here's my thoughts on the card (transcribed from my notes);

Controlling my "energy". Not just "control", but directing it in a positive manner. The card has a lion and the word "LEO" which is, of course, my sign. The woman is contemplating her image in the mirror - shi is partly exposed which indicates she's looking deep? I need to use my spirit to direct my physical self, keeping positive control of my eating & health. Her clothing seems ragged and torn, indicating past hardships.

I'd like to hear what your own takes might be on this?

And ... I'm not finding a way to attach the photo I took, so I'll have to add that a bit later.

WOW!  I just was going to send you this big big reply and my log out time ran out and it all went into the abyss!  So, I will try to recreate the wonderful answer I had for you.  It won't be the same I'm sure.  Since you decided to break the ice I thought you deserved a reply.  I personally think The Queen of Wands can do anything.  But since we are talking issues, she does have a few.  She is great at getting things started but she doesn't always finish them.  It's because she has already started something else.  But she is a very determined person.

I would suggest beefing up your determination.  She is a very good organizer and planner so as an issue you might want to focus on planning and organizing meals, ect... The way you described your Queen of Wands looking in the mirror tells a lot about her personality.  She does care about how she looks and enjoys walking into a room and watching heads turn.  I know a few Leo's, and even though I don't like to group people together, I love them.  When I have a party I always invite my Leo friends because I know they can keep the party going.

Maybe (as a Leo) she's telling you to use those Leo 'fixed', and determined qualities  for good, not evil!

I can relate to this card as I'm a female Leo too, to me a positive Queen of wands would be using all that fiery energy, pride and determination to look after herself and take pride in herself, including her physical self.

Perhaps the 'looking deep' is to look deep into the real cause of your urges?

I have little experience with tarot and feel like I'm stating the obvious here, so feel free to ignore!  ;D

Okay ... a quick (relatively) reply; After trying to figure out where an image might be found, or how to attach one ... I did an image search and found that the Queen of Wands is one of the sample cards on the Aeclectic Tarot listing of the deck! Dur! http://www.aeclectic.net/tarot/cards/karma/

Thanks MagicJack! This really fits I think. I do tend to be rather lax about organizing meals so that I stick to a better regimen. My main focus has been avoiding sweets (which I have done well with), but sometimes still not great at having things ready when I go to work and just grabbing whatever or stopping for takeout on the way to work. Excellent input (it went into my notebook)!

Also excellent input Amethyst Indigo! Yes, I've been thinking lately about deeper exploration of the roots of all of this. I think that's why my mind went there with this card. But Courts are frequently difficult for me, partly because there are so many ways they can go, and often (as I think is the case here) they can go several ways at once! And you may lack "experience", but I'd say you certainly have good intuition and understanding! Thanks for your help as well.

I like the looking at the real cause of the urges, with the mirror, I'd say- what is it your seeking outwardly and find that in yourself. Her breast is bared- these are life giving, nurturing. Is there a lack of sustinence in your life? What would feed your ego? Leo is tied to ego ( so how would you feed that positively to build up self esteem? Or self love?) there is a dichotomy within society- women's breasts are sexualized over their real intention of feeding life. So I'd say reflect on the areas that you feel may be misunderstood or misrepresented in your self and in your outward life. Cheers :)

I just remembered I was going to let you know that, when you log in, there's a check-box to keep you logged in, essentially forever. That way you don't get logged out mid-reply. :D

Hmm. Yes, also thought provoking. It has occurred to me that I'm trying to "feed" some part of me with over-eating. I think this especially applies to sweets, as I've heard that they are known to produce endorphins. Thanks so much for the input.

The Queen of Wands often comes up as a significator for me, and I identify with a lot of her qualities (not all though, I'm no extrovert). But I'm very impulsive, like to get things done, indomitable when I put my mind to it. But I start more projects than I finish and I can also have bad eating habits. It's something to with with needing instant gratification and I think that's why I buy so many decks too -  the mood strikes, and before I know it, I leap into action. Same goes for the snacks. These qualities can be brilliant for making things happen, but there is a kind of thrill chasing side of the Queen that can lead to overindulgence.

The looking in the mirror and her bared breast in the card sounds to me like this Queen of Wands is more than capable of being truly honest with herself. She's a really strong character, and by reflecting with real truth and candour, and truly knowing what is in her heart,  she can overcome her weaknesses. So another perspective on this is to be really honest with yourself and reflect on why you crave when you do. And why you give into cravings. If you can expose what is behind this you may have the clues to solving it.

Hmm. Yes, this definitely fits in with my initial thoughts and expands them quite a lot. And fits in with how I've been approaching things lately. I've been using the Tarot quite a lot to work through the problem on a daily basis. And, this card seems to be pushing me a little more to start delving deeper into the issues. Thanks CharlotteK

And since we can do attachments, I've included a photo of the card so you all can have a better look.

It's so hard to look at ourself clearly and wade past that voice in our head that keeps on chattering and prevents us from just getting to the meat of the matter. It isn't so deep that you have to go but the ability to shove all of the periphery of emotions out of the way until we find the ability to say "wait a minute, what am I doing to myself here." Leo's love all of the activity around them. That means that you'll hang on to all the activity at the conscious level and forget to shed that and hit the "go" button to bring the unconscious thinking forward. That mirror is focused on what you can see on the surface of your reflection. If all of that surface stuff could be stuffed into a trunk, what is left? Make your decisions about honoring your body with your spirit. It won't lie to you and talk you out of things. What you look like in the mirror isn't what really matters is it? The Queen of Wands is the queen of inspiration. She has the ability to motivate you into action because something stirs inside of you. She knows how to light a fire under things that need attention.

Wow! Thanks MM! That is some real food for thought and contemplation! You're right about "watching" the surface things, the activity around the issue. The surface thoughts can definitely be a distraction as can the peripheral emotions. In fact, that's one of the reasons that I do these readings so I can cut through that and keep focused on a daily basis - cause that's what it takes. But I can see how this QW is pointing me towards cutting through the mental fluff.

Thanks very much!

Hello Trogon,

I think the Queen knows she's a Queen, and therefore she knows she can have anything she wants, and the Wands are impulsive Fire. So whenever you pass a convenience store or fast food place, especially one that has food 'roasting' on a split (is that what those things are called that keeps the food going round and round?), then the Queen of Wands says "stop and go in, I want some of that"!

I am not familiar with this deck, and I realize that it has it's charms to it's fans, but forgive me, I see a Lion roasting on a split in this Queen of Wands and she is dreaming about it while at the same time looking at herself like, "what the heck am I doing".

Yeah! That's me alright. There's a barbecue place on the main north/south street ... it drives me nuts every time I drive by because it smells SOOOO good! ;D Denying my Queen of Wands is quite difficult at times. But, we're getting there. And your comment on the Lion made me laugh!

Oh, and the spear part that goes through the meat is called a "spit", and the mechanism that makes it go around is called a "rotisserie". I love the one I have for my gas grill. Hmmm ... now I want to cook a roast ...

A roast sounds healthy and if you passed the delicious smell place to cook at home-you must winning the tussle with that Queen!

Hope it was delicious and also made a bunch of sandwiches you could take to work :D
