Minerva Posted March 30, 2019 Posted March 30, 2019 Hi all! what are peoples opinions on spreads that have mostly reversed cards. For example, a 7 card spread for a relationships. 5 out of the 7 reversed, but with the outcome card being the wheel of fortune, upright. regards Minerva
Jewel Posted April 2, 2019 Posted April 2, 2019 Without knowing the whole spread it is hard to formulate an opinion.
Saturn Celeste Posted April 2, 2019 Posted April 2, 2019 Hi all! what are peoples opinions on spreads that have mostly reversed cards. Whenever I get a question about reversals is how did the reader handle the reversals. Then I question how well they were shuffled. If this all checks out then many reversals would indicate something is going on in the sitters life.
Minerva Posted April 2, 2019 Author Posted April 2, 2019 "Without knowing the whole spread it is hard to formulate an opinion. " Yes apologies, more information would be better!!

Yes I see that it is useful to use a process or check list when you come up with something that stumps you. In this situation the cards referred to a love interest of the sitter. The cards referring to the love interest were VIII wand reversed, VI wands reversed, Death reversed and X wands reversed followed by the Wheel of Fortune. My interpretation was that a period of disappointments, blockages and obstacles was finished and that a new chapter of life would begin.

Morsoth Posted April 4, 2019 Posted April 4, 2019 Reversals are tricky. I personally always ignore the reversal meaning and read the card for what it is instead. Reversals is still a modern thing. However, I've read in a book (by Benebell Wen or Mary K. Greer?) that there is four ways to interprets a reversed card, which can be memorized by WIND (Weakened, Inverted, Negative Influences, Delay): W Weakened energy of card meaning due to being overpowered by other forces I Inverted meaning of card, i.e., the opposite of what the card would mean upright N Negative influences on the querent (most notably in court cards; think N for nobility) D Delay before outcome will materialize. Not all factors have fully matured yet. So, I guess that it depends of the feeling you get in a reading.

Just curious. I know in the Book of Thoth Etteilla that Alliette uses reversals.
Morsoth Posted April 5, 2019 Posted April 5, 2019 Hmmm... Excellent question. If Etteilla/Alliette used the reversals (I have the book, but didn't catch that info), well, it means that it's older than I expected it! I have a pretty extensive timeline in a book I'm writing (kind of my own notes) but I must admit that I never found the "date" of the first usage of reversals. Anyway, I personally chose to not use reversals. 78 cards is more than enough for thousands of meanings, I don't need to reverse them and multiply all of the meanings again by 4! :D
