FLizarraga Posted April 15, 2019 Posted April 15, 2019 I wanted this gorgeous deck pretty badly when it first came out, but the price was out of my budget. And just now I discovered that Duck Soup is funding a second edition through Kickstarter: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1911920092/the-arthur-rackham-oracle-revised-and-refined-2nd?ref=user_menu Just so you guys know. I backed it myself, since the deck-only pledge is quite affordable.
TheFeeLion Posted April 16, 2019 Posted April 16, 2019 Omg! Gah! I really want this but will have to see if I can afford this later in the month
FLizarraga Posted April 17, 2019 Author Posted April 17, 2019 It is already fully funded --with still 25 days to go! So I have a feeling we will see all the upgrades, the two-piece box and the gold foil edges...
FLizarraga Posted April 21, 2019 Author Posted April 21, 2019 Well, whaddaya know? The first stretch goal (the two-piece box) was reached two days ago, and backers are about $250 away from getting the gold foil edges. I have a feeling funds will get there today or tomorrow.
Decan Posted April 21, 2019 Posted April 21, 2019 Interesting! I always found this Oracle very intriguing; I will consider this offer...
Thoughtful Posted April 21, 2019 Posted April 21, 2019 Oh l really want this delightful oracle. Been over to kick starter, and am l right that 1 deck is only $25 that seems to be very, very reasonable, it amounts to just £19 in sterling.

Oh, does it include international shipping? I know it includes domestic. Duck Soup's decks are nice, just too rich for my blood. But I have supported their last two Kickstarters, as they make decks affordable.
Thoughtful Posted April 21, 2019 Posted April 21, 2019 Ah yes postage it may be high to the UK, will have to investigate
Nordica De Spell Posted April 21, 2019 Posted April 21, 2019 International shipping isn’t included, but when you’re logged in to kickstarter and choose a pledge level, before you confirm the pledge, there will be a quote that include postage to your address/country.

With the shipping I don't know, but considering the price here, there won't be additional taxes at custom. At Duck Soup decks quality is very good.

Just had a look and the shipping is $24, as much as the deck :(
Decan Posted April 22, 2019 Posted April 22, 2019 Thoughtful[/member] Well, yes it's a bit discouraging I recognize...
Flaxen Posted April 22, 2019 Posted April 22, 2019 International shipping isn’t included, but when you’re logged in to kickstarter and choose a pledge level, before you confirm the pledge, there will be a quote that include postage to your address/country. Just had a look and the shipping is $24, as much as the deck :( It’s a lovely oracle but my experience is that in the UK, the customs declaration includes the cost of postage so that will push this item over the threshold. It’s very frustrating and has made many Kickstarter decks unaffordable now. :(
Thoughtful Posted April 22, 2019 Posted April 22, 2019 :( Such a shame but hey ho! One may came up on Ebay or Amazon later on.
Rupicapra Posted April 22, 2019 Posted April 22, 2019 It’s a lovely oracle but my experience is that in the UK, the customs declaration includes the cost of postage so that will push this item over the threshold. It’s very frustrating and has made many Kickstarter decks unaffordable now. :( Yeah, Kickstarter is amazing, but only if you are in the U.S. (well, I know there are some that are NOT in the U.S. but most of them are). Sad Sigh :'( One thing tho: I've ordered Duck Soup's Tarot of the Zirkus Magi deck last year, and it did actually arrive from Germany, it must have been printed there - no fees!!! So IF they produce the deck after the Kickstarter campaign, there might be a chance to get around the 20 quid postage and packaging, 8 quid fee and maybe a fiver taxes.... so there might be a chance ... well, but then who knows, we might have to pay duty and tax on EU deliveries by then as well. :o
Thoughtful Posted April 22, 2019 Posted April 22, 2019 Yes l could hang in there and see if he does his own sending out of this Oracle. Like you l am wondering about the EU and the dastardly Brexit business, it may have an impact on all duty and tax
DanielJUK Posted April 22, 2019 Posted April 22, 2019 you could message him Thoughtful[/member] and ask how he is publishing them. Rupicapra's experience is probably with a deck printed through printerstudio, they print in Asia but have a hub in Germany and so anything EU comes to there in a huge pallet of their goods and sent on from there, so you pay no customs or charges in the EU (who knows what will happen if we ever do leave). However if it is direct from outside the EU there is a chance you could pay customs. Like Flaxen said, it has made things too expensive and too much of a hassle, everything is based on if they randomly look at your parcel and what price is listed on the outside. The Customs charges are actually only over £135 but the stinger tax is VAT duty owed! That is over £15 including shipping costs (apart from things listed as gifts which is over £39). The VAT is 20% of the total which tends not to be too bad but then the Royal Mail charge you £8 for dealing with it! Normally the actual tax is like £1-£2! You cannot avoid the Royal Mail processing tax unless you pay the tax owed before it is sent (some websites like ebay let you do that now). If it is printed by Lo Scarabeo (they only print their own branded products) or Printerstudio, it will come from the EU and you will be sure no customs charges If it is printed through Gamecrafter, or any of the other self-printing brands on Reall's page here, you may have to pay Duty and Customs charges. Message and ask though, you might be pleasantly surprised. I mostly have to avoid gamecrafter and kickstarter international decks now :'(
Thoughtful Posted April 22, 2019 Posted April 22, 2019 Thank you so much Dan for your informative post <3
Decan Posted April 23, 2019 Posted April 23, 2019 I think that they will reach easily the next step now (edged with gold foil); this deck will be very nice with golden edges. Well, of course I’m very tempted here but I’m careful of my own impulsiveness, it can doing me harm!! ^-^
DevonCarter Posted April 23, 2019 Posted April 23, 2019 This will be the fourth Duck Soup Kickstarter I've backed (one was unsuccessful, unfortunately). I'm not a big oracle user but the art is just so gorgeous I had to have it. I've been pleased with the quality of the decks I've got from him so far, and the price for just the deck is very reasonable IMO. I'm hoping this gets the gilded edges, it'll be gorgeous! I love most of Duck Soup's decks, but outside of Kickstarter they're a bit beyond my usual budget.
FLizarraga Posted April 24, 2019 Author Posted April 24, 2019 Daniel, thank you for all that info! It does suck having to pay so much in customs and taxes. As for stretch goals, the gold foil edges are already a done thing, the project is about to hit the $8,000 mark, and Doug Thornsjo --the creator behind Duck Soup-- is now planning to go from the initial 1,000 deck run to a 1,500 deck run.
FLizarraga Posted April 24, 2019 Author Posted April 24, 2019 I love most of Duck Soup's decks, but outside of Kickstarter they're a bit beyond my usual budget. Same here, D.
Decan Posted April 25, 2019 Posted April 25, 2019 Okay, I'm a backer there. Fortunately in my country (until now at least) the shipping cost isn't included concerning tax at custom.
Decan Posted April 26, 2019 Posted April 26, 2019 I hope that we will have a nice and useful LWB, with extensive keywords to understand clearly the meaning of each of the cards, with maybe a short section for each of them to explain where come from the illustration showed and the link with regard to the assigned meanings, and all, and all! :)
