Ubastyya Posted August 24, 2017 Posted August 24, 2017 I'm sure many have already noticed that the posts on the now closed Aeclectic Forums have no time/date stamps. Makes it very confusing to get an idea how new or old any of the posts are. I can't imagine why these would've been removed. ::) Any ideas?
gregory Posted August 24, 2017 Posted August 24, 2017 I imagine it was just too complicated. I think Solandia has done an amazing job getting the attachments back in. I think that was rather more important. I can't see why it's all that confusing not having dates...
Bodhiseed Posted August 24, 2017 Posted August 24, 2017 For anyone who is looking to find a thread about something specific (not that the search box is gone), just go to Google and type in 'tarot forum' and your topic of interest. Most of the time I can find just what I'm looking for. :D
gregory Posted August 24, 2017 Posted August 24, 2017 The search box is still there... I use it frequently.
Trogon Posted August 24, 2017 Posted August 24, 2017 I had noticed the missing dates too. There's been a couple of times where I thought it would be nice to still have them, but frankly, the fact that the posts are still available is the more important thing to me. I've only missed the dates when I've gone back and found a Tarot spread that I liked - when I put them in my journal, I like to make note of who posted it as well as when it was posted. But I think that's really the only time I really miss not having them.
Bodhiseed Posted August 24, 2017 Posted August 24, 2017 The search box is still there... I use it frequently. Heehee, I was looking for it inside the thread not in the header. ;D :-[ Couldn't see the forest for the trees.
Lantana Posted August 24, 2017 Posted August 24, 2017 I miss them in deck threads, so you can get a better idea of what year it is and when exactly opinions started to change on a deck. But I agree, having attachments (or an archive at all!) is more important.
mariannehj Posted August 28, 2017 Posted August 28, 2017 If you search on Google - the dates are there. I just made a search to see if anyone uses Evernote as a tarot journal. I found a post from 2005 - but on the Aeclectic Forum there's no dates. Sooo.... If you really need the dates, use google ;)

Come to think of it though, one thing I do miss is the advanced search feature we used to have on A.T. I used that quite a lot. Especially as we were nearing the closure date and I was able to find some of the threads/posts of my own that I wanted to save.
EmpyreanKnight Posted September 28, 2017 Posted September 28, 2017 I'm just going to post a sort-of solution I previously posted on another forum. I hope it'd be of help to you guys: If dates are particularly important in an AT thread you're browsing, I just stumbled on a way for it to display not only the date but also the timestamps of all the posts as well. Just open the single page archive-index, printer-friendly view of the thread and you're done. The lack of formatting does make it look weird but it's the only solution I've seen so far.
EmpyreanKnight Posted September 28, 2017 Posted September 28, 2017 This is only really useful if you want to view the date and time stamps of each post in a specific thread. 1. Get the URL of the target thread. For example, the For The Last Time Suggestion thread has the following URL or link: http://tarotforum.net/showthread.php?t=276555&page=2 2. Extract the thread ID. The thread ID is the number in the link after "t=". In this case, it's 276555 3. Put the thread ID in the general archive URL. Just paste it in the indicated section of the general archive URL, which is: http://www.tarotforum.net/archive/index.php/t-<insert thread ID here>.html So for the thread ID 276555, the final URL we're looking for is: http://www.tarotforum.net/archive/index.php/t-276555.html 4. Lastly, paste the final URL into the address bar of your web browser so you can finally see it. Btw I just noticed that in the archive view, the quotes included in a post are not separated from the main text, so yeah it's a bit of an awkward read.
Jenessa Posted December 24, 2017 Posted December 24, 2017 Aside from the dates being removed from the AT Forums, I can't figure out how to search to retrieve my posts. Or rather should I say, I have no idea how to find all the posts i'd made, or the threads i'd started or participated in. Whereas once upon a time AT users could simply click to find all posts made by themselves or other members. In any event, i'd like to view my writings and copy & paste the odd thing to my journal, but alas I have no idea how to go about this. So if anyone can explain how to do this, i'd be very grateful because I didn't see the demise of AT coming, given that I was absent from the boards for well over a year, and so had no idea that AT was no longer operational, tho thankfully it remains as an archive of sorts.
fractalgranny Posted December 24, 2017 Posted December 24, 2017 Me, too! I only found a handful of the I'm sure way over 1,000 posts I have on there.

Alas, if I recall correctly, there was mention that with everything being archived in a fashion that would protect people's privacy as much as possible, I believe the ability to search by user was lost. However ... if someone quoted you in a thread, or mentioned you by name, you can search that. So, for example, if you search "trogon" you'll find all the posts where my original post was quoted or someone mentioned me. That might help you find some of what you're looking for.
EmpyreanKnight Posted December 29, 2017 Posted December 29, 2017 I agree with what Trogon said, Jenessa. Btw, other than the Search mechanism of AT, you can also use Google to find some of your posts there. So like, I also used "EmpyreanKnight" as my username in AT. So what I'd do is go to Google.com, type "EmpyreanKnight site:tarotforum.net", click Search, et voila - the results would show many of the threads I participated in. In your case, I entered "Jenessa site:tarotforum.net" and I saw a lot of threads you wrote in. Btw anyone can try this trick, just do what I did above and enter "<your AT username> site:tarotforum.net" on Google. Happy hunting, and I hope this tip helped. :)
EmpyreanKnight Posted December 29, 2017 Posted December 29, 2017 Btw, you will not be able to access the threads you participated in on the subforums that Solandia hid, like the Your Readings section for example. So you won't be able to see all of your readings, exchanges, and journals. I tried it, so yeah.
Hedera Posted January 24, 2018 Posted January 24, 2018 Thank you for the tip about finding out the date, EmpyreanKnight! I find I miss knowing the dates more than I thought I would; I was a subscriber there since 2003 and there is a lot of my personal & tarot history there, even though I didn't post all that much. I also miss seeing people's avatars - they tend to mean more to me than names (I'm terrible with names irl as well, but pretty good with faces...). It feels weird being there; like being inside a museum full of exhibits that are slowly getting dusty, with no other visitors. Or like a tomb or a pyramid, filled with mummies.... ;)

In any case, we're so glad that you're here, Hedera. :))
Hedera Posted January 24, 2018 Posted January 24, 2018 Aww, thank you EmpyreanKnight! I'm not really that sad though - mostly grateful for the good & interesting times that were had there. And yes, here is to making this place at *least* as good!
