JohnLetter Posted April 21, 2019 Posted April 21, 2019 I'm sorry, but I see this card not as "happy" card but as "I worked hard for get all of these cups, and I won't allow to go everyone inside". You can see that guy and his hands and happy face. He is happy with his stuff and he protect his cups.
Guest libra Posted April 21, 2019 Posted April 21, 2019 I think that what you see in the card should be deeply honored and explored as a message from your subconcious. Do you feel as though what you've worked hard for is in need of protection? For me, in the RWS deck, what stands out is that the Cups are all sitting above and around him. There's a huge sense of pride in this card, like a trophy shelf. I feel like he's the type to throw his all into a new venture, but with the end game, success, on his mind, instead of the journey, the experiences, of it all. It looks like his need to be perceived as The Best is what brings him happiness - or so he thinks. But getting stuck in this card means always chasing down that next hit, that next trophy. The deeper happiness of the 10s aren't attainable unless he goes back to the core of the Aces, the depths of his heart and connections with others. This isn't all to say that this is what this card Means. It's simply what it says to me, in this moment.
Guest D76 Posted April 21, 2019 Posted April 21, 2019 I do not see this card as "happy". I have my own TOP-5 of the most "dangerous" cards in the Tarot .... and 9 cups in this list. This is a card of emotional instability. "Fatal error" at the level of feelings. I call this card the "ninth wave." Often, the fatal wave. Many times this card fell "for" people, who were confused, didn't know what to do, very close to depression. Mental instability. In general, all "nines" - dangerous cards. Because this is such a number - 9. But, this card (in my practice) also fell several times for highly spiritually developed people (scanning photos). I think, "nines" can be good only for this kind of people. But such people are very few. It "works" like this in my practice.

Do you feel as though what you've worked hard for is in need of protection? He is laughing at you with the words "you have that insolence come to me if you do not have everything what I have? I worked hard for get this all. Don't come to me until you will not have the same (Title/Wealth/Level?)"
thinkingmystic Posted April 22, 2019 Posted April 22, 2019 The traditional RWS image reminds me of a smug cousin of mine and I can't unsee that when I see this card in the wild :sigh: It's interesting to contrast the 9 of Cups to the 10 of Cups. In the 9, the happiness such as it is, is centred around one individual and their accomplishments. In the 10, the rainbow shines above a whole community, so the happiness is shared. "Stopping" at the 9 is not the highest achievement, ultimately it's about sharing the love.

But l am very curious as to the deck/s you use for your readings. Would you be willing to share?
gregory Posted April 22, 2019 Posted April 22, 2019 I believe TdM, as D76 believes the Waite/Smith deck is positively dangerous...

MoonScooter Posted April 22, 2019 Posted April 22, 2019 The traditional RWS image reminds me of a smug cousin of mine and I can't unsee that when I see this card in the wild :sigh: Yes! Smug is definitely the word I would use to describe this card. It reminds me of someone who is very stubborn in an argument (even if they realize they are wrong) and just keep fighting until they win. But then when they win they aren't really satisfied, just smug.
TekkieTarot Posted April 23, 2019 Posted April 23, 2019 I like this card in readings I do for myself because it always gives me the feel of you have everything you need to feel emotionally satisfied your life’s ok don’t worry however when reading for people involving relationships or people‘s intentions when it comes to me I don’t like to see this card it gives me a user feel like I’m going to soak up all the attention you give me a very smug card indeed like someone who only wants to deal with you if it’s benefiting them in some way that makes them feel emotionally good I pulled this card for an ex and indeed he used me for his gain and his pleasures but he never treated me the way I treated him he just sat there and received he never gave 🤷🏽♀️
Luna Posted April 23, 2019 Posted April 23, 2019 The traditional RWS image reminds me of a smug cousin of mine and I can't unsee that when I see this card in the wild :sigh: This above made me laugh. ;D I have the same issue--but its not my cousin I see in it, but a distant family member. With my family member, he is somewhat smug, always trying to impress others by buying anything and everything that just might make it look like he has a lot of money and position and power. Sadly, he has none and is so in debt, he has to rely on family members to pay his bills. But, you can be sure he always will be arriving to family affairs in a NEW vehicle every year, and he will have a watch on that cost him several hundreds of dollars and he has all the big price tag toys too. Plus, the man that is usually shown in the RWS deck for this card also sort of looks like him, in a weird way....(without the hat). I can see this as a happy card, but perhaps more of a fake happy, as a result of above. I see it belonging to someone who is trying hard to impress. He/she may be a lot of fun to be around, but just don't get too close, as you'll find out that they aren't all they pretend to be. This said, I have actually received it in readings that shows rewards coming to deserving people. One person I read for recently had it show up as recognition for a job well done. Not long after, he was rewarded by the company he worked for with a nice thank you and a financial gift for a project he had worked on that did really well for the company. So, yes, I can and do see it as a happy card. Some people say its the wish card---but I'm on the fence with that. The guy I read for wasn't asking for a reward for his job, just wanted a general reading for what to expect, because he didn't know what else to ask about.
