Trogon Posted September 2, 2017 Posted September 2, 2017 I think people like me screw up the average... 2402, + a few more in book form. I was going to mention that I recalled someone having a couple of thousand (it came up back on A.T., if I recall). Thanks for reminding me that it was you! ;D Right now I have 43 Tarot decks and one Oracle deck. I have another dozen or so Tarot decks on my wish-list and one other Oracle deck. I bought my first one in about 1992-ish. Second one a couple of years later and have not stopped since. Though I do regret that I didn't buy extra copies of some that are now OOP and fairly valuable ... so I could sell them and buy more.
gregory Posted September 2, 2017 Posted September 2, 2017 Wow... So fun to read :) :) I would LOVE to see a picture of some of your decks, gregory :) This is their storage a few years ago. I need to update, really
Melissa Posted September 2, 2017 Posted September 2, 2017 This is their storage a few years ago. I need to update, really :o :o :o Your tarot room is a treasure trove of goodness!

Em Posted September 2, 2017 Posted September 2, 2017 2402, + a few more in book form. And yes - I too have been at it for a VERY LONG TIME. I am 72 years old, yo know ! Assuming you start to collect tarot cards from the age of 20, that is roughly equivalent to one deck a week :o
Mab Posted September 2, 2017 Posted September 2, 2017 I've got 140+ at the moment, but the number is growing! I bought my first deck in the 60s, but didn't buy many more for years and years. My growing collection is due to the internet - tarot forums and sites! :D

Oh, that one didn't cost much ... you can still get this other one over heeerrrreeee......"
Mi-Shell Posted September 3, 2017 Posted September 3, 2017 Currently I do have 87 Tarot decks, not counting a few spares 60 Oracle decks 2 Lenormand decks 12 Playing card decks with different images on each card

Oh, that one didn't cost much ... you can still get this other one over heeerrrreeee......" This made me laugh out loud :D Just counted mine up, looks like I have 24 tarot decks and 15 oracles. A few of those I'm hoping to sell or trade. Then I have 6 tarot and 4 oracles on my wish list. ETA Oh but I forgot, I've recently come across a couple that I need to add to my wish list...
gregory Posted September 3, 2017 Posted September 3, 2017 Well - some were gifts, many were VERY cheap, and I did have a bit of a binge when my father died and left me - not a lot, but enough for a bit of a treat... I was 30. And am now 72. So yes - about a deck a week. But I don't do fashion,or shoes, or jewellery; I don't smoke.... It is my ONLY vice. And on that basis - a lot cheaper than most. Consider how much it costs to smoke even 10 a day. or go out for coffee every day - I don't do that ether !

Of course not all decks are going to cost £80 and absolutely right, smokers, drinkers, gamblers and high maintenance beauty and fashion addicts are probably going to spend at least if not much more per week than the average deck costs. And at least collecting decks you have something interesting, beautiful, useful and of value to show for it years later! Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk

AJ-ish/Sharyn Posted September 3, 2017 Posted September 3, 2017 my combined oracle tarot is usually around 60 decks. I found tarot at an interesting time when most decks were dirt cheap The expensive ones were the older historical ones, not the ones designed and sold as rare and then reprinted on and on. I've had hundreds of decks over the years, and buy very seldom now, I think I've bought one deck this year. I have a sale list in my profile, and when the rainy season sets in I'll start selling media on ebay. The only deck I'm looking forward to is the Motley Tarot by Malpertuis

I did get a bit of stick on another forum (AT actually !) when someone said I should give away all that I didn't read with as I was wasting them when someone else would USE the,. But I DO use them - reading isn't the only use for decks. And loads of people rose to my defence and the OP left AT rather suddenly.

I doubt anyones deck cry tears of cardstock when they aren't being shuffled or used in readings. I think I'd like to put my year card up and one deck I have that I don't use much have that card as one of my favourite so it's nice to have found a use for it :D And your deck collection sounds awesome! I don't know if I aspire to be up in the 1000's but with all the interesting decks out there I would like to see I might end up with quite a few in the end..
Mab Posted September 6, 2017 Posted September 6, 2017 I agree, your collection sounds wonderful and something like that, lovingly built up over the years, would make me feel good too - and also like a custodian. :)
firefrost Posted September 8, 2017 Posted September 8, 2017 I had around 70 at my peak, I think. I had two huge culls when I found some decks just left me cold when I used them. Couldn't see the point in keeping them. They were either sold or gifted I now have just a few treasured ones and rarely buy any. Having said that, I do like the look of the Marshmallow Marseille but I'm looking at christmas for buying it if it still appeals to me then. I would imagine so, as I've liked the look of it for some time now. I don't dive in these days!
katrinka Posted September 21, 2017 Posted September 21, 2017 My grand total, including all the Tarots, Lenormands, Sibyl this and Jeu that, stuff I bought, stuff people gave me, plus playing cards is probably around 100, give or take. I didn't set out to collect, and I've passed a lot of things on to other people. My general rule is that if a year goes by and I don't touch the deck, it goes. So I use all of those - not always well or expertly, lol, there's too many systems to learn and stay practiced at - but I at least take them out and do a small spread from time to time. They all survived the culls, for one reason or another. I do see some of them as investments. The OOP things, the true limited editions. Things I can flip on ebay if I have to, or pass on to the kids as heirlooms when I croak. But I use those, too, albeit carefully.
saintsandliars Posted September 23, 2017 Posted September 23, 2017 I realized I couldn't actually answer this question, so I got my decks out to do an inventory. I have 27 tarot and marseilles decks (with several more on the way), a sibilla, a lenormand, and 9 oracles. Not as many as I thought. Besides the sibilla and the lenormand (which I can't read properly yet), I do use most of them on the regular. There's a few I plan on culling, but I'm so lazy about getting to the PO.
chongjasmine Posted September 24, 2017 Posted September 24, 2017 I currently have 1 deck-- the universal waite deck. Hope to acquire more decks, though.
EmpyreanKnight Posted September 30, 2017 Posted September 30, 2017 70 decks, and it's bound to swell again soon. I want moar! ;D
isawhale Posted September 30, 2017 Posted September 30, 2017 Hi readers ;) I read somewhere that the average tarotreader have about 44 tarot decks! I started reading about 4 months ago - and I have 6 tarot decks (and 4 oracle decks). How many do you have? Not even close lol...I have 4 tarot decks and 2 oracle decks-my rider waite is missing a couple cards so I don't use that anymore so more like 3 usable tarot decks. I love shadowscape deck so I'm happy to use that one and don't really feel a strong urge to buy a new deck other than to replace the rider waite maybe. Shadowscape just has a nicer feel in readings and is equally if not more accurate than rider waite because I love to focus on the pictures in it and give more info based on that. It was the first deck I really connected to.

I had to do that with my RWS. I've had mine since I was 16- I bought it then although I just played around with it every once in a while and didn't actually learn to read until many years later. So I had put the deck in storage, and when I pulled it out years later when tarot started calling me again I realized I was missing three of the cards. I called US Games to ask if I could buy individual replacement cards, and they said they would send me replacements for free! So I believe that is their policy. I've also received free replacements from other publishing companies and from indie publishers, although in those cases it was due to cards arriving with damage or printing errors. In any case, they are very nice at US Games, so you should get in touch and see if they can help with the incomplete deck [emoji4] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Queen of Nothing Posted September 30, 2017 Posted September 30, 2017 I have 18 tarot, 2 lenormand, and 4 oracle. I also have one on its way to me and like... 8 on preorder. I'm planning on preordering another 3 over the course of the next month, too. But to be honest, I was collecting before I was reading. There are just so many pretty decks, I can't help it. :D
EmpyreanKnight Posted October 1, 2017 Posted October 1, 2017 But to be honest, I was collecting before I was reading. There are just so many pretty decks, I can't help it. :D After getting the Original Rider-Waite as my second deck, my Tarot journey came to a standstill because I got really busy with school and then work. During that time, I would collect some decks just because they're so purty, but that's it since I had no time to explore them in depth.
