Hi readers ;)

I read somewhere that the average tarotreader have about 44 tarot decks!

I started reading about 4 months ago - and I have 6 tarot decks (and 4 oracle decks).

How many do you have?

Not even close lol...I have 4 tarot decks and 2 oracle decks-my rider waite is missing a couple cards so I don't use that anymore so more like 3 usable tarot decks. I love shadowscape deck so I'm happy to use that one and don't really feel a strong urge to buy a new deck other than to replace the rider waite maybe. Shadowscape just has a nicer feel in readings and is equally if not more accurate than rider waite because I love to focus on the pictures in it and give more info based on that. It was the first deck I really connected to.

isawhale, not sure which RWS version you have, but you can contact US Games and ask them for replacements for the cards you lost. I had to do that with my RWS. I've had mine since I was 16- I bought it then although I just played around with it every once in a while and didn't actually learn to read until many years later. So I had put the deck in storage, and when I pulled it out years later when tarot started calling me again I realized I was missing three of the cards. I called US Games to ask if I could buy individual replacement cards, and they said they would send me replacements for free! So I believe that is their policy. I've also received free replacements from other publishing companies and from indie publishers, although in those cases it was due to cards arriving with damage or printing errors. In any case, they are very nice at US Games, so you should get in touch and see if they can help with the incomplete deck [emoji4]

Ooo thank you this is helpful. I think it's just the classic deck which I bought off amazon; can see about getting replacement cards. I'm missing 2. Will call and see. :)

I own 10 tarot decks and 1 oracle, and I've backed 2 tarots on Kickstarter and have another in the mail :D

I really need to do a database at some point, because I have no idea.  I did have a list on AT, but I forgot to save it, which was BAD of me.  It still doesn't really reflect how many decks I have....I'm thinking around 700 or so...rough estimate.

But, I started collecting 15 years ago, and got my first deck in the 70's.

I currently have just 1 deck.

Hope to increase though, as soon as I get some money.

I finally did a list of my collection! I currently have 33 Tarot deck (+ 2 ordered). I have 5 Lenormand and 9 Oracle Decks.

So I have 47 decks in total (or 49 if I include the ordered decks).

...As of today I have 278 Decks this includes a couple of Lenormands and a few oracles…I just got the 1910 Rider Tarot Revived and I ordered Pam’s Vintage Tarot today…so when I get that one it will be 279....

It was fun to see what I have.  I now have 28 tarot (+various editions of some) and 15 oracle decks.  I have given 2 away through the years, I have a few pre-ordered, one in the mail, and a very loooooong wish list.  I bought my first oracle deck in the 70s and my first tarot in the 80s. Sigh...that seems so long ago...

ROFLMAO!!!

And I'd wager that you're a hoopy frood who really knows where their towel is!

I have 7 tarot decks at the moment, only 5 of which are actually used for readings because there are a couple of specimens among them with which I can't seem to forge an intuitive connection whatsoever, no matter how much time and patience I give them. They're on thin ice!

Only 2, shadowscape and steampunk tarot (moore version). And I always use Steampunk tarot only.

Just breached the 80+ mark. I should be able to join the 100+ Club before the year ends. I never really thought it would come to this point, but maybe I need a heavy dose of Temperance right now.

I have more than 200, and it is too many for me. I plan to reduce the number. I just don't use enough of them and I don't want to own stuff that I don't use. These decks deserve to be loved and used!  :)

Just reached 90. Ordered a bunch of decks; once they arrive I shall breach the 3-digit mark.

Well, I think I'm now at 45. I gave my Universal Waite to a friend who had been getting interested in Tarot. Then I've bought 3 ... net gain of 2. ;D

....I have 275 and its still growing...but Gregory , wow, how do you keep track of them all

I have a database :) Doesn't everyone ? :D And I am very careful when I put them back where they are supposed to be. That said, one very small one is technically awol just now... :( It must be in the room somewhere, and I plan a complete stock check soon. I far it may have slid down the inside of a chest of drawers. It's VERY skinny

I am not planning for a museum - I have visited a few and I haven't the energy.

And yes - I too have been at it for a VERY LONG TIME. I am 72 years old, yo know !

One thing I’ve discovered with tarot is when a deck goes out of print, they usually appreciate in value.  Gregory, you must be sitting on a fortune.  In all honesty, I suggest you get your collection insured.  Over 2000 decks is astounding!

I keep 2 handwritten lists, one of my oracle and one of my tarot decks.  I noticed Gregory mentioned keeping decks in the same space all the time.  I don’t have dressers full of decks but I do try to keep them in the same shelf locations.  Now that I have all the decks (not nearly 2000+!!!) I no longer have to keep making room for more so my shelves stay organized and I can keep an inventory of decks and their locations.

I live in Florida and when I do take inventory, I also go through and shuffle my decks, usually around 5 or 6 at a sitting to make sure that they are not sticking together.  I just did an inventory last week so my count is current.

I have 229 decks in total.

195 tarot

134 oracle

This total does not include my Hanafuda decks but they are listed in my profile.  ;)

If I sold up - yes, I could be very rich indeed. (ETA though the OOP thing is by no means infallible.)

But I don't have to get it insured. I did look into this.

Because having more than one does not add to the value of each in that group, as you might say, they would only need to be insured individually. It's not - I was advised - like stamps, where completing a set means the three stamps you already had rocket in price when the fourth is added.

If the house burned down tomorrow, our insurance probably wouldn't cover the full value of its contents, when we add in everything in the house - but there are only three or four decks that should technically be insured as individual items which are above the allowable value for a single item, as you might say.

Because we own our house, we aren’t required by law to have insurance and we don’t but I worry all the time about a fire.  I am a recluse and rarely leave the house except for my doctor visits but still.  I want to at least get the household contents insured.  Maybe if my business takes off.

I have about 21 (Tarot, Oracle, Misc.) - I wonder if there's something to be considered for strictly Tarot readers vs. collectors? For instance, an Uber driver just needs one really good car to do what they do, but someone who collects cars will have several automobiles in their garage. I don't read professionally or anything- I use my decks for meditation and insight, and I collect for the artwork or if a deck just strikes me via its interpretation or approach. It would be *so* easy to just slip into "collect 'em all!" mode, though- I add decks to my wishlist pretty much every day. Getting new decks and curating my little collection and working with the different decks just make me so happy.

I've lost count...I did have a spreadsheet I was keeping up to date but, after my PC died a sudden death, I haven't added to it. I think It was around the 100 mark but need to go through and check.

That’s a really good thought.  Speaking for myself, I read with all of my decks.  I’ve done some Facebook parties where I’ve had many readings back to back.  I never use just one deck.  I switch out a deck for each reading.  When I’m reading for ‘clients’ (I haven’t taken money yet), I give much thought as to what deck would be best suited for them.  Once my site is complete, I will have a portfolio where they will be able to choose the deck they want me to use for their reading.  So, in my case, I have purchased my decks for my business.  A few of the decks I own are not my favorites like the Ceccoli tarot or Beautiful Creatures but I have them to appeal to a wide spectrum of people.  I have used them for ‘clients,’ usually younger females and they have loved the decks.  I also do Writer Readings where those 2 decks have really worked out great because of the images, not so much how they read.  I also have read many readers with many decks only use one or two favorites.  I don’t read for myself though, only for others.
