I don't have tons of decks but the most reassuring one(and also the first one I bought) is the art nouveau tarot ( https://www.adlibris.com/fi/kirja/tarot-art-nouveau-deck-9780738700083 ) . I know, people are always saying that it's not a good deck for reading 'cause the symbolism is not like RW and it's hard to understand but honestly, to me there is a clear(but subtle)symbolism in these cards, too. For example I see a lot of the emotional background information in the natural/flowery background(for example 5 of Cups has some empty branches in the background; or the 6 of Pentacles has tulips and one of the meanings of the tulip flower is to support the less fortunate) and I'm not really bothered by the lack of obvious symbols. Also I like pretty images, and I think this deck is very graceful, and it's very in my style, colour wise too.

WHAT A nice description of this deck. Oftentimes, of course, objects (and other beings) are best described by those whom love them... I don’t have that deck, but I really like the love with which you’ve seen the subtle details of it, and sharing it like this! (No matter what others are saying, we should always stand by our most darling decks! — that it connects with you like this, that’s beautiful!)

I don't have a huge collection but the Fey Tarot is my go to.  I'm trying to branch out a little now but I just love the imagery on the Fey.

Normally, it is Kat Black's Golden. It was my first reading deck, and it triggers my intuition like no other.

Though I find myself lately reaching for one edition or another of the RWS. It reads very clearly, for the obvious reasons, I guess.

I don't have one single go-to Tarot. I keep the classics handy (Thoth greenie, University Books RWS and the Madenié TdM.) I've been using the Vamp a lot. The Lasenic and my Baba decks are never packed away, either, nor are my two sets of Wirth Majors. But the first thing I tend to reach for if I just want a quick answer is the Wust Lenormand repro with playing card insets, or the Kipperkarten.

To be fair, the Thoth is incisive and scalpel-like, much like the last two mentioned, but tends to impose more complexity. And the method I use for pip Tarot Minors is at its heart a playing card method. But for simple questions, I prefer something more stripped down.

@katrinka

Hello there,

I have a question about the University Books RWS deck. How is the card stock on that deck? Is it paper thin or is it good card stock? I've looking into a vintage deck and may get one of those. Any idea what the year may be also? Thanks.

It's excellent. Sturdy and flexible, but not plastic-y. Stands up to tons of riffling.
Mine's from late 60's-early 70's. Of course there are older ones (and those come in a slipcase rather than a tuckbox!), but I imagine the stock is similar.

Thank you. I had read one time that someone said they were like paper, but I wasn't so sure about that. The colors on those versions seem to be much bolder than the US Game/Swiss made cards.

Yes, particularly the blues.
Here's the USG High Priestess and the University Books High Priestess, for comparison. I prefer the more intense colors!

Hi there I am new here and am enjoying learning by reading the posts. I bought my very first deck last week, and itś the Ethereal Visions deck, and I absolutely adore it. I was drawn to it immediately the first time i saw it, and thus far I love everything about it. For my second deck I am considering Wildwood tarot.

My go-to deck now is the Everyday Enchantment by Poppy Palin. I wasn't very excited when it was being created. I thought the art work was kind of simplistic. I love Poppy's Wild Spirit and it's always been my personal deck that I used only for myself. When I got the Everyday Enchantment, though, I was really amazed at the deck, the book, and all else about it except that it's a big deck and I can't really riffle it.

When advising a new person of a deck to learn Tarot with, the RWS has always been my hands-down recommendation. Now, however, the Everyday Enchantment is my recommendation as a deck to learn with and to continue with, too.. It's an amazing deck. Don't get me wrong---the RWS is still an excellent deck to use for learning the basics. But for a deck that a new user can learn that will cover all the basics, Everyday Enchantment is an excellent choice. And by all means, if someone new gets this deck, be sure to read the book. It's fabulous, too. I think the entire Everyday Enchantment package is brilliant..
