September Full Moon

I hope I'm putting this post in the right place...I don't really see my lunar connection as part of astrology (though maybe it is?) and it is a spiritual connection, one that calls to my soul, so I thought it belonged here more than Chatter Room. But feel free to move if it should be somewhere else :)

This full moon time feels especially powerful to me. When I mentioned this to my husband, he pointed out that it's the first full moon since the total solar eclipse, so maybe that has something to do with it. (We traveled together to the path of totality to see the eclipse, and it was maybe the most beautiful and powerful thing I have ever seen.)

I was reading some things about this month's full moon that I wanted to share here. Usually the September full moon is known as the Harvest Moon. However, the name Harvest Moon is given to the full moon that is closest to the Autumn Equinox, and this year that will be the October full moon. So, the most common name given to the September full moon on years when that moon is not the Harvest Moon is the Corn Moon. (The October full moon will be on October 5, and that will be the Harvest Moon for 2017. The October full moon is also known as the Hunters Moon.)

I also found some beautifully poetic names for the September full moon on the Farmer's Almanac website- these names were used by different Native American tribes:

“Moon When the Plums Are Scarlet” - Lakota Sioux Native Americans.

“Moon When the Deer Paw the Earth” - Omaha Native Americans.

“Moon When the Calves Grow Hair” - Sioux Native Americans

My breath was taken away by these beautiful names. So just wanted to share all of this here :)

Happy Full Moon everyone, and may it's energy be a blessing!

I went outside late last night (early this morning?) and spent some time just taking her in. I love the moon in all forms, there's just something about a full moon that I find so much peace in.

I love the Moon, all phases of it, but indeed the Full Moon is always spectacular to watch in my opinion.

Still, it always prevent me from falling asleep and that's not nice haha!  :P  Still love her (just realized that you don't have gender specific pronouns for non-people/animal stuff in English, yet it seems natural to say 'her', is it something common even among native speakers?  :o)

Since I live in the Deep South, most of the medicine wheels (and their moons) have little to do with the seasons, flora and fauna here. I created my own sacred wheel based on where I live. Here's the moon for this month:

Peanut Pulling Moon (September)

Despite its name and appearance, the peanut is not a nut but a legume (of the bean family) whose pods develop underground.  George Washington Carver was instrumental in promoting the peanut.  He advocated growing it as an alternative to cotton because it would provide nutrition for farm families, and it would restore nitrogen to the soil as a form of crop rotation.  This moon's lesson is to take time to recover and heal when we've been through any type of upheaval in our lives.

I'm in SC and your renaming of the moon is just awesome. Now I feel the need to find the nearest roadside market that's boiling today.

I absolutely love this Bodhiseed! I love learning about traditions, rituals etc from all cultures, but ultimately I think it's so important to find what you personally resonate with, which can mean creating your own traditions and rituals. And the Peanut Pulling Moon...that's just so lovely!
