I have the mini version. http://www.nakisha.com/the_rabbit_tarot.htm There's also the exquisite Brady Tarot. It's not entirely animals, but you should take a look! https://bradytarot.com/ Ha! The rabbits are awesome! So sweet. Love it - ah but I think I need a mix of animals at least for my first. I was checking out the Brady Tarot from a prior member’s post and yes it’s now in my top three too!! Such great recommendations from everyone - thank you!
cosita Posted August 2, 2019 Posted August 2, 2019 There's also the Mibramig Magical Tarot from Lo Scarabeo. I've been using it lately and it's got a great sense of humour. I'm finding it a good deck for tough times. Here's a walkthrough:

And it's affordable. Since I'm not likely to get my hands on the Fantastic Menagerie and I wouldn't look twice at a realistic animal deck, this one is my favorite as well.
bookshop Posted August 2, 2019 Posted August 2, 2019 oh I really like the Mibramig Tarot! I am surprised I hadn't seen it before. Does anyone know, is it possible to get this one without borders? I confess that I shy away from LS decks because of the whole border situation, ahaha, I hate their borders and I never quite know if / how I can get borderless decks.
AJ-ish/Sharyn Posted August 2, 2019 Posted August 2, 2019 bookshop the Mibramig Magical Tarot doesn't have the multiple titles, LoS stopped doing that some years ago. https://www.google.com/search?q=Mibramig+Magical+Tarot&tbm=isch&source=univ&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwjHo6PVxeTjAhUfHzQIHZrFAY8QsAR6BAgGEAE&biw=1366&bih=625#imgrc=_
Mi-Shell Posted August 2, 2019 Posted August 2, 2019 As far as Tarot is concerned, my hand painted Wild Unknown Tarot is currently getting stiff competition from the Anieth Nature Deck. In terns of Animal based Oracle decks My 20+ year favorite and go to deck for public readings for NA sitters is the Medicine Cards deck, to which I added 25 extra cards and then the Pathfinders Animal Totem deck with its 80-something Animals to which I also added 12 further cards. http://www.aeclectic.net/tarot/cards/pathfinders/

I think I’m partial to the non-realistic ones as well overall .... but some images have tempted me! I haven’t really settled on one yet. I’m sure I’ll eventually find one that really has my heart but I do think I like this one best so far but I’m still not sure and feel like I still need to search.

It is bold and I do love the contrast with the black and white and then the color put very purposefully in certain places. It is a really cool looking deck! The Anieth deck has some gorgeous images -I love the typography and love the artistry - I do like this one a lot and maybe more than some of the other more realistic ones - thank you!!!

The art is sublime and it's got a sly humor to it. OMG! I'll start saving my pennies now in case they do! I had a chance to buy it a few years ago while it was still around. Expensive but around. But I didn't take advantage of that opportunity and have been kicking myself in the butt ever since!

I believe there are 8 included per pack of medicine cards? And how did you illustrate them? I was wondering if they are glossy or if you can easily draw on them. It would be really interesting to hear/see how you did it! I have been contemplating getting this deck and that’s why I ask!

It would be really interesting to hear/see how you did it! I have been contemplating getting this deck and that’s why I ask! Over the years I had at least 5 Medicine Card decks. I used to read with them at the Pow Wows and NA Social events. then people especially in remote reserves and before available internet asked me to pleas trade them the deck - for art and craft pieces, furs or ?? So often I brought brand new Wa Na Ne' Che, Sweatlodge Cards and Medicine Card decks with me, to sell or trade at cost and to teach reading with them. The people wanted to learn and them themselves read and trade for readings especially during the winter.... some of my decks wore out, got wet or... traded and I had the extra cards and so added all the Manitous, that were still missing and important in the culture or as in the Snow Leopard, who is a mayor Manitou/ ancestor Guardian of my tribe/ Clan, important to me. He shows up, when some of my own stuffff is touched by the reading as well...... here are pics of extra cards of the medicine Card deck and the Pathfinder deck:
Raggydoll Posted August 4, 2019 Posted August 4, 2019 Thank you so much @Mi-Shell ! I love how you have added plants and trees too. I am going to study that deck to see how well it would work for me with the chosen animals. I would prefer to work with energies that I am familiar with in these type of decks, but that’s usually not an option. I want a representation of the traditions and beliefs I grew up with. That’s not very easy to find since I’m Norse but I do not believe in the mythological Norse pantheons (long story, but I was influenced by my grandfather who believed in the old ways and who practiced some Norse shamanism - though he was not a shaman and would never have called himself that. The stories I was told about nature spirits and animals etc are almost never represented well by any deck. At least not one that I’ve found so far. That’s why I am interested in modifying decks and also working on creating a personal deck. This is quite off topic but maybe it would be good to have a thread discussing nature based and shamanistic decks more in general?).
PathWalker Posted August 4, 2019 Posted August 4, 2019 (edited) Has anyone mentioned the Druid Animal Oracle? I suppose it is quite geographically specific, but it might appeal to some folks who haven't seen it before? (It links with the Plant Oracle, so can become a mixed deck) http://www.aeclectic.net/tarot/cards/druid-animal-oracle/ Edited August 4, 2019 by PathWalker
Jewel Posted August 5, 2019 Posted August 5, 2019 I do not consider decks like Fantastic Menagerie or Animal Lords to be animal decks. They are not so much about the animals as they are a reference on human society. I will say though, if you can ever get your hands on the Fanstastic Menagerie it is a fabulous deck, and the companion book (sold separately usually these days) is really good and worth having if you own the deck, it really dives into JJ Grandville and adds some good background to the cards that I have found very useful. As for straight out animal tarot decks, I have to admit I am a fan of the Magical Forest Creatures and the Baroque Bohemian Cats (the book has a fabulous cat perspective). If what you are really looking for is a deck that delves into the animals themselves I do not own many Tarot decks of this sort that I can recommend, but there are quite a few animal oracles out there. I do have the Spirit Song, but have not worked with it yet, but I am hoping that turns out to be a good a animal tarot deck for me. I have Animals Divine, but it did not quite hit the mark with me. My favorite would have to be the Majors only Tarot for Cats, I so would have loved to see what they could have done in the minors. The cat running from the vacuum cleaner in the Tower card was simply brilliant. With the companion book that has the "cat meanings" of the cards the Baroque Bohemian Cats works great as an animal deck, though only has cat perspectives. As for Animal Oracles, my favorites are The Way of the Horse, Messages from your Spirit Guides and the Druid Animal Oracle. I enjoy using the Druid Animal Oracle in conjunction with my Druid Craft Tarot.

The FM satirizes human behavior, you won't find animal essences in it (except in the sense that some animals are predators, dogs sometimes howl at piano music, etc.) 1 hour ago, Jewel said: As for straight out animal tarot decks, I have to admit I am a fan of the Magical Forest Creatures and the Baroque Bohemian Cats (the book has a fabulous cat perspective). And there's a new edition of the BBC in the works as we speak. Cold stamped, and with some new cards. Karen was posting photos of a tiny dress on facebook. :) 1 hour ago, Jewel said: As for Animal Oracles, my favorites are The Way of the Horse, Messages from your Spirit Guides and the Druid Animal Oracle. I vaguely remember some kind of uproar when that bit of information came out, but people should have known already. There's just too much we don't know about the ancient Druids. It's still a beautiful deck, though.
