chongjasmine Posted September 24, 2017 Posted September 24, 2017 In total, how much had you spent on tarot products?
saintsandliars Posted September 24, 2017 Posted September 24, 2017 Waaaay too much ;D Not nearly as much as some, but I have a few very expensive decks that I don't regret in the slightest. I do tend toward indie, OOP, and limited run, though, which often start in the $40-$50 range + shipping, so it adds up quick.
TarotBeader Posted September 24, 2017 Posted September 24, 2017 I bought my first deck and book in 1979. I now have over 300 decks and a huge bookcase full of books on Tarot. I wouldn't even care to guess how much I have invested in decks, books, classes, and symposiums over the years. ???
AJ-ish/Sharyn Posted September 24, 2017 Posted September 24, 2017 I couldn't guess, I hardly buy anything anymore, I now have the best of the best, for me. I don't feel anything was poor stewardship of my money because I read (and read again, many) books and I've used all my cards many times. Doing beadwork and quilting is a far more expensive hobby because although you might need all the colors you seldom need or use all you've spent in order to get the variety.
EmpyreanKnight Posted September 25, 2017 Posted September 25, 2017 Since I took up collecting two years ago, I'd estimate it at around $85 to $100 a month, which is reasonable, really, compared to how much I spend on other stuff. Thing is, I have to import most of my decks and books etc, and sometimes the shipping + customs fees can be rather daunting.
Trogon Posted September 25, 2017 Posted September 25, 2017 Far more than my wife would want me to spend, and undoubtedly less than I want to spend.
Onaorkal Posted September 25, 2017 Posted September 25, 2017 Far more than my wife would want me to spend, and undoubtedly less than I want to spend. hahaha best answer! ;D I think I've been buying a deck every couple of months (roughly), but the thing is I tend to like less mainstream decks AND I live in Canada, so with the currency conversion, each deck gets pricey. For example, my last acquisition, the Pokemon Tarot, ended up being about 80$, even though the deck is 45$USD. :o So that's for decks, now for books, I have to admit that I don't spend as much. I love to rent books at the public library and I love searching for interesting finds at the used bookstore. I haven't found many good tarot books yet, but I don't despair!

Pokemon actually has a tarot? Yes! :D It's not an official goodie though, it is fanmade, but really well done. I made a thread about it in the Decks section : https://www.thetarotforum.com/tarot-decks/pokemon-tarot/
Queen of Nothing Posted September 26, 2017 Posted September 26, 2017 Right now I'm buying about a deck a week, which is too many by far. And I just backed several on Kickstarter, so it's adding up. God, so much money is being spent. But at least I can afford it. However, all the decks I bought sold out not too long after, like the Hidden Waters, Starchild Akashic, and Lumina to name a few. Like, they sold out days after I bought mine. So, I don't feel too bad right now. ;D
Lantana Posted September 26, 2017 Posted September 26, 2017 I buy or pre-order usually a deck a month, usually an indie deck because that's where my taste leans. I could calculate how much I've actually spent but... I don't want to admit it to myself. Not sure if anyone here does. :-[ It's definitely over a grand at this point... edit: Calculated it and it turned out to be a bit under a grand.
Page of Ghosts Posted September 26, 2017 Posted September 26, 2017 Heh, it's probably a lot. A couple thousand NOK easily over 3-4 years ???
Le Fanu Posted September 26, 2017 Posted September 26, 2017 Over the years - a LOT. I sometimes wonder whether I could have bought another house with what I spend on decks and bags and postage and crystals and spreadcloths and beautiful fabrics which I have had hemmed and lined and trips to places with tarot shops and - well - just all of it really. A lot. But I don't care-. I don't have children - that's what really drains your finances and nobody questions that. I think I'd rather have a roomful of cards and no kids. Yes, I think that's probably true ;D But if it weren't cards it would be something else - one always finds something to squander money on; sports stuff, embroidery, wool for knitting, mountaineering equipment, whatever.
chongjasmine Posted September 26, 2017 Author Posted September 26, 2017 For me, I had spent about US $600 in total. Not much compared to some of you.
