I do journal. But I write more about the card meanings and association. But also on things how I can become a better reader. I am always thinking about the Tarot cards, and I always see a Tarot card association. I use a Word computer file to write everything in it. It is huge; it is really a book, but too much to print. I have to admit I read my cards not often. I really should do this more. But if I do it, I write it down in a paper notebook, together with all my Tarot ideas.

Do you write down what you interpret from the tarot?

I don't journal. Not for tarot, anyway.

Yet, it is recommended by most tarot books that a practitioner should journal.

Am I at a disadvantage, since I don't journal?

As a creative person myself who enjoys writing. I journal mainly for tarot with the types of spreads, thoughts and feelings that I have experienced with Chris. But most of the time in my journal I’d like to use symbols to down do on the amount of effort used to write a word and also to protect the subjects privacy. Leaving in a big family who tend to ‘snoop’ in your things.

I enjoy journaling, and like others here I have various tarot journals going on at a time.  I have a general journal where I record my readings (I do a lot of personal development and introspection work) and I tape colored pictures of the cards with my readings.  I find that as I start writing more information just starts flowing.  I have also found it useful in identifying patterns such as cards that come up frequently for me.  I also keep separate tarot study journals.  For example I have been studying the Wizards Tarot using the companion book as the guide so I have a notebook dedicated to that.  I have another for tarot exercises I do from other books.  I also prefer handwritten over electronic so all my journals are in long hand.  I could save a lot of tape, time and space if I did my journaling on a computer but I am old school and it just feels more personal to me.

Are you at a disadvantage? again that is personal.  If you have not tried it, give it a shot and see what you think.  Just know there is no right or wrong way to do journal.  Whatever feels good to you when doing your tarot journal is right for you and that is all that matters no matter what any given book may say.

I do keep a journal, but I generally don't write my readings down in it. I do sometimes write down a reading if something came up that I want to reflect on later, or if it's designed to be a goal-setting spread (for example) that I'll want to keep coming back to reflect on.

I like to use it to write down card meanings and my thoughts on illustrations when I'm getting to know a new deck, because connecting the pictures to the meaning really helps me not blank out. I also write down interesting ideas from tarot-related books and such in it too. It's not very formal.
