EmpyreanKnight Posted September 30, 2017 Posted September 30, 2017 Have you ever tried to read the Tarot while you were either drunk or high on drugs? How was it overall? How did it feel like? Were the results accurate? I've never tried doing it drunk and I've never done drugs, so I'm very much curious about the experiences of those who explored the cards while under the influence of either (or even both).
Queen of Nothing Posted September 30, 2017 Posted September 30, 2017 One time I went out for a few drinks after work. Then when I got home, I remembered I had to write a blog post for the divination community I'm part of on the Amino app. I tried reading the guidebook to help me out, but I was too drunk to read.
isawhale Posted September 30, 2017 Posted September 30, 2017 Have you ever tried to read the Tarot while you were either drunk or high on drugs? How was it overall? How did it feel like? Were the results accurate? I've never tried doing it drunk and I've never done drugs, so I'm very much curious about the experiences of those who explored the cards while under the influence of either (or even both). I have tried tarot while drunk many a times. The results have been spot on (in person readings) and I have alot more confidence doing readings for people while drunk. I never give drunk readings online though aha. Under the influence of most drugs I don't think people would feel the urge to do tarot...maybe some would be interested in knowing...I imagine on mushrooms or marijuana-and most natural hallucinogens you would have an upperhand with intuitive abilities-depending on who you are. One thing I do notice while drunk though is it's harder to feel out someone's energy and visulize the state of them for a mini energy/psychic read which I like to do before my tarot reads...I still read tarot partially intuitively during drunk reads however. I have read alot of people drunk they always confirm alot of info with me about accuracy. I tested this with someone last night while drinking. Since I know this person personally I asked them to give me the letter of the persons name (a different letter not the real initial) so I have no clue who it is and they would ask about feelings and outcomes of situations and other things like that. I could feel energy of the person or situation in question at the beginning of reads but I couldn't give as much info on energy reads as I normally do, but I think that had more to do with this person's overflow of masculine energy (not the most receptive person); more as in whatever comes through strongest; anger, female energy, etc. The tarot reads were crazy accurate though. Alot of tarot skills has to do with confidence imho (to trust the flashes of information you recieve and to relay them to the querent) and then of course knowing the full meanings of the cards and alcohol definitely helps with the confidence part. Also side note-I'm not a heavy drinker I just get the strong urge to do tarot when I drink XD
katrinka Posted September 30, 2017 Posted September 30, 2017 Having a few shots of good vodka or gin makes the reading flow and doesn't hurt your accuracy. It's more fun, too. ;D Of course, it's like anything else, too much will make you sloppy. So I don't recommend overdoing it. Weed - hard to say. Depends on the strain and how you handle it. Some people do great, others - nope. Anything else should be taken in extreme moderation if you're going to be reading, if at all.
EmpyreanKnight Posted October 1, 2017 Author Posted October 1, 2017 This is very interesting. I think I shall try to read the Tarot with a little buzz, just to see how it will be like. Who knows, it might unlock interesting things. But if I am to do it, you guys are correct in that I should read for someone else to be sure that there's an objective judge of my reading. Even if I only drank a bit the previous night, sometimes a few things that happened would be pretty unclear the next morning. Yeah I'm not good with alcohol lol.
EmpyreanKnight Posted October 2, 2017 Author Posted October 2, 2017 I guess I was just curious because I have read some interesting accounts as to how people have previously used mind-altering drugs to foretell the future. I have never used drugs (no offense to those who do or did), and under the highly prohibitive environment here in the Philippines, I'm not about to start. But I've heard of entheogens - psychoactive substances used in religious or ritual use to inspire visions. Said to be the most potent shamanic hallucinogen, the ayahuasca has been used by native Indian and mestizo shamans in Peru, Colombia and Ecuador for healing and divination for thousands of years. And similar to it, the most celebrated of all the ancient oracles aside from the Sybils of Cumae - the Oracle of Delphi, also known as the Pythia, the High Priestess of the Temple of Apollo, the god of truth and prophecy, is said to enter her trance by inhaling sweet-smelling noxious fumes coming from deep fissures underneath the temple, according to Plutarch. With so many diverse ancient cultures linking substances to divination, I honestly think that there might be some truth behind it. And who knows, maybe it's still happening right now. One day, with competent help of course, I just might explore it.
Onaorkal Posted October 2, 2017 Posted October 2, 2017 I think it's a very interesting subject EmpyreanKnight, even though the mention of drugs for non-medical uses is pretty much taboo in many places. I don't tolerate alcool too well, so after 2 glasses of wine I wouldn't be able to read seriously. Yesterday I did it after 1 glass and it was fine. In fact yeah you could say it was flowing quite easily. I've never tried with anything else, but I would be curious of the effect of marijuana. I bet it would be similar to that 1 glass of wine ; more relaxed state, maybe a bit more spontaneity. I never tried anything hallucinogenic, but I've had a couple of friends telling me about their personal experiences and I really wonder if one would be able to do tarot readings at all! I know it might enhance the chances of having a spiritual experience, but to do tarot you need to be grounded into the physical world to an extent so yeah.

The cards could tell you all the secrets of the universe in a secret telepathic language that only you and they could understand (or for that matter, a toaster might tell you the same things) but if you're sitting there mute with your eyes pinwheeling, you can't do readings. 8)

I know it might enhance the chances of having a spiritual experience, but to do tarot you need to be grounded into the physical world to an extent so yeah. I think you have a good point here. I think hallucinogenic drugs, if used properly for divination (how does one do this tho?), would give one direct visions of the future without using the Tarot as an intermediary. I've heard that there are drugs that eases you into a state of deep contentment, of profound peace, and makes you more attuned and spiritual. Maybe those are the kind of substances that would stimulate one to give more inspired Tarot readings.

One day, with competent help of course, I just might explore it. Interesting; for me with marijuana and hallucinogens I definitely become empathic and sensitive to the "unseen world" to the extreme. I am an empath without it; but with I can read alot more aspects energy and see some aspects of the future of them. It is like dreaming while fully awake in alot of ways; thought is more fluid so you can delve deeper into any streams of thought you choose. Telepath and spirit encounters are many times more likely...(dark ones if you fail to protect yourself, light ones if you have your heart set on positive change) Have alot of premonitions and and such when I use hallucinogens, but it's been awhile since taking any sort of high dose of anything. I wouldn't recommend it for getting in touch with the spirit realm alone. Hallucinogens like ayahuasca and mushrooms should be respected for soul progression not for gaining powers, that's just sort of an added bonus. If you are looking for a refresh and restart, sure...but all connections with the divine come from within and can be practiced and grown without the aid of mind altering substances. Just a personal opinion. Really is an eye-opener though, must say.

EmpyreanKnight Posted October 2, 2017 Author Posted October 2, 2017 Oh, my apologies for asking such an indelicate (and rather improper) question, katrinka. When I'm in a deep conversation with disarming dames, I have this tendency to lose my tact, among other things. ;D And lol at the gif. That is one ravishing minx.
EmpyreanKnight Posted October 2, 2017 Author Posted October 2, 2017 Oh wow, this is what I'm looking for, isawhale. Thank you! To be fully honest, I think that presently I've been rather competent with my readings, as some of my querents would attest. But I always keep thinking about those mysterious, mystical beings who have a firm, unbending grip on the future. Those possessed of the sacred gift of unerring foresight, like the prophets of old. I've always known that it comes with a price, but if I'm to be absolutely true to myself, I want all of that for myself. Maybe not for now - the real world comes in the way and I have this burgeoning career (in software development, of all things) and obligations to accomplish. I have so many ladders (social, financial, career) I must climb and so many expectations to fulfill and I know it shall all be mine in the future because I'm not afraid to work my ass off and I think I have at least the requisite skill for them. But one day, when I'm allowed to let all that noise die down, I want to finally explore that which I've always set my heart on. And I'm willing to give so much, to experiment with anything, to find all the resources and gather the requisite experts to achieve it. I know that traffic with these substances is but one path to that goal, but thanks for what you've shared, isawhale. I swear on my heart that I've never tried drugs before, never even been tempted due to my upbringing so that was very fascinating. But yeah, maybe in the future. . .
~D~ Posted October 2, 2017 Posted October 2, 2017 i dont think booze would be good when reading cards....Maybe pot would make it interesting, and if you were use to doing LSD and had a tad of control, then card reading would be pretty intense....and colourful).
Trogon Posted October 5, 2017 Posted October 5, 2017 I have a friend who brews his own beer and throws parties for Halloween/Samhain, Yule and Beltane at least (he's Pagan). I almost always take a Tarot deck over when I go. I will say that Tarot readings can really flow when the beer, whisky, wine and other things are flowing as well. I can do very good, very intuitive readings when I've got a fair buzz going. However, there is a tipping (or should I say "tippling") point - when I get too much alcohol I find that it can start becoming more difficult to make sense of the images, sounds, and so forth that come to me. Not to mention that I can become somewhat unable to communicate the ideas as effectively. So, some alcohol ... a good thing, but there is a limit. As for drugs ... I haven't used marijuana since the '70's. From things I remember, I expect that some would be an aid to visions and such, so it might help you to really connect during a reading. But again, moderation would be key. I've considered trying to get some salvia divinorum plants and give that a try. It might be especially useful for meditative states, for scrying, visions, and so forth. From everything I've read about it, it is quite good to work with. Again moderation. Plus, I think with marijuana, salvia, peyote, or any other such substance, I would almost certainly want to set up protections ahead of time and with almost all of them, I'd probably want someone experienced in it with me - a Shaman for example. Though with salvia or very small quantities of marijuana, I might be okay, as everything I remember from marijuana usage, my visions were quite benign, though I didn't understand them back then.
EmpyreanKnight Posted October 5, 2017 Author Posted October 5, 2017 That was very useful info, Trogon, and I'm archiving it for future reference. You're right that one should have a competent guide around these things when one explores them, along with someone who has some medical experience should the need arise. Thanks a mil. :D
chongjasmine Posted October 8, 2017 Posted October 8, 2017 I don't drink or take drugs, so I never read under influence. What is it like to be drunk? I am curious as I never drink. I cannot stand the taste of alcohol.
Trogon Posted October 9, 2017 Posted October 9, 2017 I don't drink or take drugs, so I never read under influence. What is it like to be drunk? I am curious as I never drink. I cannot stand the taste of alcohol. I would say that if you can't stand the taste of alcohol, you needn't worry about what it's like. ;D But it affects different people in different ways. In general I find that, in regards to the original topic, having some alcohol helps me to drop some of my "shyness" for want of a better term (though, I've worked past that for the most part over the years). It also helps me to release some of the self-doubt I experience when interpreting certain cards, or if an interpretation varies too far from the book meaning. But there is a point one can easily cross when drinking alcohol, or imbibing any other intoxicating substance. It is easy to go too far, drink too much and have things go awry. Then you can get quite ill, your intuition and other skills/powers can go all over the place, you lose your focus. Then there is the hangover the next morning. If you have no desire to drink alcohol, just continue abstaining from it.

I try to drink to get the 'high' feeling, but it is unsuccessful as I don't really like the taste.

I try to drink to get the 'high' feeling, but it is unsuccessful as I don't really like the taste. It makes me "talkier", more social. I enjoy being around people more. It makes music sound better. But it's not the same for everybody, obviously. Some people are angry drunks who want to fight every time they drink. Some people get on crying jags. Some people just get really stupid.

When one gets somewhat intoxicated, it might feel a little bit like when you stand up too fast and feel a little light-headed. But it goes beyond that. So, you've got to take that "light-headed" feeling and add it to what everyone else is describing, then add in the other factors of how you might be feeling when you start out the evening, or other things that might change it for that one time.
