offramp Posted September 22, 2019 Posted September 22, 2019 Hello to everyone here. I used to be at the Aeclectic Forum and I was sad to see it go. My first deck was the original Oswald Wirth tarot, bought for me by a girlfriend about 38 years ago. Currently I like Liber T Stars Eternal and the old Swiss 1JJ. I occasionally do readings for myself, but I mainly use the cards as companion in lonely times. In 2001 I became a Freemason with UGLE in London; a wonderful experience!
Raggydoll Posted September 22, 2019 Posted September 22, 2019 Welcome! So many of us were sad to see AT go but this forum has become a wonderful substitute. You will find lots of old and new friends, and I’m sure you will love it here!
stephanelli Posted September 22, 2019 Posted September 22, 2019 Welcome to the forum! I was never a part of AT but I hope you'll find it lovely here!
gregory Posted September 22, 2019 Posted September 22, 2019 Welcome from another refugee. What name were you under there ?
NoellaRoyce Posted September 22, 2019 Posted September 22, 2019 Welcome welcome! The Liber T looks beautiful; do you find notable differences in reading Thoth decks versus RW or Marseilles?

At that labyrinthine site I was also Offramp. I took the name from a character in Mark Leyner's very funny book The Tetherballs of Bougainville: Offramp Tavanipupu. Oddly, in Britain we don't have off-ramps!

The Liber T looks beautiful; do you find notable differences in reading Thoth decks versus RW or Marseilles? The Liber T is darker and, crucially, sexier than the original Thoth. I have never used an original RW tarot as I find the cards rather twee. However, I have cards based on RW which I like, such as the dazzling and dazzlingly-misnamed Tarot of the Illuminati. I always thought the Thoth cards to be at times unclear; they were painted in that 1930s Vorticist style which has now disappeared. The Liber T clarified all that and added its own clever and funny bits and pieces. That's why I like it!

Oh - I went to look and couldn't see you ! Never mind. We just have exits in the UK. Including a rather big one just now !

Many thanks to everyone who welcomed me, and sincere greetings to everyone else.

Very interesting, thank you - was just reading how it was created by a Thoth expert, which must make all the difference in the world! I have a Thoth deck I bought as in college (the Rohrig) that I've never used because I find it intimidating, but have been thinking of getting over that. The Tarot of the Illuminati is indeed dazzling, agreed agreed!
offramp Posted September 28, 2019 Author Posted September 28, 2019 Here is a card I drew. https://www.instagram.com/p/B21XlhqA3Gl/?igshid=1xw82swdl0wgk
