Seeker Posted October 1, 2017 Posted October 1, 2017 I'm an old guy presently residing in West Virginia, USA. I have tried using divinatory cards without success. I even went so far as to create my own deck based on the 72 angels and shuffle them by throwing them up in the air in a version of '52 card pick-up' but alas no success, but maybe some of your wisdom can help.
EmpyreanKnight Posted October 1, 2017 Posted October 1, 2017 Hi Burl and welcome to the Forums! Oh wow, you created your own Tarot deck based on the 72 angels of the Shemhamphorash? I'm curious tho: there are 78 cards in a standard Tarot deck. Did you add 6 angels to complete the attributions?
Seeker Posted October 1, 2017 Author Posted October 1, 2017 I didn't add the missing cards to add up to the amount in a standard Tarot deck. Should there be 78?
EmpyreanKnight Posted October 1, 2017 Posted October 1, 2017 I didn't add the missing cards to add up to the amount in a standard Tarot deck. Should there be 78? If you planned to create a Tarot deck, I think there should at least be 78 cards and it must at least follow the Majors-4 Suits structure. But hey maybe you created an oracle, which isn't bad at all as oracles can be a pretty effective divinatory tools by themselves. As a parallel to your case, Ariana Osborne created the Daemon Tarot, which has 69 cards that contain all the demons from de Plancy's Dictionnaire Infernal. It's only labelled a Tarot, but it's really an oracle. Few people succeed at creating their own divinatory deck, so that's still quite a feat, Seeker :)
Seeker Posted October 1, 2017 Author Posted October 1, 2017 I acknowledge your experience. Wow, your post history is informative...Can you advise?(Question retracted)
Em Posted October 1, 2017 Posted October 1, 2017 Hi Seeker! Welcome to Tarot, Tea and Me! It is nice to have you here :-* Em
EmpyreanKnight Posted October 2, 2017 Posted October 2, 2017 Yeah, definitely! And it's not just me - if you have any question, you can just post it in the relevant subforum and if any of us can answer it, we'd only be glad to help. I'm also still exploring the world of Tarot myself, and I know that I've still got so much to learn. I hope we can both make good progress in our studies here. :)
Seeker Posted October 2, 2017 Author Posted October 2, 2017 Naturally we hope this conveyance will weather the tempest and as a former sailor myself my first instinct is to patch the holes and in that regard perhaps someone could change the "I agree not to" in the site rules to: "I agree to try not to" so we're not all practically branded liars from the get-go.
Trogon Posted October 2, 2017 Posted October 2, 2017 Hi Seeker! Very glad to have you with us. And, as EmpyreanKnight already said, it sounds more like you created an Oracle deck. By "definition" a "Tarot" deck is 78 cards, 22 Major Arcana and 56 Minor Arcana divided into 4 suits. But, as you will find ... in the world of Tarot an Oracle decks, "definitions" are not very definitive. ;D So welcome aboard shipmate! (I'm ex-Navy - was in for 8 years; '74 - '82.) Glad you're here and I look forward to your input (and questions).
Seeker Posted October 4, 2017 Author Posted October 4, 2017 My sailing was as an indentured (heh, heh) jib-manager to a graduate of Kings Point. We did the inside passage to the Med thru the canals of France and the outside passage thru the Strait of Gibralter before the boat met an inglorious end upon a submerged piling in the Gulf of St. Tropez.

We did the inside passage to the Med thru the canals of France and the outside passage thru the Strait of Gibralter before the boat met an inglorious end upon a submerged piling in the Gulf of St. Tropez. Well, I'd still call you shipmate. ;) I remember going through the Straits of Gibraltar in a submarine. Went through at night, we were able to stay moderately deep. But it was an "all-hands on deck" sort of thing, with all the watertight doors closed and people manning all the ventilation cutoffs in case of collision. You could hear some of those bigger cargo ships through the hull. :o Of course, after our time in the Med, we had to transit back out ...
Seeker Posted October 8, 2017 Author Posted October 8, 2017 Confined in a box with a nuclear reactor we might expect one to develop an observable trait ;D
Trogon Posted October 20, 2017 Posted October 20, 2017 Confined in a box with a nuclear reactor we might expect one to develop an observable trait ;D Well, the glow has worn off ... ;D But if you mean the insanity? That already ran in my family ...
