Longtime Solitary Tarot Fan Seeking Out Community

Hello, all! I'm Audra -- just joined the forum this morning. I stumbled over this forum while googling reviews of an oracle deck, and I was immediately intrigued. I've been studying tarot for forever on my own -- via books and personal practice -- but I haven't participated in many of the tarot communities (lurked for a very long time on some Yahoo Groups-based tarot discussion lists, though). I turned 40 this summer and feel like I need to change up how I do things, including my current tarot practice, so here I am! I started reading in 1996 or so, and did heavy study for quite a while before I found myself mostly collecting decks and not working with them. About two years ago I decided to shed most of my collection to a handful of decks I love, and it has really re-invigorated my practice. Then I was introduced to the world of indie decks, mostly via Kickstarter, and I'm back to collecting -- but I find I'm using those decks more (like the recent release, The Muse Tarot, which surprised me by really resonating with me!).

 

I'm based in the Boston-area, live with my wife and nearly 5-year-old son, a handful of cats and a new puppy. My wife is the livestock manager at a local organic farm, which has been a huge change for me as I'm a classic City Mouse. It's been very eye-opening to be somewhere rural and more connected to food and growing cycle, and I have seen my interpretation and understanding of cards and other woo stuff shifting, which is interesting. Professionally, I work in communications for a national non-profit dedicated to liberal causes. I'm an aspiring novelist, avid reader (I keep a book blog -- unabridgedchick.net), knitter, amateur mixologist.

Hi Audra!  What an exciting life you have!  I know the culture shock of moving from city to country.  I went from Astoria Queens in NY to living in the center of Iowa.  But it was fun and exciting!  Now I'm back in Florida where it's hot.  I look forward to seeing more of your posts throughout the forum.
