Carla Posted September 27, 2019 Posted September 27, 2019 (edited) Who is/was Dawn R Jackson? Maybe someone here knows. She wrote a wonderful method of playing card reading she titled 'The Wise and Subtle Arte of Reading Cards...as examined by a witch who practices said arte'. You can view this document here: https://spells.neocities.org/exceptional.html For years, I have been able to recite 'For the Witch of Poor Memory', and I strongly suggest, if this system appeals to you, that you do the same. It is very helpful. The second section of the document is called 'For the Witch of Middling Memory', and the third, unfinished (as I understand it), section is called 'For the Witch of Exceptional Memory: The Picturebook Compleat.' Dawn R Jackson published a book called 'Cottage of the Hedgewytch', which is apparently out of print. I believe that most of that book is included on the site linked above. I do not know the story of what happened to Dawn R Jackson, where she is, who she is, or why her work ceased. Any light you can shed would be appreciated. I had admired and studied The Wise and Subtle Arte for a few years before Camelia Elias's book, 'Marseille Tarot: Towards the Art of Reading' came out. Elias refers to Jackson and says that she uses Jackson's meanings, or rather that her method of reading is closest to Dawn's. As you can see from my avatar, I am 'Camelia'd, Valiente'd and Kondo'd' -- heavily influenced by Camelia Elias, Doreen Valiente (she's my avatar, reading Thoth), and Marie Kondo, the Japanese tidying maven, not necessarily in that order. I have a complete set of Valiente's books (including a treasured first edition of her important book, Natural Magic), two of Elias's books ('Marseille Tarot' and 'The Oracle Travels Light: Principles of Magic with Cards'), and 'Wise and Subtle Arte' painstakingly copied by hand into a blank book. It seemed the witchy thing to do. I will (I hope) be posting lots of new threads based on Jackson's 'Wise and Subtle Arte' system, which I also call 'Hedgewytchery style'. Does anyone know anything about Dawn R Jackson's story? Her background with the cards? The source for her writings? What happened to her? Where is she now? Anything? There is an old blog here: http://webwytchery.blogspot.com Edited September 27, 2019 by Carla typos
Luketha Posted January 24 Posted January 24 Dawn Rene Jackson, unfortunately, passed away in 2020 due to health complications. She made significant contributions to the cartomancy and witchcraft communities, and her efforts to preserve and share knowledge have undoubtedly left a lasting impact. I’d like to provide some clarity on the origins of the work and updates regarding its history. It’s important to note that Jackson was not the original author of The Wise and Subtle Arte of Reading Cards. The writings were created by an individual known as An Arteful Anonymous Witch, as specified on Jackson’s original website. The articles themselves are explicitly attributed to An Arteful Anonymous Witch, not Jackson. Her role was that of a publisher who helped share the work with a wider audience. Since her passing, Jackson’s working group, House Corax, has reinstated her original website at https://hedgewytchery.com. Additionally, they successfully reached out to An Arteful Anonymous Witch, who completed the final section of the cartomancy series. The complete version of The Wise and Subtle Arte of Reading Cards can be found here: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DTKFC7D9 I hope this information helps provide context to this remarkable system. It is inspiring to see how both Jackson’s contributions continue to resonate within the community.
fire cat pickles Posted January 24 Posted January 24 There is also Dawn Jackson's original site republished here: https://hedgewytchery.com/ I'm not sure how much it differs from the book you can get from amazon.

Yes, that is the site that I mentioned in my last post. 😄 2 hours ago, Luketha said: Since her passing, Jackson’s working group, House Corax, has reinstated her original website at https://hedgewytchery.com. The Picturebook Compleat contains information on the final two spreads, the Temple of Fortune and the Great Throw.
