About a week ago my wife and I had a serious argument. I forget about what exactly now, since it's been resolved, chalk it up to the male brain, but at the time Intuition said the only way we can truly find a resolution to our disagreement was through the Tarot.

The problem is, she doesn't believe in the Tarot.

About the third day and the issue has not yet been resolved, but all the emotions and anger have somewhat settled, we decided to talk calmly about it. Still no seeing eye-to-eye on the topic, though, but I finally pulled out my deck, shuffled it, and fanned it in front of her. She rolled her eyes, and I said, pick ten cards.

She did, choosing ten cards that were right next to each other.

Lo and behold, the Celtic Cross allowed me to talk about my deep insecurities (yes, we, the masculine of the species, have a ton of them) with her. The cards showed them and I read the cards and detailed these insecurities. I have never been able to talk about these with her.

The advice card said (cue in audience laughter sound effects): Listen to your wife on this issue. She's in the right. I was in the wrong. So that's what I did. Issue resolved.

It is funny to talk about it now, but I am glad, in a way, that the Universe used the Tarot to side with her. I think after that incident she had a better view of the Tarot not as coming from the devil, but an objective tool that helps in major decision-making.

Thanks for listening!

I'm curious as to what her reaction to Tarot is after having that experience.  Did she change her mind any about the cards?

This is something I find really compelling about tarot: the way it can give such relevant outside perspective on a matter, in a way that makes sense to the reader. It’s great that you were able to use it as a tool to restore communication between you and begin moving forwards from your conflict. I can only think this would make a positive impression on someone!

Hi, Grizabella! I love how your name is a nod to one of my favorite musicals!

My wife's a doctor and very scientific-minded. I have often tried to defend the Tarot as another form of the Rorschach test, only no inkblots but archetypal art. After that incident, she indeed has changed her mind about it and saw the psychology behind it. While this insufficient view cannot encompass the rich history behind the Tarot, I think as far as she's concerned, it's a step towards neutralizing her prior aversion towards it. I didn't want to go into detail with her that the Tarot is also linked to Numerology, Qabalah, Astrology, Spellcasting, etc.

Hi, Albadawn! Thank you. And I agree on how the Tarot does give us perspective. And her experience has been positive overall. Had I been less of an ethical reader, I would've tilted the reading towards my favor, but then the points would be lost.

I just strongly identified with Grizabella in the Catss movie. An old lady cat who is still kind of glamorous in a dated way and is still hanging in there. My glory days were when disco was popular. I loved it! It was a great opportunity to jazz it up a bit and feel glamorous. I went through the cowboy craze, too, and I even had cowboy boots but disco was my favorite.

That's way cool! I can't wait to see the movie 🙂
