Sadly MOST decks on ebay these days seem to be pirated.

I'd suggest Alida Store and tarot.nl - I have bought decks from both without any problems. Both websites have English versions. There is also www.tarotworld.com - it's the website of AGM Muller publishers.

yes, piracy is a big and bad thing currently 😞

Heads up - amazon owns abe.

I look for sellers - there and on amazon - and then go to their own websites.

This is how I do it too, I don't support evil corporations if I can avoid it.

Specifically for tarot decks, in the UK there are also the following -

The Wootique - https://thewootique.com/

Oneness Emporium - https://onenessemporium.co.uk/

JP Games (games stockist but have an excellent tarot selection) - https://jpgamesltd.co.uk/index.php?route=product/search&search=tarot

In the EU I've found the following -

Salon Des Arcanes (in France) - https://salondesarcanes.fr/categorie-produit/tarots/

Tarot.nl (in the Netherlands, already mentioned but worth repeating I think). (left the link out for this one as it pushed my over the URL limit for the post).

Haus Nostromo (in Germany, one of the most beautifully curated stores ever and one of my personal faves) https://hausnostromo.com/

I've made some amazing purchases in Wallapop (second hand decks, barely used). Some of them were kickstarter proyects of amazing quality. I've also found some "less known" decks like the Medieval Scapini Tarot, and I am obssessed with it. Here are some recs for buying tarots or oracles there:

🔸Be careful with the AliExpress copies. Some people are trying to resell them for a higher price on wallapop 💀💀i fell for the trap once, the quality is awful. Anything that is a really small box with a QR Code is almost for sure a false copy. Look for "home made" photos, bigger boxes and guidebooks. If it's an original it will be pretty clear.

🔸Search for the names of the decks your are interested in, or specific systems: Lenormand, Marseille...and see what pops up.

🔸When you are purchaising a deck/buying a product on wallapop, the shipping costs will appear immediately before confirming the transaction. This gives you the opportunity to see whether you think it's expensive or not, and to back out if you're not convinced.

🔸Browse the recent or popular sections; that's how I found a few interesting decks!

🔸You can add a "collection point" if you you're not sure you'll be home when the package arrives. This gives you a very generous number of days to go and pick it up at that location (usually a locker or a shop of some kind near your House). Is really safe and practical.

🔸This app also has a "damage check", and it gives you a period of days to check that everything is in good condition and that it arrived as it appeared in the application. The money you paid is held by the application until you give the go-ahead saying: hey, everythings good! And then the app gives it to the seller. That's why most of them try to do everything right.

🔸You can also add decks or books you are interested in to your favorites. That's my favorite way of deciding, to see if I really want that deck or not. Also, when some time has passed since the seller has listed a product, they usually lower the price. So waiting can give you good discounts!

Other options: bookstores (indie or big companies), esoteric shops obv, Arcana Barcelona for the spanish witches 🇪🇦, Etsy, maybe Vinted??

I will attach a photo of decks i bought on Wallapop 💓:

You've reminded me @Pruvia to mention Vinted, thank you, I've found some really lovely preloved decks on the platform. I've sold some too and so far it's been a good experience.

This is obviously with the same caveat that you point to in your post, there are a lot of sellers listing counterfeit decks and trying to make a quick profit.

Thank you for the answer @KiMo!, it's really helpful because I haven't bought any yet from Vinted, so it's good to know you've had good experiences 👀. And yes, one have to be careful about the counterfeit decks, sadly.

Have you browsed through Etsy at all?  There all lots of indie decks on there that are really beautiful.  You can also set your search as to only see products from the UK.

I also try to avoid Amazon when possible.
In the EU I’ve had good experiences with independent esoteric shops and smaller online retailers.
I’ve also discovered some very special and unique decks through Kickstarter — especially indie projects that don’t reach mass market distribution.
It takes a bit more patience, but sometimes you find real gems there.

If you don't want to use Amazon, I think Llewellyn Worldwide also sells tarot decks and oracle decks.

I find (UK) eBay to be an interesting source ...but ONLY if you put THESE words into the search facility: tarot pre owned.

It looks as if most of the decks that are advertised as pre-owned seem genuine.  They are usually pictured with boxes (some quite scuffled) and many of the cards on display.  There are some really rare and desirable decks listed in this category, although some of the prices reflect rarity and desirability.  Can't guarantee none are pirated, but they're worth a look.  I've ordered from them a couple of times and had good results.  This might be a great source of out-of-print decks, if you don't mind being a second owner.

Recently I have started to really avoid Amazon if at all possible for ethical reasons. Some things are much cheaper from Amazon and so I am imperfect but I do try not to buy books and decks from them now at least.

I wrote about Hive earlier in the thread and now use it. These are my suggestions that I have bought from and had a good experience from the UK....

These are for new decks / books....

Bookshops (which have tarot / divination sections)....

Hive - https://www.hive.co.uk/

Bookshop - https://uk.bookshop.org/ (They also have US and Spain versions)

Both bookshops pay all corporate taxes due in the country they operate in and have ethical credentials

Specific Tarot / Esoteric Shops....

Tarot Shop UK - https://the-tarot-shop.co.uk/ great range and starter kits for people starting out

Holistic Shop UK - https://www.holisticshop.co.uk/divination/tarot-cards a really massive site of anything holistic related.

The Zen Shop UK - https://thezenshop.co.uk/collections/tarot-cards

Little Red Tarot Shop - https://littleredtarot.com/shop/ great for self-published and indie decks, especially LGBT+ / Queer themed decks

The Wootique - https://thewootique.com/ They often have a banner on our site. Great for indie decks and imports from around the world

I haven’t checked to see if anyone has posted this one yet but www.powells.com  (Powell’s Books) is another place to look for decks and books.  It’s a huge bookstore on the West Coast (Portland, Oregon) and according to the webpage, boasts five locations.  They have an internet shopping site for those in the states trying to avoid using Amazon.

In Scandinavia (and Denmark) you have Adlibris.
