Symph
Just now, xTheHermitx said: I think you are the first person ver to consider the Beatles "heavy"... Lol, I didn't quite mean it like that, more so that as a kid I was only listening to amy grant and soft pop hits etc. Hearing the beatles songs like helter skelter and I am the walrus were some of my first introductions to heavier music, also songs like "I want you". I mean the beatles were all over the place but when they wanted to be shocking they did it well, I know alot of it was "cute" by today's standards, but I don't quite see it that way, they dominated their market in a really badass way. But I said that more because I grew up on beatles, my mother allowed me to listen to them in my very conservative home. Def leppard was one of the first "heavy" bands I was ever allowed to listen to. So what I'm saying is, "Outside of the beatles heavier stuff, def leppard was like the first really heavy band I ever listend to".

I would suggest checking out some of my playlists, my punk one is especially fun imo. I love my Acid Rock one too but it's not for everyone, those 60's recordings are pretty primitive even though the songs are aMAAAAAZING.
xTheHermitx
Checked out your tarot playlist...lots of stuff I would not have expected, but it is cool for me to see how other people prepare their minds to read. Music is my first love in life, and music is it's own Qabbalah to me...their is so much mystery to music...so many secrets.
-fenrir-
Maybe we should take this to the chatter room 😉 On 11/16/2019 at 6:16 AM, xTheHermitx said: I loved the first Agnostic Front album...Victim In Pain...also the early Cromags stuff... funny cause to me, Hatebreed was the beginning of metalcore...I tried reeeaaallll hard to get into Biohazard and Warzone, but just couldn't. All of my friends were, but I just didn't feel it. Same with the Misfits and Dead Kennedy's...I always "got in trouble" with my punk friends for not liking those 2 groups. Aus Rotten and Caustic Christ were just awesome!!! I loved a lot of the Havoc Records stuff, and Felix Havoc stayed at my house one night after a show here in town.. Yeah, maybe, but you don't want to compare Hatebreed with todays bands like Parkway Drive or Bring me the Horizon *shudder*, right? You mean you never escalated in the pit during Too Drunk To F*ck?! katrinka
I never required soft music for study. I just listen to whatever I'm listening to anyway. This was around the time that I was still pretty new to Tarot. Hofheinz Pavilion in Houston, IIRC - young Katrinka was there - good times! I had stuff like this on the stereo all the time and managed to learn the basics.

I can not study in complete silence though. My brain wanders instantly in silence. I also can't sleep in silence for the same reason. I have a fan going all the time for the noise ,and the cool air. (I also sleep with the window open down to 40*...have to have a cool room)
Barleywine
I'm not into music for its "white noise" content, so I prefer silence when I read or study. If I'm going to have music on, I want to pay attention to it, which would distract me from anything else. Way back when we were all using cassette tapes, I had a bunch of Kitaro (which was kind of like atmospheric, New Age-y, instrumental early Pink Floyd - sort of like Echoes) that I played for background. I tend to study/pay attention in spurts, and then "rest", and then come back to it the studying. The rest is usually me air drumming, or singing or banging my head to the music. I never have new music on because I am usually studying the music.
Grace
As beautiful as 'classical' music is, I have my own reasons for not using it to get into that space. Probably because I grew up learning those pieces from a very young age, I can't help but judge the interpretation, and I'm a pretty picky bitch and unforgiving when they aren't played the way I perceive as 'right'. 🤣 But I'm big on shamanic journeying, and will use a voyaging soundtrack with prep, drumming, and call back to get me in the zone. If you use any meditation apps, there might be something there you could use - I enjoy nature sounds personally. However, if you like metal there is a Polish band called Batushka that do some pretty atmospheric old slavonic black metal.

katrinka
When I work parties, there's music. I usually have music on at home, and when I don't, the neighbors usually do and it's pretty loud. (I don't mind, they listen to a good variety of rock, old country, and Tejano - I enjoy it.) I've read for people in clubs, all kinds of places. If I can hear them and they can hear me, it's all good. I don't have music on when I do phone readings, but that's because I'm trying to hear the other person, not because of any potential distraction. There's no reason for reading abilities to be adversely affected by music. Most people listen to music while driving - and a mistake behind the wheel is potentially much more damaging than miscalling a card or two. But every day, people hook up the aux plug and manage to get where they're going with no harm done. Edited March 29, 2020 by katrinka

If it's not music, it will be something else. Traffic, sirens, barking dogs, crying babies, drunks, whatever. Get out of the city and there's other noises, like roosters that never shut up. None of this should get in the way. I blame the schools somewhat. They push the idea that everything is "distracting", from sounds to piercings to sleeveless blouses. It's insane. Nobody should need a silent, windowless room to get anything done. And I don't care if the guy in the next row is tattooed head to toe and wearing pasties, lol. Just do the work. Hahahaha Brilliant! I love your quotes 🤣 But never a truer word spoken! But this said... All this comes with experience, not so sure someone coming into reading fresh faced and still learning the craft would be well advised to start reading in a club with all its distractions. But having said that too, reading for a bunce of mates and other folks who are wasted anyway. Chances they remember what was said is slim lol. Plus a bit of booze can go a long way to boosting your confidence. A bit of dutch courage an all that 😉 But I'm not saying you should and I'm not saying you shouldn't lol. It's mainly about your own comfort levels really...

Used to breed the workers and consumers to keep the 1% where they were.... and I actually have no problem with "Stand Still and Shut Up" type discipline when it is necessary. The USMC is "First in, last out", it's often life or death, there needs to be a united front and things have to be right. Discipline can be what saves you from getting your a$$ shot. Third period algebra isn't war, though. And even the Marines allow for things like tattoos. 12 minutes ago, xTheHermitx said: being a teacher, I have to understand how to use all types of crowd control.
