Symph Posted November 7, 2019 Posted November 7, 2019 I have a few decks that have very slippery/glossy finishes and it makes them quite annoying when shuffling and resting cards on top of each other. Anyone got a hack to make them less slippery? I read on one site to try essential oils, I did this with one deck but it didn't really work, just made my deck smell really good, which I'm not complaining about but I still have slippery cards! 😡
ashjey Posted November 7, 2019 Posted November 7, 2019 not an expert on this by any means, but if you think its the finish, then maybe you could lightly sand one or both sides of your cards?

Raggydoll Posted November 7, 2019 Posted November 7, 2019 The only real method is to use the cards until the heavy lamination wears off slightly. Sanding them is not something I would recommend because you could easily remove the entire lamination and then the cards will be very vulnerable and won't last as long. Same with oils, its a really bad idea. The sides of the cards will absorb it and your deck can deteriorate. Aside from that, oils go rancid.

That's probably the best thing to do, shuffle like crazy lol
Hedera Posted November 7, 2019 Posted November 7, 2019 Edging them seems to help a bit, especially if you use an ink that sits on top of the surface, rather than one that sinks into it

Guest Posted November 7, 2019 Posted November 7, 2019 You can use a mixture of two tablespoons of flour and cornstarch. Mix the cards in it and then brush off with a cloth (denim is good). It can also be used to clean the cards.
katrinka Posted November 7, 2019 Posted November 7, 2019 Zinc stearate (fanning powder) works, too. It not only makes sticky cards slip, it makes slick cards less slippery. It gives any deck just the right amount of slip, no more. Go figure. 😉
