_R_ Posted April 18, 2020 Posted April 18, 2020 Once again, we should note that the English translation of J.-C. Flornoy's book, "Seeing the World – Tarot Signposts on the Path to Perception" is available, notably from his website. Although his ideas are somewhat idiosyncratic, so are pretty much everyone else's where the Tarot of Marseilles is concerned, and this book has its place in the meagre literature available on the subject in English.
Vidal Posted April 18, 2020 Posted April 18, 2020 I agree with what you say, and while flornoy was known in some circles to be a sort of Don Juan matus to other people's Castaneda, I still find his approach to be on the safe side of symbolism, a sort of prude freemason, mild esoteric, worldview, only a few notches above Oswald Wirth. Which is why, not being a specialist of tarot, I nevertheless found tchalaï's understanding to be much more interesting, because her point of view is to start from the cards itself rather than from a corpus of predigested knowledge of what the old guys said before (the old guys not always being very commendable people, evola, papus, Crowley...) So she starts with immersion and contemplation and builds it from the ground upwards, or horizontally. Much more interesting I find

So she starts with immersion and contemplation and builds it from the ground upwards, or horizontally. This is the entire point of her method - to begin from scratch, to approach the Tarot on its own terms, and to look directly at the cards and find their own specific logic. Viewed from this angle, being a "specialist" constitutes more of a handicap than an advantage. 5 hours ago, Vidal said: Much more interesting I find You are not the only one, hence this thread!
