What it means to me to follow my passion... how did Tarot show up in your life?

Hello and Thank You!

I am fairly new to tarot although I have had decks for several years - I never opened them or even really knew anything about it. This concept has been labeled taboo and scary - dabbling in the devils work or tainted by Satan - in my circles and it has been quite a shift for me to do it anyway. The weight of possibly being rejected has been a real challenge for me to overcome - not completely there yet, but much closer. I trust that meeting and connecting with others will assist me along my journey.

I am a natural storyteller and find reading the cards exciting and beautiful. The art, the emotional expressions, the symbols, all of it, I love all of it.

Thank you for creating this safe space to learn and grow. I am happy to be here and look forward to participating.

And to add one additional detail, as I have healed and shifted my conditioning, I have learned this taboo wall was built out of my own fears as in my childhood, I played with cards all the time. I loved art and writing and stories. I shut this part of myself off to be what I thought I had to be for others to love me. I didn’t even realize it. Sad to think this happened, yet very grateful to be taking off the veil and embracing my true self.

Hi! I’m new here too and have such a similar story as you, and similar struggles with letting the tarot part of myself be “public” to certain friends and family. I wish you the best on this journey, too, and maybe we’ll see each other in the forums!

Welcome @FindYourSovereignty! I am glad you have rediscovered this part of yourself and decided to try out the tarot! For me personally I started using the cards a few years ago when I started seeing my now girlfriend. As a kid I was very interested in magick and all things like it. But as I got older, around middle to high school, I began to get more into science and reject anything along the lines of magick.  Once I went to college I kind of blended to two ideologies, which was brought out by my girlfriend.  I remember one of the first times hanging out with her she showed me her numerology book, and it piqued my interest again.  After that I wanted to better tune into my spirituality and magick, and turned to tarot cards. I am glad I was becoming more open-minded when I met here, and have become more so since then. I still believe in and love science, but I don't believe it negates the supernatural.  To me the "supernatural" is really just the natural that we don't understand yet!

Well anyways sorry for the rambling post.  Welcome again, I hope that being in a like-minded community will help you learn and grow!

@FlyingTacoMoose, amazing how people come into our lives and what can happen when we are open to receiving. Thank you for sharing!

I'm sorry to hear that, but I'm also glad you examined it over time and came to a different conclusion. I think a lot of the people I know casually + extended family consider it sort of... Woo, or oddball, but I don't have anyone genuinely convinced of a Satanic panic, thankfully. It's tough to work through when people genuinely think your soul is at risk.

Tarot came to me when I was in a ...weird place in my life. Strange new town, not unfriendly so much as small and quiet. I spent a lot of time alone out in nature, and ultimately piecemealed the first prototype of my tarot together over the course of six months or so as an artistic/psychological distraction. Then I found the cards helped me feel better for various situations, and I got more serious about it and ultimately made a more official version. I also picked up two standard Rider-Waite based decks, for relatively cheap in case I couldn't figure them out.

Kinda want to get a few more, but I also know that's a recipe for *collecting*, so I'm trying not to discover too many that have great designs....

Thank you. This definitely has made my interest very challenging for me, but I persevere because I do not feel the same - obviously - and I really love it. If they simply thought I was 'woo-woo', I think I could handle that better. Now a part of me still feels like I have to 'hide' it, which doesn't feel very good.

Interesting how we all come to it from different places and times in our lives, just when we need it or when it can help us most.

I am impressed that you have been able to avoid adding to your decks. I am definitely 'collecting'.
