Raggydoll Posted January 2, 2020 Posted January 2, 2020 So, have you indulged in a deck for the new year? Or are you contemplating buying one? Tell us! It doesn’t have to be just tarot, I’ll allow any type of decks here 😊 I have not made any purchases yet but when I do I’ll let you know ☺️
jupiter Posted January 2, 2020 Posted January 2, 2020 Ordered very late in 2019, I'm waiting for the Stretch Tarot and the QUAREIA Magician's Deck to arrive. So, technically, my 1st decks in 2020 🙂
Raggydoll Posted January 2, 2020 Author Posted January 2, 2020 Ooh the stretch tarot - a real favorite of mine!!
Flaxen Posted January 2, 2020 Posted January 2, 2020 I’m still waiting for some Kickstarter decks although they were paid for months ago so not sure they count. Tempted by the Light Seer’s Tarot of the newer mass market ones. I like what I’ve seen of the cards so far.

But they are in the grey zone I feel and hardly counts 😊 Just now, Flaxen said: Tempted by the Light Seer’s Tarot of the newer mass market ones. I like what I’ve seen of the cards so far. It’s a deck that I’m liking despite it not really being my ‘style’. I find it a wee bit too fluffy in the artwork sometimes (too much ‘energy swirls’ for certain readings, in my opinion) but it reads well and it’s perfect for spiritual or wellness topics.
destinyhunnie Posted January 2, 2020 Posted January 2, 2020 I didn’t buy any but I did receive a deck as a birthday gift as my birthday was New Year’s Eve. The Robin Wood Tarot I love it!

As far as 2020 goes I am trying unsuccessfully to not even think of buying decks because I waaaay overdid it last year. By the way, my last deck of 2019 was the Fountain Tarot, a Christmas present from a grandson, and I love it. Now I have to go somewhere quiet and repeat over and over "do not buy new decks do not buy new decks do not buy new decks"... And I know exactly where to go. I wonder how long it will be before someone finds me?
Eric13 Posted January 2, 2020 Posted January 2, 2020 24 hours into a new whole decade and I have not spent any money. Yet. Although I admit that I do want to buy a seriously vintage deck that's in excellent condition. I'm saving for one that I can do regular readi gs with.
katrinka Posted January 2, 2020 Posted January 2, 2020 I'm going to concentrate on buying other things for awhile. My futon needs replacing, it sags. The dogs need their teeth cleaned. I need some dental work too, and new glasses. None of this stuff is cheap, and anyway, I have plenty of decks. Eventually I'll see something that will make me relent, but I'd like to keep that as few and far between as possible.
bastetly Posted January 3, 2020 Posted January 3, 2020 (edited) Prer-ordered the re-issue of the Tarot of the Origins by Lo Scarabeo. Been wanting for years! Not sure if it's going to be successful for me as a reading deck or not really. But I want it. I want it. Has been given a new name: The Primordial. Comes out in August for those in the U.S. 11 hours ago, katrinka said: I'm going to concentrate on buying other things for awhile. My futon needs replacing, it sags. But even that would be a save up for investment for me. Take care of yourself and the dogs. Better use of hard-earned wages. Hope the New Year brings you some new opportunities 🙂 Edited January 3, 2020 by bastetly
DanielJUK Posted January 3, 2020 Posted January 3, 2020 I am waiting for a copy of the Vibra Tarot to come my way, it's just started being dispatched and was a crowd funded deck! I haven't bought any decks this year yet but it was on order and the last thing I am waiting for! I think I am buying too many decks and so I want to buy less this year, it's becoming too material. I never actually get to explore and use them. So I want to slow it down a little and want to buy max 4 or 5 decks all year, I may go over that but that's my intention! I am looking forwards to the Stretch Lenormand, crowd funder details to be public very soon I read! ❤️
FindYourSovereignty Posted January 3, 2020 Posted January 3, 2020 I have the Starseed Oracle arriving on January 7th, and because I have 3 tarot decks I pre-ordered, I am trying really hard to not order any others. I didn't realize how much the art would call to me - so many decks I want to have in my collection. It is crazy!
VGimlet Posted January 3, 2020 Posted January 3, 2020 I just ordered the Majestic Earth Tarot - I somehow missed when it was being created. 🙂 I have a lot of decks on order for this year through kickstarter and upcoming deck pre-orders. Also going to order the El Goliath after payday.

This ^^^ I want to be more discerning about adding decks to my collection as I know I haven't connected well with the decks that I already have. Being fairly new to tarot in 2019, I jumped in big and have 22 tarot and 25 oracle decks. I'd like to become more friendly with them before adding to the family.

In some ways, this is a more challenging time to start exploring tarot than it was 20-30 years ago. When I started you couldn’t buy decks on the internet and there were hardly any shops that sold decks in my country. There were mail order, yes, but their selection was small and the prices high. So my collection consisted of 1 deck for a long time and then 5 decks for quite some time (I got lucky and found a woman on a market stand that sold from her own collection of decks at a good price.) The limited selection meant that I usually couldn’t get a deck that I truly resonated with, so that was obviously a big downside. But it did also mean that I got to know all my decks exceptionally well and I also realized that you can give great readings even with decks you find ugly or you don’t resonate with. It doesn’t have to be THE deck.
Libra 58 Posted January 3, 2020 Posted January 3, 2020 I'm waiting for "Tarot of the Golden Wheel". Ordered it late last year, so it hasn't arrived yet.

As much as I love how beautiful and meaningful the variety of decks are, it has made buying them a big deal and almost equal to the importance/desire to learn about them - at least for me it has. I was really on the hunt for ‘the right one’ and was very fortunate to purchase several bundles from people selling them on Facebook which jumped my collection pretty quickly. I moved from ‘finding the right one’ to ‘decks that I love’ and now to ‘decks that serve different purposes’ - there are just so many beautiful, meaningful decks available. YouTube readings and deck reveals, as Monk would say, “It’s a blessing and a curse,” help me make better choices, but also show more more and more decks that call to me. Didn’t mean to ramble on like that, simply to share that I agree with you completely - getting started today is different. 😊 Edited January 3, 2020 by FindYourSovereignty
fire cat pickles Posted January 3, 2020 Posted January 3, 2020 I broke down and ordered the Bosch Tarot! It's been on my wishlist for a while and the price was right. (The price matched exactly the rewards points on my CapitolOne card, so it was a match made in "heaven" 😉 )

Eric13 Posted January 3, 2020 Posted January 3, 2020 Well, I don't know about that @Raggydoll, I myself really need to resonate with a deck. Being more selective with decks and waiting on the right feeling with them makes my readings flow smoother so this year I'm just going to wait until it feels right until I buy my first deck. I also think Im going to discover Oracle decks this year.

Since I do readings with all sorts of tools - even without tools - then it’s not super important for it to resonate on a visual level. I don’t know if it’s a personality thing or if it’s due to practice. I’ve read with many ugly decks out of sheer necessity, I’ve also read with plain playing cards or even my kids memory cards. The readings are different but usually the same as quality goes. Of course it’s lovely to use a deck that tickles your senses. I treasure being able to do that. But it’s not necessary for me. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and experiences!

That being said, when I do a reading, I feel that a certain deck will "call" to me, though this is a hyperbolic statement. A deck will stand out in my mind and I will choose it. But then I know that when I use this certain deck for a reading that there will be a card or cards drawn that will have a poignant resonance for me, adding a particular meaning and much needed message for me.
