NOT backing.

😊 okay! Good to know! Gathering this is not an actual tarot deck even though she kind of promotes it as one and designed it with 78 cards, majors and minors.

Thank you for your reply!

Frankly, I wouldn't know what to do with these.

I would. But tarot would have nothing to do with it. FYS is right - they aren't tarot.

I actually like them a bit. I would have liked them better as a oracle sized deck to add to my Thoth readings, though.

As it as, pass!

Throwness? And where is the tarot? Calling it tarot doesn't make it tarot, just makes it come up in Kickstarter searches. Thumbs down from me although I'd be pretty happy if I could draw like that.

Yes, this thought crossed my mind, too, however, she does claim she references each card in the guidebook to a card in the tarot. That made me think that she wanted to crack into the tarot market pool without actually producing a traditional tarot deck. 🤨

Throwness makes sense if it's for the Magician. Thrownness (Geworfenheit) is a concept introduced by German philosopher Martin Heidegger to describe humans' individual existences as "being thrown" (geworfen) into the world. Unless the artist meant the Fool. I don't know from what tarot tradition they come from. Heidegger made a huge indelible mark in modern philosophy. I think if this deck gets people interested in philosophy, that it's not a bad idea at all.

To me it looks more like an Oracle Deck with a philosophic background / theme then a Tarot Deck. For philosophic stuff the artwork does somehow fit pretty well to my understanding but i do not see the bridge that makes it a Tarot Deck, even if they relate a Tarot Card in their Guidebook. Also i am not sure how far the Artwork can carry all the very different aspects and ideas of Philosophy that they obviously try to cover there.

Probably a nice Oracle Deck for those who feel it resonates with, but not a Deck i'd see in the Tarot Deck Framework or would like to have or use.

I think it's outstanding. For anyone interested in or wanting to become interested in Existentialism, it must be fascinating to work with. The artwork is amazing.

It's not a tarot though indeed. It's not even an oracle. It's more of a textbook on philosophy through cards. I really like it. If I had time for existentialism, I'd buy it with a snap of my fingers. But I don't have much time for it. Apart from Camus who holds a very very special place in my heart.

I agree.

I'm actually reconsidering it to use as an oracle.

Again, I agree!

I never buy oracles as it doesn't suit the kind of person I am. Psychology and philosophy are how I unravel the world around me. So this deck would  actually suit me.

Camus I adore and he's used in the deck.

Nope... Not for me either. I'm not into Oracle decks (I only have a few, mostly historical ones). Also, I'm not a fan when the deck is more 78 "small print pieces of art", rather than an actual illustration of the card meaning.

Interesting way to look at decks. I am going to consider this now whenever I am looking at investing in new cards.

It depends for users. I have 2 decks that I'm selling right now. The illustrations on the cards are beautiful, but it is pieces of art, and they don't really depicts the meaning of the card, so I find it hard to interpret during a tarot reading. So, instead of not using them, I prefer to sell them. Or, I could cut the names of the card and use them in crafting like a scrapbook.

my feeling about portrait decks...78 cards with faces on them.

Morsoth, if you become a subscriber you can list your decks here, for sale, or for trade.
