Has anyone tried this app? I installed it in my Android, and oh it works! ;D

You know how it sometimes seems like you're trying to catch a real Pokemon in your drawer when you set the camera on in Pokemon Go? It says that it's in AR mode, right? Yup, that's what AR means - Augmented Reality.

Well this app is like that, except that when you put any Tarot card and look at it through this app + your smartphone's camera, some pretty awesome animation effects are invoked by the cards. A few keywords also appear on the card, and would change depending on whether it's upright or reversed.

I'd post a vid this weekend, just so you can see what I'm talking about. It's so cool! 8)

This sounds ridiculously cool, I'll have to check it out!

It does cost around a dollar in the Androud Play Store tho, but you'd enjoy it.

FAIR WARNING: I have tested it on the Smith-Waite Centennial, the Original Rider-Waite, and the Rider Tarot deck with the yellow box and checkered back. It works well with them, but there were complaints that it doesn't seem to with the other RWS clones like the Radiant Rider-Waite. Unless you have any of the three decks I mentioned, you may not want to avail of the app.

Oh, that's super disappointing! I think I got my hopes up too high; I thought it would work with any/most decks, not just the most basic originals. A lot less fun :/

Yeah that's a bit of a downer, but do watch out for my vid. It really is quite something. ;D

OK, here's the video I made with the Augmented Tarot app. I hope you enjoy it!

Wait Morsoth! You have two things to consider before doing so.

1. As I've mentioned previously, you must have the appropriate Tarot deck/s. It definitely works on the Smith-Waite Centennial, the Original Rider Waite, and the yellow box Rider Tarot deck. It doesn't seem to work for the Radiant. I dunno about the other decks.

2. Your phone specs must be able to handle it. My phone was a 2016 model (LG G5) running on Android 7.0, but it had a 4GB RAM so it ran smoothly. I don't think the site gave out specs tho. I'm pretty sure they have a version for the iOS.

Also, it costs less than a dollar from the Android Play Store from where I am. I had it a long time ago, and I only remembered to play with it now. ;D

There's an animation & meanings app for Ciro Marchetti's Kipper, too:

I imagine as time goes on we'll see more stuff like this. Maybe at some point there will be a single app that does multiple decks, or at least the common ones: Thoth, RWS, TdM, Lenormand...

That's not quite augmented reality, but you're right about it being a very entertaining animation app, katrinka. I guess this will be the wave of the future too, with highly interactive apps complementing the user's experience with the deck itself. This is going to be fun! ;D

Btw do you have the Fin De Siecle Kipper? Does the app work on the mass market version? This is so enabling, and yes I can sometimes fall for cheap gimmicks. :(

Yes, and who knows...they might come up with a virtual reality thing at some point where you can walk right into the cards.

Of course I have it, I co-authored the instruction book.

The app works on both versions.

Yes! These aren't something I'd use all the time, but they're fun...like going to a carnival. You know it's gimmicks but you don't really care.  ;D

I have the Centennial Edition and a "Yellow Box" Rider Waite, so I'm good! I have an iPhone 6 (that should be ok...?) but it's $5.49 on the iStore Canada. Anyway, I'll probably give it a try!

Yikes, that's around 5 times the price we had here. It's good thing your cost of living is higher than ours, but still.

Katrinka, you saucy vixen, I've been thinking and reading on and viewing vids on the Fin De Siecle Kipper for the last few hours. I can't keep it out of my mind since you showed it. I don't have any of Marchetti's Tarot decks since they didn't really move me, but then I remembered that I also have his Gilded Reverie Lenormand. That one I loved to bits, and looking at the art of both this and the Kipper, they're like a perfect diptych.

And it also has gilt edges but in silver this time, I think it's the same size, and they both come in matching sturdy boxes that have magnetic clasps too. This Fin de Siecle is like the moon to the Gilded Reverie's sun and I guess I can't have one without the other. :( Not to say that the Kipper can't stand on its own feet since it is really beautiful.

And katrinka, I read Bonnie's review of the Fin de Siecle and it listed three co-authors and of course you are S! I can't wait to try your spread once the deck gets to our shores next month. :D

I think you'll enjoy it. Kipper is addictive.  ;D

And since you've got some Lenormand experience, you're just about all set. Different cards, but the same techniques - combos, mirroring, etc.
