FallenAngel Posted July 29, 2021 Posted July 29, 2021 I have the RWS and am starting to learn. I'm not sure if I should try doing readings yet, so I'm starting with working through a card a day and journaling about it. I've started with the Major Arcana and even after just journaling about one card today (The Fool) I feel more understanding about the card and the character within it, and am hoping for the same with the others. I'm hoping this will bring a richness to my readings.
magicskills36 Posted August 17, 2021 Posted August 17, 2021 I just purchased a RW deck with definitions on the front in also shows the meanings reversed as well. My goal is to to uses them as flash cards and become more intuitive with the connections.
chongjasmine Posted December 4, 2021 Posted December 4, 2021 I like this deck because of its friendly images. It is not scary, not gross, not intimidating. The images are nice and not too violent or dark. Being a christian, that matters to me.
MichaelH Posted August 23, 2022 Posted August 23, 2022 I'm just starting with tarot myself and got a Radiant Rider-Waite deck. As I began to look online I did one of those 'which tarot deck should I get' online quizzes and it chose the Radiant one for me. So I went to a bookshop, looked at some of the other decks they had their and decided I wanted to start with a 'traditional' deck and that I really liked the radiant colours. At the moment I am starting to take a daily card and read about the meanings using a couple of books - I also bought The Little Book of Tarot and found a couple of e-books online as well. I've also started a journal to make notes of each daily card and to look for patterns over the next few weeks. The images are really beautiful and I love the deck so far.
LunarRose Posted September 18, 2022 Posted September 18, 2022 Does anyone have any good tips for understanding the court cards beyond their suit and rank?
gregory Posted September 18, 2022 Posted September 18, 2022 If it counts as a tip - Mary Greer's book is excellent. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Understanding-Tarot-Court-Special-Topics/dp/0738702862
LunarRose Posted September 18, 2022 Posted September 18, 2022 Thanks Gregory, that's so helpful. I am reading Tarot 101 by Kim Huggens at the moment. She has a chapter on court cards but I'm not thtlat far in yet. Will read you suggestion next 😃

I second Gregory’s suggestion. Mary Greers book is a classic for a reason. Another thing that helped me understand the courts was to try and see their personalities represented in real life people; celebrities and otherwise. I know that I once read a very entertaining list of suggestions of celebrity matches for all the court cards. It was something similar to this: https://www.tarotforum.net/showthread.php?t=153109
DanielJUK Posted September 18, 2022 Posted September 18, 2022 You can get Greer's books as ebooks / kindle editions as well. Her specialist tarot books range is so useful as a reference. I have this Court Cards book and the Reversals Book on my kindle on my laptop and turn to them quite a lot to get second opinions and advice 😀
gregory Posted September 18, 2022 Posted September 18, 2022 And her 21 Ways.... Kim Huggens is good too, mind !
LunarRose Posted September 18, 2022 Posted September 18, 2022 Wow, thank you everyone! Definitely have a few too add to my reading list now 😀
DanielJUK Posted September 18, 2022 Posted September 18, 2022 If you ever get stuck on a court card @LunarRose, you can always start a thread to discuss it on here as well. There are threads discussing per card in the Individual Card Meanings section. You could also start a thread discussing anything you learn about Court Cards outside the usual in the main Tarot discussion area 🙂 .
