Ammers Posted February 25, 2020 Posted February 25, 2020 (edited) Has anyone else played Sayonara Wild Hearts? It's this amazing pop-album rhythm game that came out last autumn to spectacular reviews and also won Arcade game of the year from the 2019 video game awards. The entire game is themed around the Major Arcana and your literally play as the Fool through around 20 stages of phenomenal soundtrack and varied gameplay. It's such an amazing game and only about an hour long if you don't have to repeat too many of the stages. It's like $12 or so and available on most platforms. Here is a full analysis of the game's use of Tarot (spoilers for everything of course): Sayonara Wild Hearts: Use of Tarot in Game Design and Narrative You play as the Fool, a heartbroken young woman who falls into a cosmic, arcane dreamworld in a search for self discovery and healing. She will encounter all the Major Arcana on her journey and learn to best them or use them. It has a very touching ending and I just... I loved it so much. Every Tarot fan who plays games should play this one. Below is a pic of the associated Tarot deck they sold at PAX West and some screen shots. 🙂 Edited February 25, 2020 by Ammers
AlbaTross Posted August 31, 2020 Posted August 31, 2020 That game looks really interesting. I'll have to check it out. Thanks! The Persona series is what comes to mind when I think of videogames depicting Tarot, as they certainly got me interested in it, even if I held off for years due to being told that Tarot is sorcery and something I should avoid. In hindsight the Persona deck would a pretty be a pretty terrible one if I had one IRL, but it did serve as an introduction to RWS Tarot.
