I'm new to the forum and really interested in the study group about playing cards. There’s a few topics in the study group, but no one has responded to any of them. Do you have to sign up or is it just a quiet part of the forum? Can I make my own topic? Do the study groups have rules/guides? Sorry for all the questions, and thanks in advance for the help!

I've noticed that, too. To be quite honest, the PC study topics in the study group forum really don't interest me. You'd be better off starting your own topics and have people join you in your conversations.

What technique are you interested in? I'm getting back into Hedgewytchery lately, and I'm planning on incorporating those meanings in my tarot readings later. I could use the PC practice and study.

It’s possibly because there are so many different PC systems - I use the ones from Kapherus’ blog.

A more open-ended study or sharing interpretations of a draw might open discussions.

😅

One of the big concerns I had when joining this forum was, when I first started learning tarot, all I had was playing cards and I couldn't really find any information on it, so I just kind of... Frankensteined a system together out of what I could find. (It's entirely possible that I was just super bad at trying to find the information, mostly because I didn't really have the words to describe what I was looking for at the time.)

So I'd actually be pretty interested in learning what's out there in terms of systems and techniques.

But I guess my next question is, can I still participate in readings and feedback if I'm not following any one system? Or is that going to mess everyone up? I've since gotten a few tarot decks, but I apply the same system I use for the PC to them.

Why would it be a problem? It's no different than a tarot study group, really, where people may use different styles and methods (Kabbalah, standard Golden-Dawn/Thoth, intuitive, hedgewytchery, family tradition, other cartomancy, astrology, etc.). As long as you're not going to be cramming your system down other's throats and telling us we're "wrong" or some other nonsense, which seems highly unlikely.

That makes perfect sense, and I appreciate you taking the time to answer my questions. I've not had much of a chance to talk to other tarot readers (or use forums, for that matter), so it's going to be a bit of a learning curve, I imagine, but I'm excited to share 🙂

Please feel free to participate no matter what system you use (if any) 🙂

This is a young forum and study groups have really been going for a year or so and some original study group organisers and starters are not active on the forum, so it's an area that is slowly taking off. I am sure in time that other people will add their own parts to the areas, they take a few years to really grow 🙂 But please @Norik share your own playing cards method and build up the playing cards study group! The Study Groups are for sharing how you see each card and sharing your ideas. There is a playing cards discussion area of the forum you might want to know about here and if you want to do any playing card exchanges, that area is here. Enjoy 🙂

I also have a question. There are a few decks I want to work through and I have been thinking to just put those thoughts in a journal. But maybe someone else would be interested in adding thoughts,so would it be ok to open a topic under Study Groups?

How about participating in the deck of the week?

Yeah I do that, but there is little point to list each and every cards and my thoughts on them there. It would just get buried and I won't

find it again. Also not going to limit it to a deck a week but whatever I want to actually look at, I find I am not that good with sticking to one deck.

@Arania, I truly enjoy the Deck of the Week group! I take the marvelous opportunity (think of that Ace being handed to you from a hand in a cloud 😄 ) to work with those dusty old decks I've had for years, just sitting in box in the closet --and actually start working with them --whether they or I like it or not! The group motivates me by just being there as I work through a deck --no pressures, but since I made the move to say I'm going to work with such-and-such a deck, I must stick to my word, right? 😄  I had to go into a second week with the deck I am currently working on because I had other commitments in other groups/circles, etc., but, I'm coming back this week and, again, working with that same deck! I also journal as I work with my chosen deck, so I can find what I've learned later on.

Start a journal. Join the Deck of the Week. See how you like it!

I think this is an excellent suggestion. And since a persons journal is their very own, then they can decide that others can participate in it. So if you write that you would love for others to chime in then you can outline the process anyway you like and then you do not have to limit yourself to one deck per week. Plus you can change your mind and be spontaneous with your deck explorations too @Arania Just a suggestion!

I do have a journal, but it is more difficult to organize. I would have to start indexing which I don't know is a good idea for a journal - and my peace of mind hehe. I'll see how it goes.
