Barleywine Posted March 10, 2020 Posted March 10, 2020 I recently had a request to do a paid reading covering a two-year period. I was tempted but decided that circumstances (especially those involving relationship matters) can shift so dramatically over that long a time that the amount of generalization required of such a reading could render it fairly useless to the client. I have a couple of spreads I created based on the pagan "Wheel of the Year" model but don't have enough confidence in them to offer them professionally. I'm going to tackle creating a new spread for this purpose, but in the meantime I was wondering how other pro readers deal with such long-range forecasts.
PathWalker Posted March 11, 2020 Posted March 11, 2020 I've been doing a year ahead reading for a client for a few years now. It's done by email. When he first asked I did explain that the further ahead we looked the more chance there was of change occurring, but he seems to enjoy it and comes back each year. He's not big on feedback though, and I don't know how seriously he views it - but he pays every year
Barleywine Posted March 11, 2020 Author Posted March 11, 2020 I've been thinking of stretching the Celtic Cross to a year's duration, although I've customarily been holding it to 3-to-6 months; maybe I will formally adopt the three-card outcome position that I sometimes use for uncertain outcomes. But I also just created a special two-part spread that will go out to three years and will post it in the Spreads section.
PathWalker Posted March 11, 2020 Posted March 11, 2020 I used a 13 card 'clock' spread - probably pinched long ago from someone on AT (thank you whoever it was) 1 card for each coming month and a centre card for the general overview of the year. But I don't get sufficient feedback to know how well it might be working at the end.
Little Fang Posted March 11, 2020 Posted March 11, 2020 I've done yearly energetic forecasts, but nothing so set in stone as huge predictions. I tend to limit myself to 3 months, and even then I warn them that free-will can alter things. Two years though? Yikes!
Barleywine Posted March 13, 2020 Author Posted March 13, 2020 As an experiment, I performed a three-year forecast on myself using my new spread, which focuses on four areas of life: relationships, career/enterprise; finances/mundane affairs; and health & happiness, in two phases, a broad view to highlight the area of most likely activity and a more specific outlook once that has been identified. It's too early to tell whether it has any merit, but the template seems sound. I'm not posting this in Tarot Readings since I'm not looking for input, just showing an example of my thought processes. https://parsifalswheeldivination.com/2020/03/13/a-time-passages-long-range-example-reading/
Guest Posted March 13, 2020 Posted March 13, 2020 Over time, I have found that my card readings cover shorter periods. Whereas a GT might have covered events between 6 to 12 months in the early 1990s, 90 % now play out between 4 - 12 weeks. The pace of life has changed; cards reflect life and thus mirror the pace. I use the card the significator faces to indicate time based on season. Thus a twelve month max is observed. If clients desire a longer time frame I use either palmistry (face-to-face), or birth chart (if time is known). Both can give long term forecasts. For the latter releasing from the hyleg is particularly good for long term predication. For relationships you can profect from the lot of marriage, too.

I also prefer astrology for long-range forecasts, which is what I told my prospective client, but I'm rusty on predictive techniques, having spent most of the last few years doing horary charts for lost items and missing people.
