Client Confidentiality

We all know that this is one of the central ethical tenets of Tarot reading. I mean, would you ask a neighbor to read for you if she's one of the best in the state, yes, but your whole town's going to be abuzz with your deepest secrets before sundown?

For you tho, is this 100% sacrosanct, never to be violated under any circumstance at all? Or do you think there are a few situations which would warrant breaking your silence? Which would these be? Have you yourself divulged the contents of a reading to another party without the querent's express permission? Why?

By the way, to the lawyers here, would violating client confidentiality have legal repercussions? Also, do you guys have a clause regarding this in your website (if you read online) or ads or what?

For me, I adhere to this very strongly, except for three things: if a life's at stake, if non-disclosure would make me an accessory to a crime, or if it would totally turn the life of a loved one upside down. Otherwise, mum's the word.

Pretty much what you said; life, major crime, causing major issue for a loved one of mine. Otherwise, I'm going to keep everything confidential. I have posted a few readings in this and the AT Forums, that I've done for other people, but with their permission. The thing is, if you start spreading things around that you get from readings (especially if you specify who the reading was for), you're opening yourself up to lawsuits if it damages their "reputation" or such.

I became an ordained minister (Church of the Seven Planes) in order to give my querents certain protections under the law. I can't be forced to reveal things learned during readings as they're protected by confessor/penitent privilege. This is very important in my work setting as the police department I work for can't legally force me to reveal things I've learned during a reading.

If I've done particularly draining readings I will debrief with my partner, I won't share who the reading was for and I hope that the sanctity of our marriage counts for something legally!

These days I am working with telephone clients so the anonymity is great, I also find telephone clients open up very quickly (this may be because they are paying by the minute as well as the extra layer of anonymity).  If I knew a reader would spread my reading around town I would certainly NOT go there for a reading.

Interesting topic, thankyou for bringing it up.

If I read for someone and then the person they were involved with sits down with me, I may use the previous reading for insight into the current Querent. But I am very careful not to discuss the previous reading until they are asking the question that the previous reading may answer.

I would only violate confidentiality in the case of major, non-consensual crimes. I think we were talking about this in another thread recently? Non-consensual sex crimes, murder, stalking, that kind of thing.
