I just got a mini version of a deck that I love. It's adorable and I think I'm going to have fun having it handy. But it didn't come with a LWB. The full size version has a book, not a LWB, and the meanings of some cards deviate slightly from traditional RWS. I'm not used to the deck enough yet to read reliably without the reference, so I was going to make my own LWB to go with the mini deck. I think it seems pretty straightforward-- include whatever notes I think I need, in as small a format as possible-- but I thought before I did, I would ask here if anyone else has printed their own "cheat sheet." Was there anything you didn't include you wish you had, or information you added that you could have done without?

Obviously this isn't a big crucial deal; I just need a crib notes version of the meanings. But any advice that would help me optimize its helpfulness the first time would be welcome! 🙂

I've done things like that.
I don't follow the LWB format that includes spreads, etc., and I don't make notes for cards I already have down pat.
I only include essences, possible keywords and combined meanings, the bare bones.
But this depends on what you're trying to do. If, for example, you read with elemental dignities and the deck follows correspondences you're not used to, you want to note that.
The cool thing about all this is that once you've made the cheat sheet, chances are you'll remember that stuff and won't even have to use it.

Thank you for the advice! Yes, I figured by the time I get done typing it out, I'll have learned those cards that deviate. 😄  My memory is awful, though, so I figure it still won't hurt to have a reminder around!

Reminders are also good if you stop using a deck for a good while and decide to pick it up again. 😉

Which I do all the time. I think I just move from shiny thing to shiny thing. 🙂

I have done that, especially for a couple of oracle decks that I were studying more in depth. Like the animal spirit deck and Pythia botanica. I wanted to be able to write down my thoughts as I was working with the deck but also document facts about those plants and animals that I’ve found through research.

I like to use those small notebooks for that:

Oh, I like that. I've got tarot notebooks, but none that are dedicated to a single deck...but now I'm wondering if I could find a little tiny one close to the same size as my mini deck...or I suppose I could get one of those miniature composition books and cut it down. Hm. I need to explore some possibilities. Thank you!

I've seen several people on youtube make their own notebooks and it looks so nice. If you are crafty and have some supplies to work with then that might be a really fun project!

Don't make any folded one so thick that it can't fold properly. The Queen Alice deck comes with a pdf one that you can print off and cut to size, and then put together with a ribbon. It would be fine - but with 160 pages (I think it was ) there is no chance it will stay flat.

It's actually very simple to make little  journals. A leather cover is too thick for what we're talking about, but it's easy to find something thinner, or just skip making a cover to begin with.

There is a booklet mode in Word, and presumably other word processing packages, and there are plenty of tutorials online. E.g. https://www.howtogeek.com/howto/32759/how-to-create-booklets-in-word/

If you intend to type up your notes and print them out in a LWB-sized format, you might find this useful. It always helps to be able to see the words on the page so you know if you need to cut some things out (or reduce the font size) to make everything fit.

Ah, thank you all for the great information! I was thinking this was going to be tedious, but I'm kind of looking forward to it now. 🙂

I have a lot of notebooks i have done over the years studying meanings of the cards.. recently I was inspired by the 2 nd edition of the 5 cent tarot and have decided to try and boil down each card to 1 major up right and reversed meaning + 2 extra minor words each and thus to try capturing the essence of the card to me.. it is very challenging because of how limited I am so i have to think of every word+ i try so that none of the words repeat themselves since I am looking for the unique essence of each card.. i have started with me minors, later after revising will move to majots.. this seemingly easy yask takes a LOT of time but to me is also really fun and teaching...

Coming up with just a handful of descriptors with no repetition does sound like a challenge! But also like the sort of thing I want for this mini deck. 🙂
