questions about getting a professional reading

I'm off of work next week and I'm thinking about getting a reading from a professional reader, which I've never done before. I've been having issues with being angry and I'd love to get some insight into what's going on and what I can do about it.

First off, if anyone can recommend someone in the San Francisco Bay Area - preferably the north bay - let me know. I'd also be down with doing a day trip to San Francisco.

Any ideas on how to find someone and what the cost might be? I've been looking online and, despite typing in tarot, I keep getting astrology which isn't my thing. I imagine there's cross over, but if I'm going to do this, I specifically want a tarot reading. Google and Yelp are also resulting in many unflattering picutres of the readers and I'm not sure I can push past the idea of actually booking an appointment with someone who won't find a flattering picture to promote their business.

Am I being unreasonable about the picture thing? I have the same issue with authors on Amazon who put up crap pictures for their author bio.

Thanks for any suggestions or recomendation for how to go about this.

I should have said - cost isn't a major consideration, but I don't know what's reasonable. I'd rather pay $100 and get an amazing reading than pay $50 and get an okay one.

I have a fantastic reader that I've gone to for 15+ years and have recommended wholeheartedly to many friends. She also can work remotely, in that you pay a flat fee and she calls you and records your session.

But: she works with guides.

You're not limited by geography. A lot of us read via telephone, skype, email, etc.

Look up metaphysical shops or bookstores in the area.  They usually have several readers there each day.

So, have you found a Tarot reader locally to try? I'm sure many of us would like to hear about your experience ... well, I would anyway. ;D

I agree on the picture thing. I post myself on an on-line directory site and I see it there too. I can't imagine these people getting good gigs when they don't PRESENT themselves well.

As for finding a good reader, ask friends if and who they go to. That is the best way to find a good--reliable--reader. And Don't try to be cheap, the best are expensive and for a reason.

When I was poking around online, I came across a website called thumbtack and filled out their questionare to get an idea of price. I got an email (through their system) from a lady in my area. I went to her website and read some reviews and decided to go for it. She also had a nice, friendly picture.

She put me completely at ease which was great because I was a little nervous. Before wee started, she offered to record the session and email it to me after. She also said I could take pictures of the spread at the end. I noticed how her cards were looking a little worn around the edges and I liked that they had seen so much action and provided so much advice. I thought it was fascinating that she used a combination of tarot decks and oracle cards, That completely exploded the posibilities for the reading.

I managed to pull both The Tower and Death, so I know the situation is coming to a head and major change is on it's way. But I feel better prepared to handle it when it happens. And I got the ace of pentacles for the likely outcome, so things will get better.

I've done a reading since for myself with more than one deck and it was amazing. I couldn't find many multi-deck spreads online, so I'll need to play around with it and come up with some of my own.

All in all, it was time and money well spent - $100 per hour, it anyone is curious. And I'm really glad I had the experience of doing it in person. It's not the kind of thing I can afford to splurge on all the time, but I'd go back to her if I need the kind of insight I can't glean for myself.

I've never had a paid pro reading done so I was curious about this. I'm glad it turned out well for you, Petalene.

Sounds like a very positive experience! Also a helpful reading from the sounds of it. Thank you for sharing!
